I think they just might like him...

Song: Your the one by Kodaline

Not texting him back is killing me. I don't bother eating dinner and mom and my dad were not happy about that but I really don't care. I want to stay in my room for the rest if my life but for the second time my dad knocks on the door this time he opens it.

"You need to come eat," he says calmly with that more caring dad attitude and I know he just wants me to eat something before I start feeling really sick.

"Why?" I ask without looking up at him.

"Ophelia you know you need to eat a little something so you can take your meds or you will feel bad."

I roll my eyes under the blanket so he can't see me.

"Ophelia...come on get up."

I roll out of bed and walk behind him to the kitchen. I sit at the table and the whole time I play with my food with my fork.

"Can I at least text him to tell him I'm grounded."

They both look at each other and made some kind of agreement without saying a word. He hands me my phone. "Just to tell him and that's it...got it."

I try not to roll my eyes at that because I'm afraid that if I do he will take it back away.

Ophelia: I'm grounded! 2wks for leaving school.

Kodiak: You're kidding right!!!

Ophelia: I wish. So they will be taking me to school.

Kodiak: You can't be serious!!! This is my fault not yours.

My dad motions for the phone back. I text one more time.

Ophelia: And grounded from phone this is my last text. C U at school. Love you.

I'm about to hand over the phone when it dings so I hurry up and look at it.

Kodiak: Damn!!! This sucks. OK love you too.

I want to smile at that last part but I'm still too upset with my parent's decision. I mean really don't you think they are being a little bit too dramatic about this. I take a few bites of food and then request to go to bed. I don't bother doing my homework.

The next morning I get up and hurry up and get ready for school only because I want to get there to see him. I grab a fruit bar and head out the door and wait in the car for my mom. She on the other hand takes her time. When she comes out she looks at me. "Are you in that big of a hurry?"

"Yes...let's go." I look out the window the whole time. She turns up the radio and is trying to get me to sing along with her but I just have my mind on one thing and that is seeing him. When she pulls up I get out and don't bother saying bye when she does. Instead I slam the door and walk off. When I get into the school he is already there standing by out lockers.

"I'm sorry for getting you in trouble." He leans in to kiss me.

"You didn't...I'm the one who went it's not like you had me at gun point or anything." I smile at him and then open my locker to get my math book out.

"So two weeks...damn."

"I know right."

"Do you realize school will be out in two week?"

"No...haven't even thought about it but then we can see each other all summer long." I smile as he takes my hand to walk me to our first period class.

The morning goes by pretty fast and before I know it, its lunch time. We both go to the art room so that we can be alone.

"So how is that sculpture coming along that you have been working on?" I ask him as I sit down at the table.

"It's actually going to be in the art show this weekend...you should come see it."

"I'm grounded remember." I roll my eyes in frustration.

"Tell your parents you have to go for an art grade. They will take you. I really want you to see it."

"Do you now?" I smile and take the sandwich from my bag and start eating.

"Yes...I want you to see it."

"I will see if they will let me." I finish off the sandwich and the bag of chips. We have to hurry up or we will both be late to our next class and I can't have the school calling my parents saying that I was late...God forbid me being grounded longer.

After school he walks me to the car and my mom shakes her head. If she thinks for one minute that I am not going to talk to him she is crazy. They can ground me. They can take away my phone but not talking to him at all...I don't think so.

"So how was school?" she asks. I figured she would have asked about him but she doesn't.

"Fine." I look back out the window all the way home. We pull up and before I open the door she stops me.

"Ophelia, I know this is hard but what did you expect us to do? You can't just skip school whenever you feel like it."

"I know mom...you told me a hundred times...I know. By the way there is this art show...exhibit thing this weekend can I go...it's...it's for a grade for our art class."

"I will talk it over with your dad."

"It's for a grade mom. You really want me to get a zero...I mean really."

She rolls her eyes at me. "I will talk to your dad about it alright."

Of course dad says it's alright to go and of course they want to go now just too see what all is going on there. So I'm hoping no one says anything about it not being a graded thing. I don't tell them that Kodiak is going to be there either.

On Saturday we get to the school close to two o'clock. I don't see him but I know he is here somewhere. We walk around looking at all the projects. Some are really good and you can tell that they spent a lot of time on it. I feel someone come up behind me and take my hand. When I turn he is staring right at me with a huge grin. Both my parents look at each other and then give me a look at the same time.

"What?"

"Ophelia...you are grounded from seeing Kodiak at the moment."

"Mom I can't help if he is here...now can I?"

He lets go of my hand and I grab it back. "So where's your sculpture?"

"It's over here." He pulls me along. When we turn the corner it is there. The clay girl is amazing. She is so pretty. There is this tree and the branches are falling down right above her head with lots of leaves that are turned this way and that way as if the wind is blowing. The girl's hair is blowing in her face and as I get up closer I stop.

"You don't like it?" his tone drops and I hear the disappointment.

What do I say...there are no words.

"I thought..."

"I...I...like it...it...it's me isn't it?" I look up at him trying not to get too emotional.

"Yes...the first day I really noticed you. You were outside under the tree and I couldn't take my eyes off of you. I watched as the wind played in your hair and the sun glistened on your skin. It was the most amazing sight ever so I created the moment to make it last forever."

My eyes fill up with tears but I blink them away. I am in awe. My dad breaks the silence in the air. "This is really amazing what you did here." He takes my mom's hand in his. "Come on Iet's go look at the other pieces of art." She looks at me and smiles and then lets my dad lead her away from us.

Kodiak stands in front of me so that he can look into my eyes getting my full expression. "I'm sorry...I didn't mean to like put you on display for the world to see. It's just I saw you that day and I seen this girl who captured a piece of my heart. I wanted to get to know the girl under the tree...you looked lost in your own thoughts. Please say something...anything."

"I...I...you did this? It's amazing...I...I...love it. No one has ever done anything like...like...this b...before. I was surprised that's for sure." I reach up to him bringing my arms around his neck and pulling him into me to kiss his soft sweet lips. He wraps his hands around my waist and kisses me back.

"You really like it?"

I turn to look at it again and a small smile forms on my face. "I don't like it...I love it."

Kodiak:

I can't get over the fact that they grounded her for something that I caused. I hate not being able to talk with her. I have no clue if she will make it to the exhibit today and while I wait I pace back and forth. As I am pacing I see her walking around with her parents so I sneak up behind her and grab her hand. Just feeling her this close to me makes my heart skip beats. God she is beautiful. When her parents see me they give each other that look like I should not be there. So I guess she never told them that I was going to be there.

They make a comment to her about being grounded but I'm not really listening to them. Ophelia's sweet voice breaks my thoughts. "So where's your sculpture?"

"It's over here." I lead her to where it is on display and the moment her eyes see it her expression changes. Shit she doesn't like it. Why did I have to create her? I shouldn't have done it. "You don't like it?" She doesn't reply. Crap. "I thought..." I start to say and she starts talking about the same time interrupting me.

"I...I...like it...it...it's me isn't it?" her voice almost in a whisper.

I will never forget that day. The day my heart fell for her. I wanted her then, just as much as I want her now. "Yes...the first day I really noticed you. You were outside under the tree and I couldn't take my eyes off of you. I watched as the wind played in your hair and the sun glistened on your skin. It was the most amazing sight ever so I created the moment to make it last forever."

She stands there in silence looking at the sculpture. Her dad interjects the conversation. "This is really amazing what you did here." I watch as he leads his wife away...to give us time to talk. I like that about him and he did not try to start anything like most dads would have. I think he knows know how much I actually love his daughter.

I don't know what to say to her. She is still staring at the sculpture not saying anything so I block her view so that she can only look at me.

It's amazing...I...I...love it." She says as tears swell in her eyes. "No one has ever done anything like...like...this before. I was surprised that's for sure." And out of nowhere she grabs me and kisses me.

"You really like it?" I have to ask her again but just a second ago I would have thought she hated it.

She looks at it again and smiles up at me "I don't like it...I love it."

"Can we get out of here and go somewhere?" I ask her.

"I'm grounded remember. I doubt my parents will allow it." She starts to look around the room for her parents.

I grab her hand and we walk around to find her parents. When I see them I walk up to them. "Excuse me sir...ma'am...the other day was my fault. Ophelia would have never left if it wasn't for me. She was having this panic attack and I was just trying to protect her I guess...so please be upset with me not her."

They look at each other and her dad looks at her and then back towards me. "She could have said no but we know our daughter and she would have done anything to get away at that moment. The thing is we did not know where she was and she skipped school with you."

"Sir...I can assure you nothing happened. I took her to the Gardens because I knew it would calm her down...believe me sir nothing else happened."

Her dad looks at her mom. He looks back up at her and shakes his head. "I can't believe this is happening...I mean I knew it would happen one day but damn." He looks at me. "You really love my daughter don't you?"

"Yes sir...I would never hurt her. I only want what is best for her."

"I actually believe that. I'm sure it took a long time creating that piece back there of her. I can't believe I am actually saying this, I like you." He reaches over and grabs my shoulder.

"Well thank you sir...so I know Ophelia is grounded but is there any way that I could maybe take her to get ice cream or something?"

"I guess it will be alright, have her home by eight."

She lets go of my hand and I watch as she hugs her dad. "Thank you daddy...you're the best."

When we get outside she is grinning ear to ear. "Did that just happen?"

"Yes...I think they like me," I say cheerfully.
