Guardians

Nahko's POV

"Optimus. With all due respect, the human children are in as much danger here as anywhere! Children?! They have no protective shell! If they get underfoot they will go Squish" Ratchet tells him. He's not wrong.

"Then for the time being, Ratchet, we must watch where we step" Optimus tells him. Suddenly an alarm goes off. Me and the other kids look around confused. Jack asks what the alarm is.

"Just the Proximity sensory, no need to worry" Bee beeps.

"Proximity sensos, someones up top" Raf translates.

"Bee says it's nothing we should be worried about" I add.

"It's Agent Fowler" Ratchet states.

"I thought we were the only humans who know about you guys" Jack says confused.

"Special agent Fowler is our designated liaison to the outside world, as he tends to visit only when there are issues. It may be best if you do not meet him at this time" Optimus tells us. So we go hide around the corner.

"Seven wrecks, thirty four fender benders, a three hour traffic jam, and on particular note numerous reports of a speeding motorcycle of unknown make and a black-and-yellow custom muscle car! So, anything you care to get up your tin chassis, Prime?" Fowler demands as he exits the elevator.

"We have the situation under control, agent Fowler" Optimus assures him.

"They're back, aren't they?" he asks.

"If you are referring to the Decepticons I have doubts that they ever left. Your planet is much too valuable" Optimus tells him.

"Than it's time to wake up the Pentagon" Fowler states. Is he really that stupid? I've seen these guys fight, the human military wouldn't stand a chance. True, they could probably take down one, but not without heavy looses.

"Hear me, agent Fowler. We are your best, possibly your only defense against the Decepticon threat" Optimus tells him.

"Says you" Fowler sneers.

"Hey, fleshy! Did anyone get splattered on that freeway? Team Prime knows when to use force. And how much to use" Bulkhead tells him crashing some sort of machine into a ball.

"Bulkhead! I needed that!" Ratchet exclaims.

"Enough" Optimus tells them and turns back to Fowler. "Millitary involvement will only result in catastrophe. Perhaps you can condone widespread human casualties, agent Fowler. I, however, cannot" he tells him.

"Then do us both a favor and handle this, Prime! Under the radar. Or I will" Fowler tells him and leaves. We come out of hiding.

"Pretty big bearings for a human" Bulkhead states.

"Agent Fowler is concerned for his world Bulkhead, as he should be" Optimus states.

"That maybe true Optimus, but he should treat you all with a little more respect. Especially you" I tell him. "How many times has this team saved Earth?" I ask.

"To many to count" Bee beeps.

"Exactly my point and you will continue to protect Earth from decepticon threat. He should be thankful" I state.

"See, now why can't she be our liaison?" Bulkhead asks.

"She's to young" Ratchet states.

"And still in school" Arcee adds.

"I thank you for your kind words Nahko, but we have dealt with Fowler for the last three years. We do not take any offense from his attitude or ask for thanks for protecting your world" Optimus tells me.

"You shouldn't have to ask" I tell him.

"Blasted Earth check! Cliffjumper's signal popped back online" Ratchet states.

"Who's Cliffjumper?" Miko and I ask.

"How is that possible?" Optimus asks.

"It isn't. Another bug! The system is chock-full of them" Ratchet states.

"If there's any chance Cliff's alive" Arcee tells him.

"Ratchet, prepare sickbay. We may need it" Optimus tells him. Who nods and starts to type in some coordinates on the computer and pulls a lever. A green vortex appears.

"Hey! What can we do?" Miko asks him.

"Remain with Ratchet" he answers. "Autobots roll out" he orders transforming into a truck. They all transform and speed through the vortex. Which Ratchet closes, as soon as they left the burning in my chest went down and I sigh in relief.

"What Just happened?" Jack asks.

"I transported them to the designated coordinates via the Ground Bridge" Ratchet answers.

"What's a ground bridge?" Raf asks.

"Ugh A scaled down version of Space Bridge technology. Since we don't currently possess the means or the energon required for intergalactic travel" Ratchet explains.

"You're stuck here, on Earth" Jack states.

"With the likes of you, yes" Ratchet agrees. "But I constructed the Ground Bridge which allows us to travel from here to anywhere on your planet" he explains.

"Wow, does it work for humans?" Raf asks.

"Naturally" he answers.

"You mean we could just shoot on over and visit our parents in Tokyo?" Miko and I ask him. We haven't seen our parents in months. Though we do talk to them on the phone. It's not the same.

"Within moments. In fact allow me to send you there immediately, all four of you" Ratchet tells us. Leaning down to look at Miko and I in the eyes.

"Watch it Ratchet" Miko tells him.

"Your eyes are different to her's" he states looking at my eyes. I roll them.

"They've been like this since the accident a year ago" I tell him.

"How does your chest feel now?" Raf asks.

"Better actually, it's weird. It was burning when we arrived and now it barely burns at all" I state. Ratchet frowns and goes back to the computer mumbling to himself. The rest of us decide to explore the room.

"What is this anyway?" Miko asks going to touch a console.

"Broken, don't touch it. Don't touch that either" Ratchet tells us as Miko goes to touch something else.

"So, anything here we can touch?" Jack asks him and he doesn't answer.

"How come you guys are using human computers?" Raf asks Ratchet.

"It certainly isn't by choice! It was handed down from previous tenants when we inherited this former missile silo. I make modifications as I see fit" Ratchet explains. As errors appear on screen. Raf said he could fix it. "Really?! You know this is complex technology, don't you? I mean it isn't a child's toy" Ratchet tells him as Raf types something into his laptop. While it's plugged into the main computer.

"Now try" Raf tells him. All the errors are corrected and disappear. Ratchet looks a little impressed and nods his head in thanks.

"So any clue why your chest stopped burning?" Miko asks me.

"I don't know" I tell her. "It flared up yesterday when Jack, Raf and I first encountered the autobots. Then disappear when we left them, then repaired when they arrived at school to collect us. Got worse when we arrived here and then faded again when the others left to look for Cliffjumper" I explain.

"So you think it's somehow connected to the autobots?" Jack asks and I shrug.

"Perhaps I should give you a scan" Ratchet states looking down at me.

"You said yourself you know nothing of human anatomy or medicine" I remind him. "Besides I have a doctor's appointment in a few weeks" I add.

"You do?" he asks.

"Yeah, she has one every two to three months since the accident" Miko tells him.

"How come you were not present?" he asks her.

"Wasn't in that class and only those passing school were allowed to go. And my sister is a bit og a nerd" Miko teases.

"I can still take you on any day" I tell her and we start to rough house.

"Ep ep, be careful of the equipment" Ratchet tells us.

"Lighten up dude" Miko tells him. Before Ratchet can shot back a retort Optimus comms in. Asking for a ground bridge at the arrival coordinates. Ratchet opens it and the others speed through. My chest burns again, but not as bad as before. Ratchet closes the vortex as some sort of explosion goes off on the other end.

"Cutting it a bit close. How about Cliffjumper?" Ratchet asks. No one says anything for a moment. The answer was clear, Cliffjumper is gone.

"What was that explosion? Was there a fight? Can we come with next time?" Miko asks excitedly. I give her a pointed look. So not the time for excitement and Jack leads her away before anyone can yell at her.

"Arcee, what did you see?" Optimus asks. As I start to feel woozy, for some reason.

"Not Cliff. At least Not any more.He was mutated Butchered, like something from those 'Con experiments during the war" she explains and suddenly stumbles.

"Arcee, are you hurt?" Bee asks her.

"I'm fine" she states. "Just dizzy" she admits.

"Me too" I admit.

"Robots who get dizzy?" Miko asks.

"Robots with emotions" Raf adds.

"Robots who can die" Jack states. I notice purple goo on Arcee's hand and point it out to Ratchet. He goes over to her.

"What is this?" Ratchet asks her.

"Don't know. Cliff was covered in it. Leaking it" Arcee explains. As Ratchet takes a sample of it.

"Go take a decontamination bath. Now!" he orders her. She nods and leaves the room.

"Optimus. I hate to bug, but... No bars" Jack states holding up his phone. I check mine and no signal either.

"A security precaution. The silo walls isolate all radio-waves" Optimus explains.

"That makes sense" I state.

"Well, if I don't call my mom like now. I'm pretty sure cops will be out looking for me" Jack tells him. Optimus asks if he has broken the law. "A curfew. It's after ten p.m" he explains.

"I better get home too, or I'll be grounded for a year" Raf states.

"Our host parents don't like us being out late either" I add.

"Earth customs. I hadn't considered. But the issue of your safety remains" Optimus tells us. "Bulkhead! Accompany Miko and Nahko home" he orders.

"Awesome! Our host parents will freak!" Miko cheers. I roll my eyes, I doubt he'd be guarding as a robot.

"And maintain covert surveillance in vehicle form" Optimus adds.

"Curbside duty, got it" Bulkhead says nodding his head. Miko sighs in disappointment as Optimus tells Bee to take Raf home. Arcee was then entrusted to take Jack home when Ratchet gave her a clean bill of health. The bots transform and I get into the drivers seat.

"How come you get drivers seat?" Miko asks me pouting as she gets in.

"Because I'm the oldest, besides I'm not actually driving. Bulkhead is" I tell her. "You can ride in the driver seat next time" I assure her as we leave the base. I give Bulkhead directions to our host parents house. Our host parents freaked about the giant car we arrived in. I told them I am just looking after it for a friend while they are on vacation with their family. They allowed it.

(Next morning)

Bulkhead got us up at the crack of dawn this morning. Not a problem for me. But Miko usually likes sleeping in on the weekend. However, she comes up with the idea to go off-roading as we don't have to be at base straight away.
