"If Satan has to ask for permission, so do you." -Unknown
AFTER SAVING A GHOST, KILLING A werewolf that Sam had gotten feelings for, working on a movie set, being the getaway car from a prison, Emery was sick of hunting. Not only was she the one to comfort Sam after he put his lover down, she had this sick sensation in her belly. What if Dean had to do that to her? She was a monster, after all. Even if they didn't know which monster it was.
So, as Emery laid on the motel bed, Sam in the room with her, she just wanted to be done with hunting for now. Though, she knew you could never let go of the job.
Sam was talking to Dean on the phone about a cop car outside, which happened to be a false alarm, Emery sitting up and sighing as she looked at the books scattered around the beds. The two younger hunters had put their heads together and realized that they were hunting a Jinn, a genie like monster.
When Sam started saying that Dean should come and pick them up, she knew they were in big trouble. Dean always had to be an idiot.
☪✡
Emery heard the phone ring, groaning as she felt what little sleep she had slip away from her. She turned to look at her lover, who was sitting at the desk in the room, reading emails and other stuff for his work.
"Honey, who's that?" Emery called, groggily pulling herself out of the bed and pulling the shirt she was wearing closer to her body. It was cold outside of the duvet and she really wanted to cuddle up next to her boyfriend.
"The gin?" She heard as she walked up behind the man, putting her arms around him in a hug, kissing the top of his head. "You're drinking gin?"
Emery felt herself giggle, knowing exactly who was on the other line. Dean Winchester, Sam's older brother, the guy who actually introduced the two of them. It was weird, Emery and Dean had had a high school fling and at the reunion, she had met little Sammy. And well, they hit it off.
"Who, Carmen?" Sam asked, and Emery smiled and kissed Sam in the cheek. "Dean, you're drunk. You're drunk-dialling me."
There was another pause and Emery dragged the office chair out of its spot, and straddled Sam's lap, smiling up at the male she loved oh-so-much. He smiled back at her, before he was talking to Dean again. "Look, it's late. All right, just get some sleep and, um, I'll see you tomorrow, okay?"
Sam sighed after he hung up, looking at Emery before placing a kiss on her lips. He reached behind her, closing the book that had been open, before looking back at Emery's beaming face.
"Can you come to bed now?" She asked, still not getting off of Sam's lap.
"Of course, come on," Sam stated, before picking the girl up by under her thighs, walking them over to the bed that was sitting on the other side of the room. Emery was dropped on the bed, making her scream from the small drop, before she watched Sam shed his shirt and pants. She scooched over (having been dropped on Sam's side) and crawled under the covers. When Sam joined her, she cuddled up to his side and laid her head on his chest.
"Night, Sammy, I love you."
"Night, Em," she felt his lips kiss her forehead. "I love you too."
The next morning, after waking up and showering, Emery got dressed in the usual pair of jeans and the v-neck blue shirt that matched her jacket. Her Nike shoes were slipped on and she gave Sam a peck before grabbing his hand.
"You ready for a plane trip?" Emery laughed when Sam kissed her hard, stalling obviously.
"Can't we just be a little late? Mom wouldn't mind-"
"Sam Winchester, you know that that is a lie. Your mom only puts up with the fact that Dean is late all the time," Emery kissed Sam again, before grabbing his hand and dragging him behind her. "Now, come on."
After a long plane trip, Sam and Emery pulled up to Mary's house, Emery raising her eyebrows when she saw Dean sitting on the front steps, drinking a beer. The red lawnmower that Sam told Emery he hates so much was sitting not that far away.
Emery stepped out of the car, only to grunt when she got hugged by Dean.
"Emery," he breath, making the girl tense up in his arms.
"Good to see you too, Dean," the girl stated, feeling awkward. After their breakup in high school, the two barely talked except the rare occasions the Winchester family got together. Dean chuckled and Emery realized Dean's shoulder was digging into her air passage, taking away her breath. "Can't breathe."
"Sammy!" Dean stated, Sam responding with a hey. Dean patted him on the shoulder, Emery smiling at the two of them. She had a peculiar feeling that this was the happiest Dean had ever been. "Look at you! You're with-" Dean looked between the two, as if something occurred to him. "-Emery. That's- I don't believe it. Where'd you guys come from?"
"We just flew in from California," Sam explained, obviously weirded out that Dean didn't know they came from California.
"California!" Dean said a little too enthusiastically. "Stanford, huh? Law School, I bet."
"I see you started off Mom's birthday with a bang, as usual," Sam asked, noticing the beer in Dean's hand. Dean looked at him confused and Emery could see the out of place look in his eyes. Was he okay?
"Wait, mom's birthday? That's today?"
"Yeah. Yeah, Dean, that's today. That's why we're here," Sam stated, looking awkwardly at his brother. "Don't tell me you forgot."
Emery glanced at Dean again, and he had a look of surprise on his face, as well as the look of confusion. Oh no.
☪✡
Later that evening as they sat in the fancy restaurant, Emery with her hair curled and falling down her back as she sat in the nice black dress she packed. Dean's food was sat in front of him, the man looking at it before commenting on how delicious it looked. The table laughed at the words, making all of the people smile.
"All right," Sam stated, smiling with that cute little dimple smile Emery found herself adoring. "To Mom. Happy birthday."
Emery picked up her wine glass as they all cheered, the brunette stating a happy birthday to the older woman. Carmen added a cheers, as Dean stated to Mom. It was really lovely. And, a smile came upon Emery's lips as the Sam leaned in, both of them kissing in a short peck. Emery felt her smile widen when she saw Carmen and Dean exchange a kiss, making the girl feel happy. She was so glad that Dean had found Carmen. The two of them were perfect for each other.
"All right, Em and I actually have another surprise for Mom's birthday," Sam stated, before looking at Emery. "Uh, you wanna tell them?"
"Sam, they're your family," the girl retorted, before patting the male on the cheek.
"All right," Sam stated, smiling widely.
"What? Tell me what?" Mary asked, before Sam grabbed Emery's left hand, showing off the ring that was now sitting on her finger. It was beautiful with dazzling diamonds and a beautiful design. Mary laughed with joy, smiling widely. "Oh my God! That's so wonderful! Congratulations!"
Emery was smiling widely as everyone got up. After saying a thank you to Mary and hugging the older woman, she was pulled into a hug by Carmen.
"I'm so excited!" The girl stated, hugging Emery tightly as the engaged girl laughed. Next, she was pulled into and embrace by Dean, who had a confused but happy look on his face.
"I'm happy for you, Em," She felt him squeeze her tightly against his body, making the girl smile widely.
"Thanks, Dean. It means a lot. To both me and Sam, no matter how much he'll deny it."
When Mary finished talking to Sam, as well as hugging him, she walked back to Emery, where both Carmen and Mary demanded to see the ring. Emery laughed and held her hand out as she felt the two of them grab onto her hand.
Though, when they saw Dean walk away from Sam, they all stopped and stared at him with confusion.
☪✡
They all walked into Mary's house, Carmen and Emery still discussing the engagement and how the man proposed. They all walked further into the living room, before Mary turned all the attention onto herself.
"Well, I had a lovely birthday. Thank you," the woman stated and Emery smiled widely.
"Good night," Emery stated, blowing a kiss at the blonde woman, before turning to her fiancé.
"Yeah, well, I'm beat," Sam stated, after telling his mother good night. "Ready to turn in?"
"Yeah, sure," Emery stated, a smile on her face. She held out her hand as both Sam and her said good night to the other couple.
Dean's voice stopped them. "Wait a second, wait a second. Come on, it's not even nine o'clock yet. Let's go have a drink or something."
"Yeah, maybe another time," Sam declined, hugging Emery into his side.
"Come on, Man, look at us. We both have beautiful women on our arms. You're engaged. Let's go celebrate!"
"Guys, could you excuse us? I just wanna talk to my brother for a sec."
"Sure," Emery nodded, pressing a chaste kiss to Sam's lips before she turned to Dean's girl. "Come on, Carmen."
The two walked away, both discussing either one of their men. It was weird, hearing about Dean after high school. He seemed to have grown up a lot from Emery and his times of hooking up in the back of the Impala he stole from his dad to take her out. And that was a good thing. He was more responsible and Emery was happy for Carmen as she bragged about the man.
In a second, Sam was sweeping Emery up the stairs and into the guest room. When Emery was sat in bed, looking at the male that was laying beside her, she sighed, leaning over and putting her hand on his chest.
"Are you okay, Sam?" Emery asked, watching as Sam nodded, a faraway look in his eyes.
She sighed, before flipping herself into Sam's lap, him giving her a look of confusion. "Em, what are you doing?"
She leaned down and pressed a rough kiss to his lips, one he responded to right away. A second later, Emery broke the kiss, her teeth scraping Sam's skin as she kissed down his neck.
"You know, I hate it when you do this," Sam stated, his voice hoarse from his lust. Emery hummed as she sucked hard on his collarbone, knowing she had him right where she wanted him.
"But, you love it even more," her husky voice stated and that seemed to push Sam over the edge. Which means both of them were pushed into a night of rough, passionate sex, Emery's body now covered in marks that proved she was Sam's.
Emery hated waking up after sex with Sam. She was usually sore and naked and it sucked. But she loved it. She would do it every day of her life if it meant that she could keep Sam Winchester. The man she was going to marry soon. And even if they had to be quieter than usual since they were in Mary's house, she was okay with it.
The one thing she did hate: waking up alone. So, when she reached over to find Sam's side of the bed empty, she got up and pulled on her underwear and bra, pulling on Sam's discarded shirt. Emery also hated waking up to see Sam and Dean fighting and Sam on the floor.
Emery flicked on the lights to see Sam staring at Dean and Dean with Mary's good silver open. She was too groggy to actually listen, her ears picking up Dean owing someone money and something about how he's sorry that Sam and him didn't get along. It was weird and awkward and Emery sort of wished she stayed in bed.
After trying to coax Sam back to bed, she sighed, gave him a hug and a punch to the shoulder before waddling up the stairs in pain. Laying back in bed and falling back to sleep, her body still a little bit in pain.
☪✡
Emery walked in behind Sam, coming and standing beside him as the latter asked, "why'd you have to keep digging?"
"Why couldn't you have left it all alone?" Emery asked, looking at Dean with sad eyes.
"You were happy."
Mary walked up in front of Dean, looking him in the eye. "Put the knife down, honey."
"You're not real," Dean said, looking at his mother with sad eyes. It was like he was about to cry. "None of it is."
"It doesn't matter," Mary stated, looking up at her son. "It's still better than anything you had." Dean looked at her before asking her what? "It's everything you want. We're a family again. Let's go home."
"I'll die," Dean reasoned. "The jinn'll drain the life out of me in a couple of days."
"But, in here, with us, it'll feel like years. Like a lifetime. I promise. No more pain or fear. Just love and comfort and safety. Dean. Stay with us. Get some rest."
Emery stepped forward, smiling. "You won't have to worry about Sam anymore. Sure, you won't have this girl, but he'll be happy. And you get to watch him live a full life."
Carmen then walked forward, planting kiss on Dean's lips. When she pulled back, she looked at Emery, who nodded at her. "We can have a future together. Have our own family. I love you, Dean. Please."
Sam then walked forward, Carmen backing away from the brother. The younger Winchester swallowed, before he spoke up. "Why is it our job to save everyone? Haven't we done enough? I'm begging you. Give me the knife."
Dean looked face to face to face, each smiling at him and he sent them a sad smile back. Though, Dean had already made up his mind. He took a step back, tears in his eyes as he looked at his almost perfect family.
"I'm sorry."
And he shoved the blade into his stomach.
"Dean!" Emery screamed, rushing forward to her boyfriend that was hanging from a rope tied to the ceiling, looking pale and sick. "Oh my God, Dean. Wake up, please, come on."
She pressed a kiss to his lips, hoping that would jolt a response out of him. Sam was waiting behind her, looking for the Jinn or for his brother to wake up. She heard him groan, smiling as she felt relief flood her body. When he saw her, Emery swore he smiled before his hoarse voice was coming out.
"Oh, Auntie Em. There is no place like home."
"Oh, thank God. If you weren't half dead I could kill you right now," Emery glared at him. "I thought I lost you!"
"You almost did," Dean stated, before Emery yanked the medical needle out of his neck. The one that was draining him of his blood.
"Let's get you down," Sam stated from behind Emery, lightly pushing her out of the way before starting to cut the ropes binding Dean.
Though, when Dean shouted Sam's name, he was thrust into a fight with the jinn. Both Emery and him tried to fight it, but Emery was knocked down, feeling her wrist crack at the force of her landing. Next thing Emery knew, the jinn was falling to the floor, Dean having stabbed it in the back.
After they drove back to the hotel and Emery had finished fretting over Dean, the man in question was sitting on his bed, flipping through a magazine as Emery cuddled into his side. He stopped on an add for some kind of beer, staring at the girl on the page.
"Was that her?" Emery whispered, motioning to the girl.
"What?" Dean asked.
"I'm not stupid, Dean. You're eyes keeping darting between Sam and I. So, the jinn made you see me and Sam together and you got her?"
Dean looked down at the girl, his eyes a vibrant green. They were so full of emotions.
"Dean, you're not going to lose me to Sam. The guy's like my brother."
"You already kissed him once. Who's to say that you don't like it better than you like mine? Maybe there's more spark or whatever you girls like?"
Emery almost burst into laughter. "Dean, I've been pining over you since I was a teenager. I left Jo for you. I want you and only you." Dean felt a smile creep onto his face. Then the girl looked at the add, smirking at the beer girl. "Unless she somehow came into my life."
Dean shoved Emery away from him playfully, chuckling at her jab comment. When Sam hung up from his phone call, he glanced at the two of them. Then he explained how that was the hospital and how the girl they saved was alright.
Though, Emery's wrist, which was wrapped because she sprained it, hurt like a bitch.
"How about you?" Sam asked Dean. "Are you alright?"
Dean cleared his throat. "Yeah, I'm all right. You should've seen it, Sam. Our lives. You were such a wussy."
"So, we didn't get along then, huh?"
"No."
"Yeah. I though it was supposed to be this perfect fantasy."
"It wasn't. It was just a wish. Yeah, I wished for Mom to live. If Mom never died, we never went hunting. And you and me just never, uh, you know."
"Yeah. Well, I'm glad we do. And I'm glad you dug yourself out, Dean. Most people wouldn't have had the strength. They would have stayed."
"Yeah, lucky me. I gotta tell you though, man. You had... Emery. Mom was gonna have grandkids."
"Yeah, but, Dean, it wasn't real."
"I know."
"Plus," Emery chimed in. "Sam and I could never do that. It's weird. Like I can't picture it."
"But, I wanted to stay," Dean stated. "I wanted to stay so bad. I mean, ever since Dad, all I can think about is how much this job has costed us. We've lost so much. We've sacrificed so much-"
Emery felt herself get up and walk over to where Dean was leaning up against a dresser. She hugged him from the side, noticing the tears that were threatening to fall from those beautiful eyes.
"But people are alive because of you. It's worth it, Dean. It is. It's not fair and, you know, it hurts like hell, but it's worth it."
