Can't Tell You.

The train ride had been rather enjoyable. The taxi ride wasn't too bad either. But the nerves struck both of them when they stopped at the house.

"You sure this is the place?" Jiro asked looking at the normal house.

"Yeah," Sero said slowly.

They got out of the cab and walked up to the front door. They rung the doorbell and a tall man with black hair opened it, he looked down at them, recognition in his face.

"You two from UA?" he asked.

"Yeah... we're here about - " Sero began.

"I'm sure," the man began slowly a sadness in his voice, "come on in... his mother will want to hear all about it."

They sat in the living room. The black leather couches were comfortable but still, Sero and Jiro sat straight. They had explained Denki's state in the prison and assured the two across from them that he seemed fine.

Denki's mother, Mrs. Kaminari, was a normal-sized woman with long yellow hair and sad eyes. She looked into her lap and bit her lip the entire time the two of them spoke. When they stopped speaking they looked to her expectantly.

"Th-Thank you for making the trip out here..." she whispered, "see... they haven't allowed me to see him."

That took Jiro and Sero by surprise.

"What!" Jiro cried, she blushed after her outburst and shifted uncomfortably.

"Why wouldn't they let you see him?" Sero asked.

"They think my presence might make him unstable... I can't see him, his father can't see him... so I," she burst into tears stunning the two across the coffee table.

Her husband came over, sat next to her and put a hand on her shoulder.

"I appreciate you two coming out to tell us about him," she murmured trying to wipe her tears away, "I wish I could see him. I know that if I could just talk with him I could understand why... he could tell me why..."

Her husband sighed and nodded.

"Mam'," Sero said, "Do you have any reason that you can think of for why he did it?"

"No," Denki's father, Mr. Kaminari, answered darkly, "We never had a reason to. He never acted strangely, he was always so gentle, especially with his sister... we never had any reason... but maybe we just missed the signs."

"We -" Jiro began.

"Hey Daddy!" someone called. There was a pitter-patter as someone with bare feet ran down the stairs. A young girl with short black hair and a yellow lightning bolt that matched Kaminari's natural pattern, "My computer crashed again!"

Jiro and Sero looked to her and smiled, she was like a miniature Kaminari. She looked to them and without fear pointed to them.

"Who are they?" she asked.

"We're friends of your brothers," Jiro answered.

The girl's face lit up and she ran up to them, "Really!? Momma won't tell me why he won't come home so can you? Did he get hurt fighting a villain?"

"Kasusai," her father ordered.

Kasusai pouted but looked back to them, "Can I show you my collection of hero cards!?" she pleaded.

"Kasusai, leave them alone," her mother scolded softly wiping the last of her tears away.

"No, don't worry ma'am," Sero laughed.

"We'd love to see your collection," Jiro concurred.

Kasusai squealed in joy and ran back to the stairs. "Come on, come on, come on!" she laughed jumping up and down.

"You don't have to," Mr. Kaminari told them.

"It's no problem, sir, we really don't mind," Sero chuckled.

"I'll get some snacks, you two must be hungry after your trip," the mother nodded standing up and drying her puffy eyes.

The two followed the girl to her room where she showed off her many hero posters, but outnumbering them were homemade pictures. It was obvious that most of them were made collectively by her and Denki while the rest were of Denki.

"My big brother's gonna be a great hero!" Kasusai explained proudly, "look! I helped him make his hero suit!"

The homemade colored stick figure bared a slight resemblance to Kaminari's hero suit.

"Wow, he's so lucky to have someone like you helping him out," Sero nodded sadness weighing him down.

"Don't worry," Kasusai said pulling the picture down, "I know what happened. Denki got really hurt, right? Everyone thinks I can't handle it but I can! I'm not too little to know those things even though everyone says it! I'm not scared of it. Cause I know that Denki is super strong and super cool and I know he's gonna get better! My big brother is going to be the coolest hero ever! He won't let any owies stop him!"

"You know what," Jiro said kneeling down so that she could look the girl in the face, "I think you're absolutely right."

"I know so," Kasusai affirmed, "And when he's a hero, I'll become his best sidekick!"

"Don't you want to be a hero too?" Sero asked.

"Yeah," Kasusai nodded, "But I got daddy's quirk. That means I'm really good at hacking and computery stuff." She looked back at her dead computer and sighed, "When I don't accidmedentillally create a yucky virus that attacks my computer instead of the stuff I want it to eat like other yucky virus's."

"That's super cool," Sero smiled.

"Yeah! I use the same name Daddy uses for his quirk; Code Mind!" Kasusai laughed.

"Wow, so both you and dad are super skilled with computers," Jiro laughed.

"Yeah, momma and Denki are all about their electricmaty," Kasusai smiled "Just like grammy!"

"Grammy?" Jiro asked.

Kasusai suddenly looked sad, "Yeah... but not like Grammy... cause Grammy's dead."

Both Jiro and Sero felt a wave of sympathy for the girl and they both began to soother her.

"I'm so sorry," Sero said.

"That must've been hard," Jiro nodded.

"It's okay," Kasusai said looking at them, "Denki tells me that she's in a better place...He's always so strong. Like... at grandma's funeral he cried a lot but he still was able to hold my hand! Adults always pull their hands away when they start to cry but Denki didn't! He's strong in a whole lot of ways. And this other time when I fell out of a tree and broke my arm Denki ran me all the way out of the forest and to Grammy's house."

"I am sorry about your grandma," Jiro said sympathetically.

Kasusai looked at the floor and sighed, "She died a few months ago... Denki came back for a weekend to be with us. Momma and Daddy didn't think he'd make it because he had all these school things to do but he came anyway. He surprised us," Kasusai explained surprisingly cheerful.

"Kasusai!" her mother called, "Snack time!"

"SNAAAAAAAAAAACCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKSSSSSSSSS!" Kasusai cheered running down the stairs very quickly.

Sero and Jiro gave each other stared and they knew that they were thinking the same thing.

Kaminari had come home for his Grandmother's funeral.

Did the League have something to do with it?

After snacks, Kasusai went back upstairs to try and fix her computer.

Sero and Jiro worked up the courage and began to dig.

"So, I'm sorry to pry but Kasusai mentioned Denki's grandmother dying, he never told us about that... is that why he came home for that long weekend?" Sero asked.

"Yes, my mother's death hit him hard" Mrs. Kaminari nodded, "Maybe that's when we should've noticed something was wrong. Denki loved his grandmother... she was a hero back in her day, a minor one by the name of 'Bolt'. I didn't follow in her footsteps but instead pursued a company job where I met his father... but Denki was always drawn to his grandmother. She taught him everything about his quirk, its effects... its limits. She trained him and he loved her... her death was hard on all of us, but Denki was quiet the entire time... I'd never seen him cry so much except at her funeral." She was quiet as she spoke but her mind was full of guilt and pain.

Why didn't she see the signs?

Where had she gone wrong?

Could she have saved him?

"Mrs. Kaminari," Jiro pressed softly, "If you don't mind us asking, how did she die?"

"It was a terrible accident," Mr. Kaminari answered softly sitting down next to his wife, "She was T-boned at an intersection. It was a hit-and-run, the people who hit her fled the scene and dumped their car in a river. They were never found."

"Maybe the lack of justice pushed him to it," Mrs. Kaminari muttered. "But... but I don't understand why he would do it... it's not like him... did we just lose him too long ago and never see it?"

"Ma'am," Jiro gritted standing up, "I don't think that's it at all... in fact... I don't think your son wanted to betray us."

"Jiro," Sero hissed.

"What?" both Kaminari's asked.

"We found things that lead us to believe that Denki might be innocent, we've been trying to find evidence to get him out of there... and I think that with your help we can do it!" Jiro announced.

The Kaminari's looked to each other stunned.

***two hours later***

"This algorithm should be able to trace the signal back to the phone that sent it," Mr. Kaminari stated pulling out the hard-drive and handing it to Sero, "But you'll have to find a way to connect the hard-drive to a screen and the screen to the phone."

"Sir," Sero smiled holding up his elbows, "My quirk gives me a crazy amount of tape... I think I can whip something up."

They had told Denki's parents a small fraction of what they knew (they left the grandmother part out for good reason) and the Kaminaris had reacted by immediately offering to help them. They'd run around giving them ideas and information clearly happy that someone though their son was innocent.

"Now, I don't want you kids to get into trouble so give this to the authorities and they can take it from there," Mr. Kaminari instructed.

"Don't worry sir," Jiro lied.

"Thank you so much for this," Mrs. Kaminari smiled hugging them both, "I'm so glad Denki found such good friends that believe in him."

"Ma'am, we're gonna get your son out of there, I promise," Sero smiled.

"Thank you both," Jiro bowed.

"No," Mr. Kaminari smiled, "Thank you, now scram, you two have school tomorrow."

"We sure do!" Sero laughed as he and Jiro walked out the door.

They waved goodbye and hailed a taxi. They climbed in and began to drive. It was quiet at first, a stunned sort of silence that allowed the two to think about what they had just learned.

On the way there, Jiro began to sob.

"Whoa, what's wrong!?" Sero asked.

"They killed his grandmother Hanta," Jiro sobbed, "God, they killed his Grandmother to keep him in line."

"We don't know that," Sero tried to soothe.

"Yes we do," Jiro choked, "Maybe the lawyers can say otherwise but I know now... Kaminari was forced to do this! They threatened his family and who knows who else and they acted on it when he tried to rebel."

"We don't know if he tried to rebel," Sero reminded her.

"Don't play those games Sero!" Jiro choked, "We know."

They sat in silence watching the world go by.

"Well," Sero began, "I'll tell you... I'll tell you that those villains made a mistake. They made a mistake thinking we'd accept it that easily."

"And I'll tell you something," Jiro gritted, "They're going to regret it.

Back in Tartarus, Denki Kaminari was looking at himself in his cell mirror. They'd let him out of the chair but he was in an insulated room lined with rubber and other non-conductive materials along with a collar that limited his quirk use. He ran his hand through his hair and tried to smile. The smile faded and he stared at his reflection in hopelessness.

"I wish I could tell you how much I hate you," Denki sighed to his reflection. He walked away and threw himself on his uncomfortable bed staring at the wall.

What was Kasusai doing?

Were his mother and father doing alright?

He was glad they hadn't come to visit him... he wouldn't have been able to lie to them... but at the same time, it made his heart ache to think that they hated him so much that they couldn't even look at him.

And his classmates? Hell... most of them were probably pushing the mere memory of him away. Even Jiro and Sero would be going through their classes trying to forget him.

They had seemed so stubborn to believe that they were right (and they were) that it had made Denki panic thinking that maybe he wouldn't have been able to keep the story up.

"I wish I could've told you guys," Kaminari muttered putting his hands behind his head and staring at the ceiling. "I wish I could tell you..." his voice cracked and he turned to look at the wall again, this time furiously blinking away tears.

This was his life now.

He had to do this.

As long as he did this... everyone would be safe.

He squeezed his eyes shut and shuddered. Fear and despair flooded through his system and made him want to cry; but he couldn't.

"I wish I could tell you..." Kaminari whimpered to himself.
