We'd taken the bus to the ice cream shop that was further in the city than where the school was. I'd never even been to this part of the district before actually. It was actually just the outskirts of it, much farther than I thought we'd be going. I'm sure there were several ice cream shops much closer to home than we are. It was nice nonetheless. I enjoyed street style. The people here seemed to dress less bland then they do where we live. They walk freely too. Women and kids were walking alone. There were street vendors and people busking. The air was cleaner here. It felt that way anyways.

We made our way to the shop. It was just a small building attached to two others. The shop was called "Jeon's". I figured maybe it was his families then. It would make sense to come all the way here if it was then.

"Sorry I dragged you here. This is my favorite ice cream shop since my grandma owns it. I prefer coming here." He explained.

I only nodded. He led me inside. The shop had cute little tables. The selection wasn't all that large, but it wasn't unsatisfying. I eyed the green tea ice cream though.

"One scoop of green tea ice cream and-" He looked over to me to order.

"Ah- Another one scoop of green tea ice cream, please" I ordered for myself.

The man at the counter quickly got those to us. We both said our thank you's. Jungkook paid for both of them. I let him since I didn't have any money to offer up anyways. He then picked out a table for us. He chose the one closest to the door.

He got out his japanese binder. Pulling out both the worksheet we were given and the new vocabulary we received. He wrote both of our names at the top.

"Do you want to split the vocabulary then write for the words we have?" He asked.

"Sure" I shrugged.

The new vocabulary was all easy. It was all specifics and to- so on verbs. Such as instead of just saying "the floor mat" we'd now say "the straw mat" or "the bamboo mat". Or to break, to fix, to set up, etc. It was all the extra things we just really didn't have time to cover in level 2. Also just a lot words we could easily learn through experience.

"We could just write about the set up of a house, right?" He quirked a brow as he eyed the list of words.

"Yeah, that works. Want me to start it off or are you ok with starting?"

"I can, that's fine. You can just enjoy your ice cream" He smiled.

He got to work on the paper right after he said that. I got to work on my ice cream. My eyes landed on the window. Outside were still so many people. People still busking, vendors still selling various things. People still walking freely. There were also police sitting outside a mini-mart not too far from here. They seemed to just be enjoying microwaved noodles outside the store.

That could be a key factor as to why this area feels so much safer. Once I took a more in depth look around, I realized the place was swarmed with cops. They didn't seem like they were necessarily working, at least not strictly, but they definitely were all on duty.

"So why'd your family move here? Don't you know all the issues going on here?"

I tore my eyes from the outside world and back to Jungkook. I set down my just now empty ice cream cup. He continued writing, but since he asked, i'm guessing he still wants a response.

"My mom got transferred here for work. She's a doctor" I sighed.

I hated thinking about her getting transferred. Busan was my home. I'd lived there for all my seventeen years. I'd grown up with my friends there. My grandparents were there. Everything about the Busan was great. Sure, it's only a two hour train away, but I can't just go visit each day. Especially since my mom probably won't ever let me too far out of her reach.

I didn't even bother letting her know I'm out now. I especially won't mention that I'm even on the outskirts of the district. It's easier this way. She doesn't have to worry, and I can go without an earful. I love my mom to death, but I do not love these safety extremes she's going to.

"Oh that's nice" He spoke uninterestedly.

It didn't seem rude. It was more so because he was writing while listening. He was on a roll too. He's checked off all the vocab he's worked on. He was just about finished, actually.

"Can you explain to me what the guys were talking about at lunch? If it's too personal, you don't need to." I didn't want to pry.

He finished off his last sentence before sliding me the paper and his pencil. I smiled to say thank you, and grabbed his vocabulary list, since I didn't feel like getting mine out.

"A close friend of ours moved out of the city yesterday. His name's Namjoon. He didn't tell anyone. Only Jin knew, but that was because he was told in his first period. His parents were worried because their daughter had almost been kidnapped. They decided it was best to just pick up and move without spilling too much information on the fact. We're all more so upset that he isn't replying on social media, he's just gone." He explained.

He was eating away at his ice cream as he did so. He also spoke so informally towards everyone. It only lead me to think he's probably the oldest of us all. I've been talking down to him this whole time though, but he never corrected me either. There's also no point in switching my speech. I can't just ask him for his age either, considering the topic. If we're the same year, it's probably fine anyways.

I shook my head, realizing how off track I'd gotten. I realize now why everyone was so down at lunch. Of course Jungkook didn't seem down during that time though. He was teasing Yoongi, the guy next to him.

"So that's why everyone was down. I'm sorry. He really just up and left without a trace? His sister is ok though, right?" I felt bad for asking questions. So much for not prying.

"Yeah he's just gone. She's fine. I don't feel like continuing to talk about it though. I don't like this sort of thing much" He admitted.

I could only assume "this sort of thing" meant venting. That would make sense why he'd mess around then. It's probably his copy mechanism. I hope he doesn't avoid things often like this. It isn't healthy.

"No problem, sorry"

With that said, I got to work. First just reading what he already had done, and seeing how I could fit what I needed to into this. It seems to be a breeze since japanese is so easy. My only real struggle in japanese is kanji, the chinese characters. I'm not horrible with it though, so I'll still finish pretty quickly.

I glanced up at him to see him eyeing me and the paper. I smiled awkwardly, but he only looked down to his cup of ice cream. It was kind of cute. I don't see why he'd have to cover himself up. Especially because he wasn't sly about it whatsoever.

I hope to get to know him better.
