25. Settling In
"I don't believe we've met properly before." Optimus said, gesturing towards Nightblade.
Nightstar had had her injuries treated by Ratchet and Smokescreen was with her the entire time, as was Nightblade. The trio were now in the main room where Optimus was as well as the rest of the Autobot team.
"Uh, no. No we haven't." Nightblade started, "I'm ah, Nightblade, Nightstars older brother." He finished, holding his servo out like a gentlemech. Optimus smiled lightly and shook his hand. "I take it you are willingly converting to the Autobots side and against Megatron." Optimus assumed.
Nightblade then turned steely cold as soon as Megatrons name was mentioned. "Yes. I am completely against Megatron. I will fight by your side and follow your lead." He said. Optimus nodded in acknowledgement whilst a snicker could be heard from a particular blue femme.
Nightblade turned his helm and gave the femme a smug look, raising an optic ridge. "Is there an issue sweetheart?" He asked. Arcee scowled before answering, "Nothing, I just don't understand why we're now taking in 'Con after 'Con!"
"Arcee that is quite enough." Optimus warned. Arcee rolled her optics and transformed before driving out of the base.
"Did I do something?" Nightblade asked innocently. "No, she's just, sensitive." Bulkhead assured him. "You may want to refrain from using 'nicknames' though." Optimus advised.
"Whaaat..?" Nightblade said holding his servos out, as if he did nothing wrong.
"Sweetheart?" Ratchet questioned.
"Ok ok. But I can't help it, it's how I talk." Nightblade defended himself. "That is true." Nightstar backed him up.
The Bots left it at that and didn't make anything more of the situation.
Nightstar took it upon herself to find Arcee and apologise for her brother. She transformed and left but when she exited she didn't notice any bike tracks. She change back into her bi-pedal form.
"Where'd she go?"
After a few minutes of thinking she remembered the one place Arcee normally goes when she's upset or anything along that spectrum. She climbed to the top of the base, or from the outside, the top of the giant rock mountain.
Nevertheless she found the blue femme sitting at the edge of the giant rock. Nightstar approached carefully and quietly not wanting to startle her. She then sat next to her and waited in silence.
"What are you doing here?"
"I just wanted to apologise for Nightblade, he went too far and I'm sorry. It's. . . Just part of who he is. He. . . tends to bury his pain and anger with jokes and wittiness." Nightstar explained.
Arcee nodded in understanding, she wasn't truly mad at Nightblade, she never was. After he saved her spark on the Nemesis her earned her trust, enough of it anyways. All this business with the 'Cons had just brought back bad memories of her past, and deceased, partners.
Cliffjumper and Tailgate.
"I'm not mad, I'm sorry as well. I just. . . I do the same thing." She admitted, referring to what Nightblade does with his feelings. "I shove pain and sorrow aside but I fill it with aggression and coldness." She finished.
Nightstar smiled lightly, "You guys are similar." Arcee didn't say anything in return, just smiled and stared at the beautiful site that was Earths sunset.
The two femmes returned to the base happy and back to normal, no one dared questioned what took place or what caused the sudden mood change, too scared to set someone off again.
Nightstar eventually found Smokescreen showing Nightblade his new berthroom, the one directly next to Arcees.
"Ummm she really doesn't like me I think I should have a different berthroom..." Nightblade said.
"Blade it's ok, she doesn't hate you. She's just. . . had bad memories replaying recently. That's all." Nightstar informed him as she walked up to the two mechs.
Nightblade shrugged and walked into his new berthroom, "If you say so." He looked around his room, "Well! I'm gonna settle in," he turned back to the pair of Cybertronians and paused before speaking again. "You can. . . Do whatever it is Sparkmates do." He finally finished.
"Gee thanks Nightblade, you're too kind." Smokescreen said. "Yeh, thanks for the permission." Nightstar added before laughing and walking off with her sparkmate to their own berthroom.
Smokescreen shut the door and ran up to Nightstar and picked her up from behind before spinning her around.
He vented before speaking, "It feels like it's been forever since we've been alone like this."
"Cause it has silly." Nightstar laughed.
Smokescreen was trying to be a gentlemech and move things slowly to a certain extent, but he couldn't help himself. He'd been deprived of this feeling for so long he could barley control himself.
He lifted her up by her waist and she instinctively wrapped her legs around his own waist. He placed his lips onto hers and kissed her passionately.
He then slowly walked forward, without breaking the kiss and gently laid her onto the berth. Both their sparks were beating rapidly. Both beings craving desperately for each other.
"I love you so much Nightstar."
"I love you too Smokescreen."
---
The next morning Nightstar woke up, tired as ever. She turned to her left and noticed Smokescreen gone. She then looked to her right and saw him reading some datapads at the desk.
He noticed her awaken and smiled, walking up to her. She swung her legs over and stood up, planning to walk towards her sparkmate. But her legs weren't going to allow that.
Taking one step forward, her legs felt weak as ever, she fell forward, Smokescreen catching her before she could hit the ground.
"Smokescreen. . . did we-"
"Yes, yes we did." He answered her, knowing what her question was.
"Oh. . . Right then." She replied, attempting to stand up once again. With Smokescreens help she could just stand and walk.
The pair walked outside and joined the others in the main room.
Nightstar looked around. "Where's my brother?"
"No clue." Ratchet dismissed her with the wave of a servo. "I think he may still be in his berthroom." Arcee informed her.
Nightstar was still a little worried of what Megatron was going to do given all that had happened, and so she was still paranoid about losing someone close to her. "Could you do me a favour and check he's in there? Please." She asked. "Sure." Arcee replied calmly.
Arcee walked down the hallway and pressed a button opening the doors. Before her was a snoring Nightblade, comfortably asleep on his berth. She smiled and walked up towards the berth and knelt down beside him.
'He's quite cute.' She thought to herself. Her expression then turned to a confused one. "Ugh shut it Arcee" she said, not realising she spoke aloud. Nightblade then slowly opened his optics being greeted by Arcee, quite shockingly. He yelled causing Arcee to yell and fall back.
"What're you doing in my room?!" Nightblade exclaimed. "Your sister asked me to check on you!" She explained.
"Oh." Nightblade said, relaxing afterwards, "and here I thought you just came to see me." He said. Arcee rolled her optics and left the room. Nightblade snickered before getting off his berth and joining the others.
"What was with all the noise?" Smokescreen questioned raising an optic ridge. "Nothing!" Arcee was quick to blurt out. Nightblade smirked, "Yeh, nothing." He said whilst looking at Arcee.
Nightstar watched him and looked back and Smokescreen who just shrugged in response.
Maybe this was what normal was like? Being with everyone you love, no fighting. Felt weird, different. But nice.
