Chapter 6
The Pines family looked down at the ground, not saying a word. What was there to say? Today was sad enough that they had to leave, but now only Mabel can, leaving her brother.
"B- but Dipper has to come home!" Mabel cried out, "He has to go to school! And what will mom and dad think?!"
Stan slapped his forehead, "Oh geez, YOUR PARENTS! What are we supposed to tell them?!"
Ford scratched his chin, "We'll just tell them that Dipper accepted my apprenticeship and is staying here. He can go to school here in Gravity Falls."
"But then why can't I stay here?!" Mabel cried, "Why can't I stay here with Dipper?!"
"Sweetie," Ford said softly, "You're parents are already losing one of you, how do you think they would feel if they lost both?"
Mabel sniffed and wiped her nose, "B- but I want to stay with Dipper!"
Dipper stepped up, "Mabel, I'm really sorry! We didn't know this was going to happen! But we have to accept it and move on! Be strong, because mom and dad need you."
Mabel wiped away her tears and hugged her brother, "ok."
"And you can always see me again next summer." Dipper said with a smile.
Mabel smiled back at him, "Yeah. Yeah! I can see you next year."
The bus driver then came out and had an angry look on his face, "Hey, if you want to get home on time, we better start moving!"
"Just a minute!" Stan yelled, "Can't you see we're having a family moment?!"
The bus driver rolled his eyes and got back on the bus.
Dipper, Stan, and Ford gave Mabel a hug and said goodbye. Dipper and Mabel got on the bus and Dipper grabbed his stuff.
"I can't believe this is happening." Mabel said, rubbing Waddle's head.
Dipper grabbed his backpack and sighed, "I know, but there's nothing we can do about it. But you'll see me next summer, right?"
She nodded her head, "For sure."
Dipper got out of the bus and the door closed. They watched as the bus left with Mabel along with it. Dipper put his hand against the invisible wall, watching his sister leave and sighed, "Let's go."
They got into Stan's car and Dipper sat quietly in the back.
Stan and Ford were arguing about the situation, when suddenly Stan noticed the silence coming from Dipper.
"You alright kiddo?" he asked.
Dipper looked up and just nodded his head a little, "Mhm."
"I'm proud of you Dipper," Ford said, "I know this is hard for you and your sister, but I'm glad that you stepped up and accepted the situation."
Dipper sniffed and rubbed his red, wet eyes, "Yeah, I guess I did."
