Jona's Suspicion

             "Run!"

The dramatic cry from the tv snaps me out of my daydreaming

My eyes slightly widen at the sight of another victim getting their throats slit open with a knife by Michael Myers on the small, heavy bordeaux blood trickling down the vitcim's neck to her chest, her lace white shirt transitioning from white to a light shade of pink on the tv screen. Smoke was settled down on Jona's dark burgundy sofa, her legs spread wide open as she propped her arms behind her head, watching the horror movie play out with a stone cold expression on her face.

"Ahem," Jona's loud coughing interjects my train of thought, I rip my gaze off her, Jona stood in front of me, the frown on her lips deepening.

Jona always had that no-nonsense vibe on her. She's pretty tall and skinny for a woman. She certainly stands out, especially with her dark freckles along her pale, ivory colored skin, her silver hair was always pinned back in a morning bun, her crystal blue eyes always hid behind a frame of her wired glasses. Whenever she was babysitting Greg on weekends she would casually wear her neon blue keep calm t-shirt with some orange nautical shorts. It's like she's a mixture of a bohemian and a hippie.

Regardless, she's a pretty chill person.

"Sorry Jona, I had got caught up with work." I try to lie as she takes a small sip from her cup of green tea. She shrugs as she sets her tea down on the surface of the bookshelf next to us.

"I don't care about that," Jona shrugs, "But what sets me off is the fact that you didn't introduce your friend to me." Jona adds with a charming smile, crossing her arms assertively over her chest. I gulp. You probably shouldn't meet her, and that's for your own good Jona.

I unclench my teeth as Smoke looks at us without getting off the couch, she basically threw her head back, a disinterested look on her face as her long hair cascaded along the back of the couch. Her arms were still rested behind her head.

All of a sudden Jona pales, her charming grin was now just a straight line.

"Oh, that's Smoke." I calmly introduce. Jona narrows her eyes at Smoke who just stares at her emotionlessly. Jona lowers her gaze before turning her head towards the staircase that was at the other side of the room.

"Greg!" Jona immediately yells, distracting me and Smoke at the same time. Jona turns her head away quickly.

Heavy footsteps start to echo from upstairs, seconds later, Greg was dashing down the stairs like he was running a race. Smoke purses her lips as she stares at the ceiling as if it was going to collapse at any second. Greg hops over the last steps and scans the room for Jona.

My brother was almost as tall as me. Greg had spiky black hair that would always fall over his face, his eyes were dark hazel, like our mom's. He had a pretty lean build for a teen, if you saw him in person you'd say that he's one of those 80's metalheads who spend their time in their rooms while playing drum solos on their bed frames. He wasn't goth but he wasn't like one of those golden boys who are admired by everyone. Despite his infatuation with heavy metal, his personality sort of matches Jona's: the chill, hippie.

"Hey ugly." Greg greets me with a small smirk, he walks over to Jona before snaking an arm around her shoulder, bringing Jona closer to him.

"And where the hell have you been?" Greg asks me with a nonchalant tone. Jona raises her head, scowling at my brother. "Language." She seethed. I let a chuckle escape my lips.

"Sorry," Greg gulps, a bud of sweat running down his forehead. "Anyway, what have you been up to Kit Kat?" Greg asks, letting go of Jona and walking over to me with his hands in his pockets.

"Work." I vaguely answer. I half expect Smoke to let out a snarky laugh or say something completely rude, but she just stares at the tv.

"And who is she?" Greg asks, turning his head towards the crazy woman staring at the TV which shown a woman being brutally split in half by a chainsaw.

"A friend of mine." I answer quickly.

"Well, hey...." Greg awkwardly greets Smoke. She finally gets up from the couch and walks over to us, nothing but disinterest formed on her face.

"She isn't...really social." I finish, sneaking a glare Smoke's way. Jona lets out a small smile before picking up her drink.

Greg purses his lips, making some weird noise, and Smoke's nose turns up a bit, which was a sign that this is irritating her.

Maybe it's time to part ways. "Alright Jona, we won't keep you long." I reassure her with a large hug. Jona meekly taps her hand on shoulder and we break our hug.

"Thanks for letting me stay Jona." Greg piped in. Jona waves him off dismissively.

"It's nothing. I just need a minute to talk with your older brother." Jona suggests while eyeing Smoke, Greg nods before walking past me, Smoke gives me a look before following Greg.

Soon as the door closes. Jona folds her arms over her chest assertively, shaking her head at me.

"That girl..." Jona begun. "I have some sort of weird aura about her." She stated.

Usually I'd laugh and give Jona some sort of sarcastic remark...

A chill runs down my spine, the funny part is...she's right.

"She looks similar to that woman who illegally crossed the border to get here." Jona adds, tilting her head to the side, lowering her voice as if we weren't the only two here.

              Smoke? An illegal immigrant?

"I'd watch my back." Jona suggests, putting her finger up in a no nonsense pose.

Ever since that girl put a knife to my face, watching my back became my new daily task.
