Chapter 21: The Moon and Sun Have Met.

Varun Dhawan as Daksh.

Matsya hangs up the phone call, her eyes barely glancing at the screen again before she closes it. "Daksh will probably come soon," she says, her eyes setting themselves on me where it remains. I wonder if she sees me the same way as I see her; as my destruction and my polar opposite.

Perhaps there was a reason why left and right never meet, why west never meets the east and why the sun and moon never collide. It's impossible for them to meet together but that never ends the longing.

But from the way it looks like right now, it seems if the longing is over and the moon and sun have met.

"Who's Daksh?" I ask, wanting to change the topic before I start to speak more negative words. Matsya walks over to the door, opening it the hallway. I hoist my bag over my shoulder which contains nothing besides a spare change of clothes, food, money, and tissues. My phone aimlessly sits on top of my bed, an entire room away. Matsya said that phones can track us down.

"Our getaway driver. It'll be fishy if we drove in Amir's car and he can track us down," she replies, glancing around the door before ushering me out of my home. "We have to catch a taxi to this rundown car park first. Otherwise, Amir can see what car we get into through the surveillance camera."

"Matsya, don't you think you're overthinking this?" I question, raising an eyebrow.

"Amir is ruthless. A single mistake can be our death sentence, why don't you understand? If it's not bad enough, he has men all over this country that know what I look like. It'll just take him a single text and I'll never be safe for the rest of my life," she describes, stopping to look at me in the eyes. Her eyes however find themselves drifting away from me and taking obvious glances to all the neighbor's homes. "Enough talking, we should go now."

I hold onto her wrist, my touch soft but it still makes her look back. Her brown eyes scan mine and I watch her expressions with slight horror. Matsya is afraid - she's truly and completely afraid of Amir. "It'll be okay Matsya," I say, trying to reassure her.

She shakes her head no and that's how I found out it won't be. Tears are evident in her eyes, pooling in the darkness of her eyes. How will life ever be okay again when my best friend is dead and a don is determined to crush whatever happiness I have left? How can I be okay when my mind keeps drifting off to Tina and how I can't even cry for her. I can't even grieve for my best friend, for the only person who supported me throughout my entire life because I'm afraid for my own life. Her killer is still alive, rich and happy and Tina is looted of all these things because she was an extra that wasn't needed for him.

Everything won't ever be okay because I'll always be reminded of the pool of blood surrounding her head, I'll always have a don after me, and whenever I look in Matsya's eyes, I won't be reminded of love, I'll be reminded of Tina's death.

Nothing will ever be 'okay' again. I'll always be conflicted on if everything that has happened is right.

After walking as causally as we can despite the pain chewing away inside me, we reach an awfully dodgy place. I glance at Matsya who looks around the dust filled parking lot for her Daksh. Even the parking lines are faded here and there isn't a single soul that is here. A few streets away there's some huge arena but right now, there's nothing going on there.

Night is looming over us, the sky already fading away as the sun moves across the sky. Matsya seems to be completely at home, her expression showing no fear as she scans the parking lot. Over her shoulder, there's a black bag that she grabbed from Amir's car. Matsya explained that Amir always kept a spare bag in his car for emergencies.

Suddenly, I see a flash of black moving at an alarming scent. Dust kicks up into my nose as the car twists into the parking lot, driving faster than needed. The window of the car is open and a tan hand leans out of it, holding a single cigarette. Matsya walks towards him, having no fear of the devil that swooped in the parking lot with the speed of my heart.

My heart races, set off by the suddenness and surprise of the car. I walk beside Matsya. The car door swings open and a lean man walks out of it, taking a drag of his cigarette. The fog blows out of his lips and he smiles when he sees us, swinging the car keys.

Matsya smiles back at him. "You have a car? It's not really your style," she comments, although I couldn't see what exactly isn't his style. The car looks as sexy as it can for a car with its pitch black shade and sleek windows. The man himself looks daunting and dangerous as the car is with his black shirt that ripples in the wind and his tight dark blue jeans. "I thought you only had bikes."

"You're absolutely correct. I have no interest in cars," he admits, watching Matsya as he twirls his cigarette in his fingers. He tosses the car keys to Matsya who catches it easily. "But a misfortuned frat boy did. I swear it was so easily."

"What race did you win it in?" Matsya asks as he takes a drag of his smoke. He exhales it, the fog blowing around his face as he smiles. I cough, the scent unappealing to me and Daksh laughs at my reaction. I try not to shoot him a glare and place my eyes firmly on the uneven pavement.

"The race between me, the cops and the frat boy. I don't think I've driven that fast before," Daksh explains, sighing. "It wasn't so fun as it seems. Apparently the police can barely drive. I'll just stick to racing against other bikers."

All the dots connect with his words. My eyes widen. He's a racer - most likely into drag racing. But how did Matsya meet him? Daksh takes a long look at me and then he looks at Matsya. "He's a bit lost, isn't he?" Daksh questions.

"Wouldn't you be if some random guy told him he stole a car?" Matsya replies, seeming unimpressed with Daksh. He shrugs and Matsya turns to look at me. "I met Daksh in a bike race. I used to be one of the best bike racers in town. Daksh decided to place a bet on his bike. I decided not to take his precious bike but in return, he had to do a favor."

"I never break a promise so here I am. Oh, and Matsya, you're running away right?" Daksh questions, his eyes lingering on Mastya. With a gulp, she nods. "I could guess with the bags and street. Just a tip, go Goldentown. It's a new place, fairly average homes and pretty low-key."

"Thanks," Matsya says, awkwardly shrugging. "Do you want my bike by the way? It's kind of worthless to me now." Daksh's eyes widen and he nods, trying to play it off cool. Matsya tosses the keys to him which he gracefully catches in his free hands.

"Good luck," he comments. "I hope you guys are successful in whatever you're trying to do." Matsya nods and he walks off, dropping his cigarette to the ground before crushing it. I turn my gaze to Matysa who causally slides into the car seat despite the fact one of the best looking guys I've ever laid eyes on walked past us.

I walk over towards the passenger seat, sliding into the seat. The car smells fairly new and the leather seats are extremely comfortable. My thoughts revolve around Matsya and Matsya's past. I can easily imagine her in leather jackets, tight jeans and racing other riders - but it feels strange realizing that Matysa's world is much larger than I imagined it to be.

"What would happen if Amir finds us?" I question, turning my gaze to Matysa. Her eyes remain firmly outside and she turns the key engine, making me wonder if she didn't hear me.

"You want to hear the truth or the sugar coated version?"

"Truth," I say, unknowing if I really want to hear the truth. I've already placed the bet on what would happen to me if he found me. It'll most likely be death or worse, he'll hurt my younger brother. The car starts to move and Matsya pulls it to fast speed despite her not wearing a seatbelt.

"He'll kill us both," she finally admits, "he's not good with people who disobeyed him, even if he's known them for years."

I lean back into the seat, sinking into the leather as the truth dawns onto me. Death. I wouldn't be living in this world any longer - I'll miss out on all the small milestones like marriage and a career.

"We should change our names," I say, trying to hangs the topic. I let a crack of a smile come on my lips with the words. "I'll be Sitara and you can be Chandini."

"Chandini?" she repeats, laughing. I fake gasp, taking a sharp inhale. My eye sparkle with happiness - it's so good to hear hee laugh. Today may have been the toughest day of my life and I just need a break. I need to be normal for a moment or two, to just laugh and bask in the happiness of giggles.

"Why not?"

"It sounds like a plate's name," she remarks, causing me to widen my eyes even more. I inch away from her, trying to get away from the monster who hates my thoughts.

"It's because you and steel plates both glow?" I laugh and Matsya glares at me, slowing down for a red light. "Whatever. You can be Channo then."

"Sitara and Channa sounds like a Bollywood duo though. You can be Tom," Matsya complains, turning the car until We reached the highway. I laugh, watching the cars zoom past us.

"My mum's dog had that name. Are you calling me a kootha? (Dog)," I question, sniveling my nose up.

"Fine. Jerry because you're a darpok (scaredy cat)," Matsya replies, shrugging. I scrunch up my nose at the idea of being called Jerry all the time. Matsya combs her hand through her brown hair, letting it flutter behind her.

"Jerry was my ex crush's name. Try again," I reply. It's too warm in this car, it's too small. I open up the window as ideas float through my head. "Ranjhana?"

"Non desis would can you Ranjaanaa," Matsya protests. "Ricky? Or what about Veer?" Her voice trails off when her phone starts to vibrate in her pocket. Matsya curses before her eyes start to scan the floor of the car for her bag. I grab her bag, my hand reaching inside it for her phone but instead my hand grabs something extremely cold.

I pull it out, gripping it by its handle and my eyes widen at the sight of the sleek gun. Matsya takes a glance over me and my horrified expression before dropping her eyes to the gun. She snatches the bag away from me, leaving the gun in my hands. She quickly grabs the phone that vibrates in her hands, opens the window to a fresh gust of air and threw it out of the window.

A second later, I hear the crunch of the phone being destroyed. "Mastya, what's this?" I ask, my voice loud and clear. Matsya closes the window and throws her bag back on the floor.

"Who knows if Amir would come back -"

"You're being paranoid. He won't. This thing will just get us in trouble," I interrupts, my eyes darkening at the sight of it. My minds flashes to Tina and my heart just stops for a second. This thing, this object killed her. This thing, these feelings with Matsya killed her - Why don't I understand this? Why can't I just stay away from all of this?

"It's for our protection -"

"Until some police officer comes and arrest us both. Until one of us suffer the same fate as Tina. Why can't you understand this thing killed my best friend?" I reply, my jaw tightening as I watch Matsya. She sighs and looks over to me, her eyes softening upon hearing my words.

Her eyes flicker to the street and then they glance back at her. "I'll leave it at our first stop. But what if Amir catches up to us? What would we do?" she quizzes, giving me so many possibilities of the future.

"I would rather die myself than see more blood," I reply, my eyes focusing away from Matsya. For the last few minutes, my eyes have been tracing her every feature, taking in her windblown hair and her dark brown eyes. But now, my mind has been overtaken by images of blood and memories of mg best friend.

"I would do anything to get this nightmare done with," she replies.

How was the chapter?

If Daksh seems familiar, you probably remember him from How To Catch a Criminal written by none other than the extremely talented BollywoodLoveStories It was so fun doing this crossover!

I'll be updating PKKNH as well! Keep an eye out for that!
