I saw you for the first time today.

You got the train on at the second stop and entered the same carriage as me.

You got the last seat, directly opposite me.

You were wearing a brightly colored, rainbow jumper, such a contrast to everyone else's dark, grey clothes.

I liked that.

I also noticed the pair of dark blue headphones covering your ears, the wire snaking down into your jean pocket.

Then an old lady came on and you gave up your seat without a second thought.

A simple gesture, yet I'm sure it meant the world to her.

You were holding on to a handle above your head when the train jolted to a stop, causing you to trip.

I caught you.

I remember that you gave me a smile that was brighter than the sun and thanked me over and over.

I remember that I couldn't reply...

I hope you didn't assume me rude.

It wasn't my fault.

I couldn't reply...

Because I am deaf...
