Flashback 19
This chapter will be about Mitch in rehab!
I feel like I didn't write enough for that part of the story so...
Here you go!!!
ENJOY THE STORY, MY LOVES!
Mitch hated rehab.
So much.
He would rather overdose on heroin than spend another hour with a therapist that didn't even care about him. Why are there even therapists in the first place?
Mitch will never understand.
"Hey, new kid!"
Mitch rolled his eyes, shivering intensely even though he was in the Texan heat. He just wanted to wear a sweater so he wouldn't feel cold anymore.
"You're withdrawing. You'll get used to it," the voice spoke up again, smirking at Mitch suggestively. Mitch scoffed and turned around, taking deep breaths in hopes to take his focus away from withdrawing. "My name is Micah. I've been here five years for stealing pills and getting getting high off of them."
"Good for you," Mitch mumbled, even though he quite intrigued in what the person had to say. Mitch turned over to the person, his eyebrow raised in curiosity. "You took pills and that's why you're here?"
"Indeed. What did you do?"
Mitch looked down at his lap, taking a deep breath before looking at Micah again. Instead of feeling ashamed like he always did for revealing what he did, he felt proud of himself.
He felt like what he did was right.
"I did heroin, cocaine, and majijuana. Get on my level," Mitch spoke in a confident voice, winking as the shivering went away. Micah widened his eyes, nodding as he smirked some more.
"Impressive. Anyway, a few friends and I are sneaking out at midnight to take our nighttime pills with some other pills I stole befure coming here. It works every time."
Mitch nodded, ignoring the voice of reason in his head. He wanted to be crazy and live the life he wanted to live, even in that included ruining it even more.
"I'll be there, midnight on the dot."
And sure enough, Mitch 'went to sleep' and opened his eyes the second the nighttime nurse closed the door. He was shaking now and felt very hot, fanning himself as he opened the window.
Am I really withdrawing?! At nighttime?!
Mitch rolled his eyes, making sure his pills were in his pockets before sneaking out of his room. Micah and two more people stood by, all of then laughing quietly as Mitch jumped down and stumbled a bit. Micah shook his head and wrapped an arm around Mitch, smiling suggestively once again.
"I knew you had it in you. You just got to prove people wro-"
At that moment, a flashlight shined on the teenagers and Mitch felt himself panic, widening his eyes as the owner of the rehab walked up to them.
"Why are you teenagers out this late?!"
Befure Mitch could open his mouth, Micah spoke for him.
"This boy here had a bottle of pills he stole before he came here and he was going to get high off of them. My fiends and I were persistent, but he refused to listen. Thank God you're here."
Mitch dropped his jaw and was about to intervene when a security officer came up and practically twisted Mitch's arm, making Mitch scream in pain. The boss shook her head, glaring at Mitch before looking back at the officer.
"Take him to isolation. He's going to be in there for the rest of the night."
"Yes, ma'am."
Mitch didn't fight back, but his heart dropped at the sound of isolation.
What is that?
What is going to happen to me?
~~~
Isolation.
The scariest moment any patient in rehab has to face.
And Mitch has been in there too many times, counting today.
Today started off fine, just like any other day. That is, until Micah tried to make Mitch take pills to get him high again. The end result of Mitch screaming at Micah on the top of his lungs and eventually punching the other boy in the face ended him in isolation.
And he hated it.
"Olusola, Mitchell. Six hours in isolation. Screamed at and punched another kid."
"Got it," a female security guard commented, writing something down before looking at Mitch disappointingly. "This is your tenth week of being in isolation and you've only been here for three of those. Mitchell, you need to stop."
"I'm sorry."
"Sorry's not going to cut it, hon. Go into the room and let the nurse lead you to the room."
Mitch nodded, trying his hardest not to cry when the familiar loud noise of the beep intruded his hearing, making him jump as he was lead inside. Once there, another nurse offered him clothes made only to wear in isolation.
And he hated it.
"Proceed, Mitchell."
Mitch obeyed, trying his best to hide himself so no one would make any comments about him or his body. He was still bony and lithe and he despised it.
"Done."
"Okay. Go to the room, Mitchell. Your six hours will start once you enter. They will start again if you try to escape or talk loudly. You may not talk to any family members or friends in isolation or your time will start again. Are we clear?"
"Yes, sir."
"Good. Enter the room."
Mitch did so, laying on the rough bed before he closed his eyes. He could sleep away his time so it could end faster.
So he could be away from isolation.
"Poppy, I missed you!"
"Baby boy," Avi exclaimed, smiling when Mitch wrapped his tiny arms around Avi's neck. "How did you like kindergarten?"
"I liked it! We had snacks and I made a best friend! His name is Mario, but he does not have a brother called Luigi. My teacher is very nice and pretty and she read us a story and told us about her puppy and-"
Mitch took a deep breath, making Avi laugh as he shook his head lovingly. Avi loved this kid more than anything in this lifetime.
"Calm down, baby boy. I missed you."
"I missed you too," Mitch murmured, closing his eyes as sleep started to take over his body. "Poppy, I'm tired.coukd we go home?"
"Of course, baby boy."
As Avi walked over to the car, Mitch spoke up once more, managing to get a tear in Avi's eye.
"I did it, Poppy. I'm not scared anymore."
"Yeah, yeah you did, baby boy. And because of that, you could do anything you want if you set your mind to it. I believe in you."
"I love you, Poppy."
"I love you, baby boy."
And off they went.
"Isolation is over. Please remo-"
Mitch did as he was told, tears streaming down his face as he put on his regular clothes and ran down the hall to call Avi.
"Walk!"
Mitch called Avi quickly, praying to God that his Poppy would pick up. He wanted him more than anything.
"You reached the message box for Avi Olusola. I'm not here right now. Leave a message and I'll-"
Mitch hung up and screamed, bursting into tears as he slid down the wall, shaking his head as he thought of one thing.
I can't do it.
~~~
Avi hummed to himself, checking his phone once he got home only to have his heart drop.
Ten missed calls from Baby Boy
Avi shook his head, breathing heavily as he clicked on the first voice mail.
"Hello, Avi? This is Mitch's therapist. Mitch had a breakdown and we're trying to calm him down, but it's very bad. Call when you can."
Shaky breath. Second voice message.
"He threw up, Avi. I'm with him and-oh, Mitch, hold on. Poor baby. Please call."
Sob. Third.
"He won't stop throwing up, Avi. He's about to faint. He's hyperventilating. Please call back immediately."
Another sob, shaky breath. Fourth.
"He's wondering why you aren't crying. He's in his room no-hold on, Mitch. Let me get a bucket."
A shake from the head. Fifth.
"He's saying he wants his Poppy. Who's Poppy? Is that you?"
A shaky 'yes'. Sixth.
"He's screaming now. His face is red and he won't speak. I'm trying to calm him down, but he won't listen. Please call."
A quiet 'no', sob. Seventh.
"He's panicking even worse than before. I called a nurse to give him a sedative. Hopefully that will calm him down."
Loud sobs, more shaky breaths. Eighth.
"He's fighting, Avi. He's trying to punch the nurse because of the sedative. Something about a Sco-Mitch, calm down! Honey, it's okay!"
Quiet sobs, loud 'no'. Nineth.
"We have nurses straddling him and he's getting the shot right now. He's still fighting, Avi. He's so strong."
A weak smile, blurred vision. Tenth.
"He's asleep now. Please call him once he wakes up. He needs it. I apologize for what you had to hear."
Avi heard it all.
From Mitch screaming 'Poppy' to the sounds of throwing up, Avi wanted nothing more than to scoop Mitch in his arms and hold him until he got better.
Avi can't do that though because he wants what's best for Mitch, even if that includes being separated from him for the longest time.
*Ring, ring*
Avi checked it and smiled, crying loudly before answering.
It was his baby boy.
"Mitch?! Baby boy?!"
"Poppy?"
"It's me, Mitchy. It's Poppy. I'm back."
Mitch sobbed quietly as Avi waited patiently, feeling his heart break into two as the sobs from his son echoed in his mind. He hated hearing Mitch cry.
No amount of the pain in the world could even compete between the pain Avi feels when Mitch cries.
"I-I tho-thought you di-didn't wa-wa-want to talk to me. I tho-thought you di-didn't love me an-any-anymore."
"Oh, baby boy," Avi murmured, tears in his eyes as he shook his head. "I will never stop loving you. You are the last person I would stop loving. All my love goes towards you, Mitchy."
It was suddenly quiet besides the sounds of Mitch breathing heavily, striking fear in Avi as this happened for another two minutes. Avi was about to ask Mitch if he was okay when Avi finally got a response.
One that broke his heart.
"I can't do it, Poppy. I want to go home and I never want to get better. I hate it. Take me home. Please."
"I'm sorry, Mitch. I can't do that. I'm so-"
"Wait, no. Let me talk to my PO-NO, GIVE IT BACK! I'M TALKING TO HIM! GUESS IT BA-"
The dial tone was loud, but it wasn't as loud as Avi's heart breaking.
"Avi? Are you okay?"
Avi shook his head as he threw himself in Kevin's arms, crying loudly as he prayed for one thing.
Mitch's health.
A/N: This was a roller coaster, lol. We are, unfortunately, reaching the end to this lovely story and even though I'm sad about that , I still have other books to write and I'm excited! Anyways, I hope that you all enjoyed this chapter and remember that I love you all.:)
