No no no. By the end of the game either Nix or Angie will be dead. I felt horrible, and even worse with the guilt that I was secretly voting for Angie to win.

Haha, oh silly me, I forgot a small bit. Each team will have a co-captain. At the end of the game, the captain will choose to let the co-captain win, or kill them instead. The co- captains will be Philip- for team blue, and Heather- for team red, have fun.

I let out a scream. If Nix lost, he could choose for Philip to die instead. The teams were decided.

I can't do this. How am I supposed to try to shoot the opposing team if it'll kill my best friend? It's not like I have a choice. I wonder if he's making Jordan watch us. Why Jordan? And did Jordan really choose Angie to be captain. Something weird is going on.

I heard a buzzer blares, and we had ten seconds to run. I was sprinting now, not knowing where I was going, but I had a gun full of paint, that would be destructive enough to kill someone. A blur of red flashed in front of me, and I pulled the trigger, firing rapidly, eyes closed, and stopped when I heard someone call out "Shit." Then pain zipped into my back, and having played paintball with my brother and Natalie, I knew I was shot, and would be out too. I felt guilt burn in my chest as I realized I'd hit Ray, who was now kneeling over, blood spitting out of his mouth, as he coughed on air. I ran over, apologizing profusely, and helped him up. He caught his breath, face pale, and I helped him back to the middle of the field, where the game had begun. For now, all we could do was wait, and see how the game played out. If I listened closely, I could hear guns going off every now and then. Right now, I was more worried about Ray, who was coughing up more blood. This is bad, he's really sick. I'd never seen Ray even be sick before, and I knew he was in bad condition now, worse than just a cold or something.

Slowly, both teams had members return. First was Lily, then Connor. I was worried. Everyone but Nix and Philip was back from my team. Heather was next, Jeremy following soon after, sprinting out of the wooded area, towards Ray, collecting him into a hug after sliding into him, not stopping his speed. Cute. Henry came back next. Angie, Philip, and Nix were the only ones left. I saw three people walk back from the woods, closed my eyes, and prayed, not really knowing what I wanted.

"I'm sorry," I heard Angie whisper, and turned around, opening my eyes. Ray went into another coughing fit again, and chaos broke loose. Both Nix and Philip had a bright red splotch of paint covering their torsos. Red team won.

I see our winning team has been declared. Now, time for the fun. Nix, would you like to do the honor of killing Philip, I promise it'll be fun?

I watched as Nix glanced over at Philip. His expression filled with anger. He didn't want to choose, but he knew he had to kill him. I knew too, I wasn't ever going to see Philip again. I felt time moving slower. Philip looked at me, and smiled. He smiled. Not his big toothy grin, but a smile. A smile as a promise, a smile of hope. A smile for me to move on, for me to know to keep fighting, and let go of him. I ran forward, and hugging him tight, loudly sobbing into his chest, not caring about how I sounded. I was saying goodbye, and then I had to let go, but I'd keep his smile with me. He'd always be helping me, just with that smile, that hope. I wasn't going to ever be the same, but I'd have to make it out for him, since he wasn't going to. I squeezed him tighter, one last time, then let go and backed up.

"I'm ready," both Philip and Nix spoke together.
