Ch 9: Bad Idea

Levi's POV:

The remnants of my Chinese food had been dropped onto the floor the second Tanner returned from the basement claiming that Leo was gone

"WHAT THE HELL DO YOU MEAN HE'S NOT HERE?" I snapped, instinctively rising to my feet as my anger began to spike.

All the other boys stared at Tanner in disbelief, even Spencer for once in his life looked shocked.

There's no way he could have just disappeared, not with all the guards we had on hand.

"H-He's gone! There's nothing down there except for one of the chains that was on his cuffs." He said, obviously panicking as he held the small chain link in his fingers.

He broke the handcuffs... Are you kidding me?

He broke the cuffs, somehow got out of the basement, and then somehow got out.

If he could do all that without being caught then...

"Lexi," Dante spoke quietly.

I whipped my head down to look at him, seeing his concerned expression.

"The case."

Shit!

If he could do all that without being caught then he could have probably gotten into my room.

My heart began to race as I stomped forward, taking the leadership position for the moment.

"Well don't just sit there," I demanded, "Look for him!"

The boys didn't hesitate before stepping into action, leaving their food for later.

If he had the case then we needed to track him down before he got to his base... the base that no one knew the location of.

I took my own action, sprinting up the stairs and practically kicking my door open.

What I saw once I walked in nearly knocked the wind out of me.

That crazy son of a bitch was on my bed.

That fact alone should have been enough for me to pull out my gun and shoot him twice in the stomach.

But something else within me decided that that fact was so abstract that all I could do was gawk.

Leo... a man who is part of an organization that absolutely despises mine, the man who miraculously managed to get out of the situation that we put him in, decided that instead of running back to his base like any sane person would, he'd come and sit on my bed instead.

With my cat.

The cat that hates everybody.

Except me, and him apparently.

What the hell was this guy's problem?

His confident eyes met with mine, his usual cocky smirk crossing his face.

"Well, it's about time," he said quietly, shutting the magazine he held with one hand.

My magazine. Meaning that he had already found the knife that I also kept in that drawer.

Who knew what other weapons of mine he had found.

But he didn't seem to have found the case.

I glanced at the cuffs that still surrounded his wrists before meeting his eyes again.

What was he trying to do here?

I shut the door to my room.

I didn't need any of the boys down there knowing that he was here. Not yet.

This guy has been on my nerves for the past couple of days, so he's all mine.

"What the hell are you doing here," I asked, taking a couple cautious steps towards him.

I paused as soon as he shifted his position, hanging his legs off the side of my bed, all while continuing to pet my cat.

I usually never pause... Why did this guy make me so nervous?

"I came to claim my end of the deal." He replied confidently, like I couldn't easily shoot him right here and right now.

He let out a single laugh at the surprised look on my face.

He did all of this just to ask me some questions?

What the fuck could be so important to him that he decided this was the best course of action for him?

"Okay," I said casually, not wanting him to really see how unsure I was about this situation.

I set my hands in the pockets of my shorts, thinking that he probably hasn't seen the gun I kept tucked between my back and my pants.

"Ask away." I mimicked him from before, shifting all my weight onto my left leg, "But I'm limiting you down to four questions since that's how many I asked you."

"Actually you asked me seven questions if we're counting the ones before the initial questioning started, but I can roll with whatever." He responded cheekily.

Of course he would be the kind of guy to remember those kinds of details.

I didn't even remember enough of that conversation to know if he was correct.

I think my mind suppressed most of it to keep me from dwelling on how mad it made me.

"Whatever," I sighed, "I'll up it to five, now hurry up and ask."

Even after he gets his questions, I cant wait to see how he plans on getting out of here.

His smile grew a bit at the slight amount of frustration my voice held.

"Okay, first question," He began, looking down at my cat, "What's her name?"

His question left me dumbfounded, to say the least, and I'm sure I showed that very well with my facial expression.

This guy... he can't be serious right?

After all the stuff we've been through, he decides to ask THAT?

"You're really gonna waste one of your questions on that?" I asked.

Jesus no wonder he makes me so mad.

He's so unpredictable compared to literally everyone else on this God damn planet.

No sane person would do what Leo has done after what he's been through.

Given my experience, I can usually tell what someone is going to do next.

But Him... he keeps catching me off guard and I do not appreciate it.

Leo dramatically set his hand on his still exposed chest, almost looking offended by my words.

"Yes. This is very important to me." He said in faked seriousness.

Wow... just... wow.

"AK" I answered.

The cat perked her head towards me as I spoke her name, meowing in return as she always does.

"Like the gun?" He asked.

"Is that your second question?" I quickly retorted.

He shrugged, "Sure."

Of course.

Why am I even surprised?

I let out a very long, silent sigh. Trying not to dwell on this guy's ridiculousness and focusing on staying on guard.

He could just be trying to distract me by being like this. That's the only logical conclusion I could come up with.

"Yes, like the gun."

"Why?"

Three. Three out of five questions were spent on the origin of my cat.

"We found her in our armory as a kitten messing with the strap of one of our AK 47s."

"Awe" He responded quietly as he scratched AK under her chin.

The sound of her purring felt like a betrayal.

Animals are supposed to be able to sense people with good character.

So why the hell does she like this guy?

"So I'm guessing the case is long gone?" He asked.

Finally, a decent question.

"Yup," I lied, "One of the Boss' guys came and picked it up the morning you decided to barge in."

He let out a disappointed 'hm' and looked upset for a total of two seconds before he just laid himself back onto my bed.

"I figured. Oh well."

Oh well?

OH WELL??

He just failed his mission and all he has to say is oh well?

I guess he's back to being illogical then.

He just laid there on my bed, still petting my cat in his shredded shirt that gave me a perfect view of his perfect torso with his stupid perfect face staring up at my ceiling.

God, I hated him.

At least that bruise he had on his stomach from my brother gave him some sort of fault.

Maybe if I kick it I'll feel better.

"Last question?" I urged, wanting this to be over as fast as humanly possible.

He pushed himself up with one elbow, his smirk returning to his face, confident as ever.

"Oh yeah. Are you free Friday night?"

"Don't you have a gang to get back to?" I asked almost immediately after he spoke.

I didn't want or need to dwell on his question.

"No not really," he responded, "I was told not to come back until I had gotten the case and since that thing is long gone, I guess I'm not going back."

He almost sounded relieved by what he had said.

Which seemed kind of odd, but I didn't think too much of it.

"So what? You're just gonna hang out with me then?" I asked sarcastically.

"Yeah pretty much," He said as he pushed himself back up to face me, "I still want to earn myself that thank you for returning your knife. Plus I kind of don't have anywhere else to go."

My eyes widened.

I didn't think he remembered me saying that.

Nor did I think that he was actually going to answer yes to that.

"That was a joke."

"Really?" He asked, raising from my bed as AK meowed in disapproval, "Why joke about something that I meant so seriously?"

He laughed as I remembered he had said the same thing during the conversation we had the first night we met.

And for some reason that gave me a bunch of mixed feelings.

"Well, now it's a definite no," I concluded.

This made His eyes widen.

Which gave me a large amount of satisfaction.

"Come on Lexi just let me take you on one date. If you hate it then I'll get out of your life forever."

My eyes narrowed at this.

If he thinks that the case is already gone then what is he planning with this.

There's no way Leo has gone this much out of his way just to ask me on a date.

Or maybe he is just that stupid.

"So until Friday night, you're just going to hang out in my room. In a house full of highly trained men ready to kill you if they even catch a whiff of your presence?"

He just stared at me.

"Please?"

My jaw actually dropped.

What is this guy's problem?

"I'll think about it," I said.

I wanted more time to try and think about what his intentions really were.

I'm not stupid enough to put all my trust in this guy right away.

He's unarmed, alone, and apparently has nowhere else to go.

So he says.

Maybe I can get something out of this since he seems very set on taking me on a date.

If he steps out of line I'll just shoot him and be done with it.

"Sweet!" He said, a big smile now set on his face.

He seemed genuinely excited.

"Oh, while you think about it, can I use your shower?"

Oh, yeah he hasn't showered for a while.

No wonder his dark chocolate brown hair didn't look as vibrant as the night we met.

Not to mention the new stubble that showed on his face.

And the darkness under his eyes that definitely weren't there the night we met.

FInally looking him over like this, his body didn't reflect the attitude he'd been carrying at all.

Bruised, exhausted, strained, and bloodied.

All on top of only being fed remnants of frozen food that were most likely expired for days.

Yet none of it showed through his voice, and honestly that played a good part in keeping me from paying any closer attention to anything else.

If I hadn't taken a second to investigate closer, I probably wouldn't have noticed it whatsoever.

I kept that as a mental note.

"Please." I said, pointing to the bathroom, "You're going to smell like a girl though."

He shrugged as he walked towards the bathroom.

"If it smells like you then I won't mind." He responded with a wink.

Luckily he shut the bathroom door before I tried to come up with a response.

I felt myself physically relax.

He stresses me out too much.

I rubbed my eyes with the palm of my hand.

This was a bad idea, right?

Having this guy around was a bad idea.

Maybe that's why part of me wanted to do it so badly.

But the more sane part of me knew that Leo was unpredictable. There's really no way of knowing what was going to happen depending on my answer to his questions.

I sighed, turning towards the door to the stairs.

I needed a drink.
