Ch 5: Sitting Duck
I had already downed half of the soda by the time I stepped back into my room, trying to analyze why exactly Leo came back.
Stress drinking? I guess you could call it that.
But its pretty understandable given my current situation.
How did he even find me in the first place?
I tossed my gun back onto my pillow, taking another sip from my drink.
Why couldn't he just leave me alone?
Usually, I wouldn't even stress about this, but If that case doesn't end up in the hands of my father, a bullet in my head is the only thing I'll have going for me.
Of course, it was all going just fine until angel face just had to make another appearance in my life like it was no big deal.
I twirled my knife between my fingers as I paced around the room.
Leo's confidence was really starting to piss me off.
He didn't even care when they were dragging him into the basement.
He didn't even care when Tyler held a gun to his head.
If its the case that he wants, then how is he so confident that that's what he's going to get? He'd have to find it first, but even before that he'd have to get out of whatever ties they put on him, get out of the basement, get past several ready-to-kill boys and Spencer! So why the hell is he so cocky!?
How does he even know that it's still here!?
I threw the knife at the dartboard hanging on the wall in front of my bed, landing it in the green area surrounding the bull's eye.
I always miss when I'm mad.
Which was usually never, but just something about this guy...
I let out a long sigh as I collapsed down onto my couch, taking another long drink.
Calming myself down was the best thing I could do at this moment.
I never think straight when I'm mad and someone usually ends up paying for it.
That someone usually being Clayton.
I leaned back against the couch, placing the soda can between my legs so that I could undo my hair.
I wanted answers and I knew that there was a sitting duck in the basement just full of them.
The thing is, this sitting duck was a lot smarter than I'd care to admit.
And judging by what I've already seen, intimidation wasn't going to work very well either.
If anything, I feel like that would just get him off more.
Not even the guys liked that part about him.
Perhaps I should wait him out for a while. For at least a couple hours.
That will give everyone the chance to calm down for a bit, and give me some time to make a fairly decent plan.
Although, out of all the guys I've had to get information out of, none of them were even close to being as shifty as Leo.
I could usually wing it without even meeting the guy first, but I knew that that wouldn't be the case for this situation.
No...
I finished off the rest of my soda, tossing the empty can into the trash as I stood up, trying to decipher little details that I could use to my advantage.
I took slow, quiet steps towards the dartboard, chewing on the nail of my pointer finger.
The only reason that I got the best of him last night was because I played with his confidence. A really shit move on my part since I didn't know how much of a threat he was to me at that point.
And I doubt I could do that again. Playing with fire was not something that I really liked doing.
All I really had to work with was the act the I put up to get what I needed.
But my act was already busted with Leo.
Then again, maybe playing with fire was exactly what I needed to do.
After all, knowing what I do, he'll only add to the flames until one of us ends up getting burned.
And the one getting burned is sure as hell not going to be me.
I sat on the edge of my bed, leaning back enough to look up at the cracked roof.
I guess if worse comes to worst, I could always hand him over to my father. I'm sure he would love to have a little chat with one of his biggest rival's little runts.
That is if my father even found him worthwhile enough for him to take.
Another sigh passed my lips as I fell back entirely onto the bed.
Whatever. The outcome is pretty much all on Leo at this point.
My only hope is that he won't piss me off enough for me to have to hurt that pretty face of his.
