Prithvi Mata is known by the different names like Earth, Tellus, Zameen etc. But for the immortals living on this planet, it has only one name. That is, the Mother. A title of respect and honor. 

Immortals are ancient beings which lived on Earth before any other species appeared. They have long life spans. They mostly keep to themselves, cloaked in invisibility and other protective spells. The spells are for outsiders from other planets. It is hard for a human to see them. Human senses are simply not equipped to deal with immortals. 

This could have led to immortals ruling the Prithvi Mata with humans as slaves. Yet, that is not the case. Because the immortal laws  prohibits it. They never interact with humans or interfere in their lives. To do so would result in death by the Immortal Council.

However, there is one exception. That is the trial of seven cycles. It is a trial in which the chosen members of Immortal tribe participate. It is a test which can make or break an immortal. In this trial the most dangerous enemy of an immortal; the emotions. 

Every thousand years, on the day of mother, an occasion to pay respect to Prithvi Mata, the immortal clans hold this sacred trial.  

There are total seven clans of immortals. Each with their own powers. All of them hold separate territories, called as continents in human language. They remain separate from other clans unless there is a war or visitor from another planet. Then, they face the situation as one entity. 

To ensure this unity, a council was formed millions of years ago by the elders of the clans. There is a new head chosen for the council every thousand year.  The warrior clan and the Sage clan are usually the top contender for the position. Each of them have one seven cycle trial winner. 

Also, they have many level fifth and sixth life cycle immortals. So, no other clan can match them in power.  This leads to intense lobbying among the council by these two clans. Promises are made, spells and gems are used to bribe and get the vote. 

The time for next election is vastly approaching along with life cycle trial. Each clan is working hard for the trial. The participating members usually belong to important families within the clans and in future, they are always given high positions of authority.

 However, very few members pass the trial successfully. Most stop at the third level, no longer able to bear it.
