Chapter 5
~Y/N POV~
After finishing off the last of my water, I slumped back against the brick wall and let out a loud sigh.
Eyeing up Hanuel over by his own wall he sat up straight, lifting his head up from his shoulder and offered me a smile. Not like the one before but a smaller version of it.
"You're finished?" Hanuel
I nod and put down the metal cup and push the tray over to the door next to Hanuels tray. The two trays will stay there for clearing when our next meal is due. That will be when the night comes. Crawling back to the wall I sat against it but laid my legs out flat to stretch a little bit.
"So, where did you grow up?"
I asked him pretty much out the blue. Hanuel threw his head back and laughed. Like a genuine laugh that was music to my ears. I like it and I wanted him to do it again and made a mental note to try and get him to laugh like that again sometime.
"We're starting with that are we?" Hanuel
I nod firmly and crossed my arms over my chest.
"Yes."
He chuckles and looks up the ceiling.
"Well I grew up in different places. My Dad travelled a lot for work so my mom and I tagged along with him." Hanuel
"What did your dad do?"
Hanuel lowered his eyes back to the floor and shifted on his butt as if to get more comfortable.
"My family have a business developing weapons and we sell them. That's what my father did and made very good money doing it. He bought a couple businesses too while he was making this money." Hanuel
I nod while listening to him.
"Is he still alive?"
The way his body froze and his small smile dropped.
"No. And good thing too. He may of been a wealthy man but a family man he was not. My father was abusive towards my Mom and I." Hanuel
"You didn't kill him did you?"
Blurting out the question I immediatetly regretted it but surprisingly that made him smile again.
"I wish I did but no. Someone else did." Hanuel
A part of me wanted to ask who if he knew but I didn't want to dig too deep into that stuff just yet. We may have plenty time to go over that if Lex is not in any hurry to either kill us or whatever else he plans to do.
"I get to ask you questions too right?" Hanuel
I nod, a small smile ghosting my lips.
"Where did you grow up?" Hanuel
I snorted back a laugh because he threw my question right back at me. And judging by the smug grin on his face he knew this too.
"Here and there too. I never knew my family so I bounced from home to home in foster care. I was never adopted but from what I've been told I was given to the system when I was two years old."
Hanuel nodded but his eyes narrowed.
"Did you ever want to find out how you got there? Or what happened to your family? I mean you were two so someone looked after you until then." Hanuel
"True and even though I have been curious. I haven't. I don't want to face disappointment if I was unwanted."
His eyes dropped and washed over in sadness but as quickly as that expression came another took it's place.
"I couldn't imagine anyone that wouldnt want you Nim Y/n. You're a walking angel." Hanuel
No matter how hard I tried not to blush or laugh all at the same time, I failed miserably.
"Ah! So he's a massive flirt too huh?"
Again Hanuel laughed like last time but shrugged his shoulders.
"I can be charming when I want to be." Hanuel
"Are you married?"
Again I was blurting out my thoughts through my questions. There was a moment when Hanuel paused staring back at me and even his smile faltered for a moment before he shook his head.
"No and I don't plan to be either. The whole marriage and kids thing doesn't appeal to me. I'm more than content to live my life buried in my work." Haneul
Honestly I felt bad that he wants that type of life but I think that possibly due to having a bad father growing up that may contribute to his choice of lifestyle. Or I could be very wrong.
"Anyway, do you want any of that stuff? Marriage and kids. The whole white picket fence thing." Hanuel
He waved his hand lazily but with a roll of his eyes.
"Yes I do. One day. If that day can ever come."
"It will." Hanuel
He snapped at me and even leaned forward over his crossed legs, staring back at me.
"You will get out of here. I'll make sure of it." Hanuel
I simply nod at him but spotted my small rock that Hanuel took off me earlier and dropped to the floor. It wasn't too far away so I leaned over onto my side and picked up the small stone between my fingers and tucked under my legs as I corssed them. Hanuel sat in silence watching me. His eyes never left me and we sat in silence again.
"How old are you?"
I asked randomly just to break the silence. It was smothering me and I just needed to speak otherwise I'll feel like I'm going insane again. This conversation was actually making me feel more calm than I was before.
"26. What about you?" Hanuel
"I'm 22."
"Not much of an age gap then huh?" Hanuel
I laughed but shook my head. I like this side to him. It's nice and kind of gets my mind off the reality we're both in right now.
"No I guess not."
I managed to speak through giggles. This made him chuckle again but he stopped when his head shot towards the door and he leaned towards that direction. His eyes then lit up and he placed a finger to his lips signalling me to shush.
I did.
My hands fell over my mouth to keep quiet and I stared at the door expecting something to happen.
Then after tortous seconds later the small rectangle hatch at the bottom of the door popped open. A large gloved hand reached through grabbing both our mental trays before pushing through another two trays. Again a mental cup each most likely filled with plain water, another loaf of stale bread but this time with beans and rice. Most likely cold too. There's never anything warm to eat in this place.
The hatch shut closed again and both Hanuel and I stayed in silence until the footsteps beyond the door faded away.
Hanuel crawled towards the two trays,, picking them up as he stood up to his feet and wondered over to me. Passing me one tray before sliding down the wall by his back to sit beside me. I thanked him for passing me my tray but I was surprised he sat beside me.
"Another topic we can discuss is animals. I like dogs. What about you?" Hanuel
I smiled at his question but picked at the bread. There was some mouldy parts on it that needed taken off and I ignored the way Hanuel glared at my bread.
"I like both dogs and cats. Parrots too because they can copy what you say if you teach them. I don't have pets but I do have my cactus. Mike."
Hanuel almost choked on his water when I spoke about Mike. And then he laughed lightly as if he misheard what I said.
"Mike? You named your cactus Mike?" Hanuel
"I did."
I spoke proudly, grinning wide and looking at him while I shove a small piece of bread in my mouth. Hanuel's eyes wondered to my lips for a moment before he laughed again.
"Well then tell me about this so called Mike." Hanuel
"I would love to."
I said before going into detail about how I handmake small hats that would fit a cactus. I've made cowboy hats, sumberos, tall hats and caps out of fabric and sewing. I design them all, make them and put a different one on my cactus. It's all for fun really but as I speak about it, Hanuel actually humours me and listens.
