Flashback 10

Sooo...

I hope you guys don't mind...

This flashback will not be in the same time as Mitch's post-stabbjng.

It will be him as a little child!

It will give you a little background of his life!

AND

It will also show why Avi and Mitch are super duper close!

Soo...

ONTO THE STORY!

P.S: I miss my dogs.:(

P.P.S: Mitch is 3, 4, and 5 in this chapter.^-^

Age Three

Mitch moved into the Olusola household no longer than a week ago and he couldn't be anymore happy. His 'Poppy and Daddy' gave him whatever they could, but the truth is that Avi and Kevin are buying Mitch everything they can...

With the very little money they have.

Avi makes less than eight hundred dollars per month while Kevin makes about the same amount. It might seem a lot, but when you have to put for your house, utilities, food, bills, and now have a little kid in your house?

That takes away more than half of your paycheck.

But Avi and Kevin don't mind.

Mitch is greater than all the money and luxuries in the world and they would do and try anything to make their baby happy. It just breaks their hearts that they can't do everything for Mitch.

Especially the fact that they can't stay with him all day.

"Esther, are you sure you have everything?" Avi asked silently, looking into the living room. Mitch was sitting on the couch, giggling on whatever was on the television. "I juts don't want to leave him."

"I know, hon," Esther murmured sadly, patting Avi's shoulder. Kevin walked out of the kitchen, frowning at his son as he prepared for the inevitable: work. "If something happens, I'll tell you. He'll be fine. He knows his daddies will come back."

Avi nodded and was about to say something when the television was turned off, making his heart skip as he widened his eyes. Kevin turned around to see Mitch looking up at his dads, confusion in his face as he looked at his aunt. Avi took himself out of it, smiling at Mitch softly before putting an arm around Esther's shoulders.

"Mitch, this is-"

"Is it a adoption lady?" Mitch asked quietly, holding onto his teddy bear tightly. "Am I going back? I'm sorry that I don't talk a lot."

Avi dropped his jaw, tears gathering in his eyes as he looked over at Kevin and Esther. They were both in shock, wondering why a three year old would even think like that. Esther cleared her throat and walked over to the boy, her chest aching as Mitch walked back a couple inches and let a whimper. Mitch sniffed, sobbing quietly as he shook his head.

"Please don't take me back. I promise I'll talk more."

"Oh, honey," Esther cooed, shaking her head. "I'm not here to take you back. I'm your aunt."

Mitch looked at Esther carefully, sniffling once more before talking again.

"You don't look like an ant."

Esther, Kevin, and Avi all laughed until Esther spoke again, smiling softly at Mitch.

"I really don't, uh? I'm Avi's sister and that will make me your aunt with a u! An ant is a bug that likes to pick up food and give the food to their families. Well, I guess ants and aunts happen to be the same after all. Anyway, you are my nephew. That means you are Avi's child and since Avi is my brother, you are my nephew. Does that make sense?"

"Kind of. My head hurts. I need ibupuffin."

"It's ibuprofen, silly," Kevin pointed out, looking at his watch to sigh sadly. "Hey, Mitchy? Poppy and I have to.go somewhere."

Mitch frowned, hugging his teddy bear tightly before talking again.

"Don't leave me. I promise I'll talk more."

"Oh, baby," Avi murmured sadly, shaking his head as Esther ran into the kitchen to make Mitch something. "We aren't  leaving you like that. Daddy and I have to go to work so we could be food and do fun stuff with you. And don't worry about not talking. I don't talk a lot either."

"Otay," Mitch murmured before looking at his daddies with big eyes. "Why do you have to leave?"

"We have to work, baby."

"Why?"

"So we could have the stuff we need to eat and have fun and wear and stuff."

"Oh, otay," Mitch mumbled, walking over to his daddies to give them a hug. "Promise me you'll never leave me anywhere at a place but myself. That scares me."

"We'll try to, baby. When you're older, you have to go to school for a long time and we won't be with you."

Mitch frowned before smiling, holding onto his teddy bear tightly.

"That's otay. You won't be there, but your love will."

Age four

"Kevin, why are we doing this?"

"It's fun, Avi! We need to honestly around with him sometimes."

Avi frowned as Kevin wrapped the toilet paper roll in Spirited Away wrapping paper, shaking his head as his husband put the finished touches on it. Avi looked over at Mitch, smiling when he heard the little voice sing along to a Christmas song.

"You sound amazing, Mitchy!"

Mitch stopped singing right away, blushing as he ran upstairs. Avi frowned, wishing his son could have all the confidence in the world even though he did not want him to be arrogant or mean. He wanted Mitch to be confident yet humble.

Will Mitch ever break out of his shell and singing in front of thousands instead of hiding behind the fireplace while singing?

Avi wished he knew.

"And done," Kevin exclaimed, smiling happily. The toilet paper was wrapped elegantly, breaking Avi's heart one second at a time. "Let's just hope he won't throw a fit."

"Or make him think it's Pokémon related," Avi murmured sadly, making Kevin frown too. "I just want to buy him all this stuff, but I can't. He deserves more, Kev. He really does. It breaks my heart."

"I know, Av. One day there will be a day when he will be able to buy all the stuff he wants and we will watch him the entire time and be happy, even if we believe he doesn't need it. Now, enough serious talk. Let's get this show on the road and see how Mitch likes his gift."

Avi shook his head, praying to himself that that Mitch will think it's just a joke and not his real present.

Christmas Eve

"Hey, Mitchy! Santa said that you could open one present before tomorrow," Kevin yelled upstairs, smiling when he heard Mitch gasp. "Come on down, baby boy!"

"Coming," Mitch called back, giggling as ran down in his onesie. He jumped and landed in Kevin's arms, giggling as Kevin walked him over to the tree. "What is it, Daddy?! Is it fun?!"

"You could say that," Kevin laughed, setting his small son down. Avi was frowning, sighing as he looked over at Kevin. "What's the matter?"

"I still think it's wrong, Kev. It took him more than a year to trust us. I really don't want to lose that."

"It'll be okay, Av. He won't," Kevin reassured before smiling at his son. "Okay, Mitch. See the present with the Spirited Away paper? That's all yours."

"Yay," Mitch exclaimed, running over to his parents before opening the present. "Thank you, thank you, thank you! May I open it now?"

"Hold on, baby boy," Kevin replied, turning on the video camera. Avi shook his head, feeling his heart ache more. "Annnndddd...go!"

Mitch did as he was told, ripping the paper as carefully as he could. As he saw what he had got, he widened his eyes...

And smiled.

"It's toilet paper! It's toilet paper," Mitch yelled happily, giggling as he hugged it. Kevin laughed loudly and Avi couldn't help but chuckle himself. "We could use in the bathroom!"

"But it's yours, baby boy! You don't need to share."

"Sharing is caring though," Mitch spoke up, thinking about his next words. "Unless if a certain kind of sharing is bad for you and your tummy. Thank you though! It's so soft and fluffly, like a kitty cat! Thank you!"

"You're welcome, baby," Kevin called out at Mitch ran upstairs. Kevin looked over at Avi, smiling playfully. "Now what did I tell you?! He loved it!"

Avi nodded, smiling as he thought about the little boy that turned his life for the better.

My baby boy.

~~~
Age five (homophobia warning)
Avi drove up to the school only to have Mitch jump in the car and 'slam' the door angrily. Avi frowned, leaning over his seat to buckle Mitch's carseat.
"What's the matter, kiddo?"
"Nothing."
Avi flinched a bit at Mitch's attitude, frowning as he wondered what happened to his baby boy. He looked back a couple times (more like fifty) to see the same 'glare' in his son's eyes and it made him more sad than he already was.
What to do to make Mitchy happy?
Oh!
Cold Stone!
Mitch loves Cold Stone!
Avi drove over to the little ice cream shop, putting an adorable yet confused look on Mitch's face. Avi got out of the car and unbuckled Mitch's seatbelt, smiling softly at his son.
"You look like you were having a bad day so I thought you would have loved to have some ice cream!"
Mitch nodded, putting his arms around Avi's neck as he was unbuckled out of his seatbelt. All was okay until Mitch saw a big sign, his heart breaking immediately.
MOTHER'S DAY IS COMING UP!
Come buy an ice cream cake for your mom and make her day!
Mitch instantly broke down in tears, causing Avi to frown and hold onto his son carefully, his heart breaking at the sounds coming out of his son's mouth. Everyone who walked past looked at the crying boy, wondering what going on. A little boy who just happened to be in Mitch's class tugged on his mom's skirt, frowning at the sight.
"Mommy, that's the boy with two daddies."
"Be quiet, John! Be nice, even if his daddies aren't good people. That poor boy. He must be so confused."
"Why, Mommy?"
"Because only mommies and daddies should have children. Daddies and daddies and mommies and mommies don't deserve them. They're freaks of nature."
Avi dropped his jaw, holding onto Mitch more as a bodyshaking sob racked through him. Avi kissed Mitch's head and walked into Cold Stone, shushing his crying child as he walked up to the ice cream station. The employee smiled then frowned when she looked at the boy, looking at Avi for the orders.
"Um, one vanilla ice cream in a cup and one half-baked in a a kiddy cone please. Could you, um, put sprinkles on the half-baked please?"
"Yep!"
After paying for the ice cream and hearing a song from the employees because of giving them a tip, Avi managed to calm Mitch down a bit. He ate from his ice cream as Mitch licked his ice cream.with tears in his eyes. Avi frowned as he touched Mitch's hand, getting his son's attention right away.
"What's the matter, baby boy? What made you upset?"
"My teachers and kids in class," Mitch replied softly, wiping his eyes as he ignored his ice cream. "We were making Mommy Day's cards and I made one for you and Daddy but put Daddies Day instead and my teacher got mad at me. She-she ripped my card and made me sit in time-out until lunch time. Everyone instead Mario made fun of me for not  having a mommy."
"Oh, my baby boy," Avi murmured, hugging Mitch as the little boy started to cry some more. "I'm sorry, honey. I'll call the school."
"Poppy, why can kids have mommies and daddies, but I can't have a poppy and daddy? It's not fair."
"I know, baby. One day though there will be a day when little kids like you could have poppies and daddies and two mommies. It'll take some time though and when it happens, I'll be the happiest man ever."
"Me too," Mitch smiled, licking his ice cream before thinking of another. "Poppy, would you still love me if I marry a man? The boys in my class are cuter than the girls."
"Of course I will, baby boy. I love more than I did yesterday. You marry whoever you want and I will be there every step of the way."
And from that moment on, Avi and Mitch had the greatest father/son relationship known to humankind.
And they cannot be anymore grateful for that fact.
