Chapter one: Second Day
CHRISTINA'S POV
Second day of junior year. Ugh, first day "jitters" are gone and now it's just the pain of waking up at 5am to go get unimportant crap spammed into my brain for seven hours and then another two hours of homework afterwards. There's nothing really special to me. I'm just a normal sixteen year old girl who literally feels dead right now. Teeth brushed, hair done, clothes on, mascara? Why not. Eh, I'll skip breakfast I really don't want to be late, that would suck. Out the door one foot at a time. Head down, find a seat and let the bus driver take you to hell. Yup, that's what my life is. Here comes Angie.
ANGELICA LYNN REGLER- We've been best friends since maybe fourth grade. She's not too tall but not short. She's got dark black curly hair that flows down to her tailbone. She's not too popular but she's got enough friends, and let me tell you this girl is SMART. I'm talking could go to Harvard because she's got all she needs to know. She's got tanned skin that i'm not sure how she got so perfect since she hates spray on tanning, and has amazing bright blue eyes. She always wears the same black high top converse and today she's wearing jean shorts with a light pink top and a leather jacket. Oh, and surprisingly today her hair is tied up into a ponytail with a bow tied into it. She's got a perfect body structure too, we all used to say she'd be a great model, but she doesn't like that kind of stuff. Sometimes I feel so, regular when I'm with her. I don't seem very special at all. Medium length dark brown hair that I rarely ever put up, to go along with my bland, brown eyes, and freckles scattered mostly across my face. I'm about the same height as Angie, maybe a little shorter and today I'm wearing a jean skirt with a light baby blue top, my blue flip flops, and a few bracelets and anklets along with my hoop earrings. Sounds pretty normal, right? Philip claims I could be a model too, but I never believe him.
Angie sat down next to me and it was early so we both just sat there listening to our own music until the bus arrived. I almost groaned as I remembered my first class was history and I was probably going to fall asleep. I walked to my first class after stopping and getting my books from my locker and silently dreaded the fact that I left my hoodie in my locker. I was always cold in this school. It sort of creeped me out too. Stepping into the classroom, my mood went from a negative eight to ten in a second. Nix was sitting with an open seat next to him.
NIX LENARD- I started liking him about a year ago. He doesn't really notice me, but seriously everyone knows him. He's not exactly what you would call "ugly" either. He's also star of the baseball team, but whatever.
I went over and sat down next to him. He wasn't the smartest, so maybe I'd seem smarter next to him? Glancing at him my heart dropped noticing he hadn't even glanced at me. Oh well, guess now I should move on. The teacher walked in a got ready to start the class, I'm not sure how much I remembered though. I sort of just zoned out after "ok class, time to-" not sure what else was said. The bell rang breaking me from my trance and I went to head to art class, one of my personal favorites, that I also happened to share with Philip.
PHILIP JOSEPH SANDERS- He and I met freshman year. We've gotten really close over the summer, but it's not like that. We're just best friends. Philip is tall, he's not like a giant, but he's a good foot taller than me. He's got a great jawline, and is lean with a great smile and medium about down to the shoulder length curly brown hair. I'm not going to lie, Philip is pretty good looking, and he's got half the girls at school going after him, but I don't care, like I said, were just friends.
He beamed as he saw me speed walking over to him. "Hey Chris!" I rolled my eyes.
My real name is Christina Audrey Nickelson and most people call me Christina and if anyone other than Philip calls me "Chris" I won't allow it, and once in a while either my big brother or Angie will call me Audrey but it's usually just Christina.
I reached my destination and looked up smiling at Philip. "Hey" he smiled his usual toothy grin back at me. We sat down and got ready to start the class. I got a few sideways glares from Jenny, one of the "popular" girls, probably because I was talking to Philip, but I honestly couldn't care less. It's not like Philip was the sporty type, and he wasn't popular, he was just good looking. He was definitely more of the music and arts type, which is one reason we're friends.
Art was fun. We didn't get to start much but I did draw on the side of my paper a little bit, which caused Philip to make fun of my "messiness." The bell rang, sounding like a death wish, for the second time today. I said my goodbyes to Philip and we promised to meet up again at his locker before lunch.
My next class was math, then English, lunch, science, music, then gym. I got this. Sadly math was alone, but English I shared with my three other best friends- Jordan, Ray, and Poppy.
JORDAN DELGER- He's been one of the only people I've stayed close to since first grade. And he totally has it bad for Angie. But I'm sworn to secrecy. He's about 5'9 and he's a Latino with short black hair and he loves his red sneakers. He often wears a letterman jacket even though he doesn't do any sports, probably because Angie likes it and she thinks it's funny when he wears it.
Ray Boyer- I met him freshman year too. Totally no romantic interest in him at all, especially because I'm pretty sure he's gay. He's the kind of guy to help me figure out what to wear and he's always happy to go to the mall with me. He's great. He's tall, I mean tall. He's Filipino, and wears a red jacket most of the time.
Poppy Hallaway- I met her in eighth grade. She was new and didn't have many friends so I went to talk to her. Poppy is pretty much how you would imagine a poppy. She's short with bright green eyes and short blonde hair that she has the bottom dyed a lavender purple. She always has on big fake eyelashes, but she can totally pull it off so kudos to her on that one. She also might have a thing for Philip but I don't really ship it. They just don't seem like a good couple. At least, not to me.
Math is literally my least favorite subject, but somehow I survived and now I can see my friends during English, so I walked a little bit faster to that class. I greeted the three of them and sat down, setting up my books so I at least looked a little smarter. Good news is lunch is next, so even though I'm not very hungry I get to see Philip again. Along with Angie, and I'll still be with Jordan, Poppy, and Ray. That's most of our friend group and I hang with them most of the time, but I've got a lot of friends that I'm not as close to as them. I'm also pretty close to Heather, but she goes to a catholic school, so none of my friends know her. I only know her so well because were neighbors. She has another house in Florida though that I went to on vacation with her for a week this summer though. Technically we cousin owns it but he's pretty chill with us vacationing there, as long as we stayed out of the basement, which I'm guessing is where he hangs out. Heather has long bleach, blonde hair with sky blue eyes. (Original, am I right?)
My thoughts were broken by, yup, that devilish bell ringing, only this time the ring wasn't as deadly since I was on my way to see my friends. I dropped my stuff in my locker, forgetting my sweatshirt for the second time today, and scurried off to Philip's locker. I noticed a second pair of feet at his locker and recognized them as Poppy's flats. My heart dropped a little for a reason I'm not sure so I ignored it and continued to walk towards my friends. "Hey guys, ready?" I asked trying to sound peppy.
Philip's expression seemed to light up a little at the sound of my voice and I took that as a little victory for I'm not sure what and I made small talk with Poppy while we waited for Philip. Poppy seemed a little down, but I decided I'd ask her later.
We arrived at the scene of the cafeteria, which felt more like a loud, busy, highway, and headed for our normal spot. We met Angie and Ray at the table.
"Where's Jordan?" Angie asked. I smirked causing Angie to blush bright red.
"Why? Are you desperate to find your booooyyyyfrieeennnndddd?" I continued to smirk as Angie's face brightened to the color of a tomato. Of course Jordan then took the absolute perfect moment to walk up.
"Ang, you alright?" He encouraged, worry laced in his voice, "you're bright red."
Angie grimaced and nodded as the rest of us tried to hold back giggles and Jordan looked around in confusion. We sat down once we had calmed ourselves and started some small talk.
"Chris, aren't you eating?" Philip seemed concerned.
"No way, I'm not eating school lunch," I answered his question as he then proceeded to hand me a pop tart and practically shove it down my throat. I glared at Philip as Ray laughed his ass off and I swallowed the rest of the dry pastry. We all continued to laugh and joke around until the death bell rang again and we said our goodbyes.
The rest of the day went by slow, but the good thing about this being the second day of school was, it was also a Friday, and my squad and I had all decided to meet up at Ray's house and spend the night.
