I had fourth period Japanese with the guy who was teasing the others at lunch. His name's Jeon Jungkook. He and I were the only ones in the friend group who had taken Japanese as a second language and elective. 3 of the others were only in english. The especially broad one, who I later found out is Jin, took Chinese. Either way, we're the only ones out of the six of us in this class.
He sits in the back because he prefers to work alone. He was quick to reassure me that I could be an exception to that, at first anyways. He led me to where he normally sits, and I set to the right of him. The seats were set up to have shoulder partners, just like every other classroom.
I watched Jungkook take out a binder that had sloppy kanji on it. In kanji was written "Japanese". His Kanji was cute- if that's even possible. Even his name written in katakana was adorable. He opened his binder and pushed aside the dividers. He got to his lined papers, wrote down his name in the same sloppy katakana, and wrote new vocabulary in both kanji and hiragana.
"Should I do that too?" I asked him.
"Yeah. When the teacher comes in, she'll write down a list of new words. this means new vocabulary, just so you know. You can write it down in hangul at first though. I'm sure she'll understand" He explained as he pointed to his writing.
"Thanks"
I grabbed my last empty binder. Taking a black marker from my pencil bag, I wrote Japanese in neat kanji. I placed some lined paper inside of it and on the first sheet copied down what Jungkook had. He blushed a bit and rubbed the back of his neck, seeing as I'd wrote down all that I had to in each writing style.
"Since you're taking this class, I should have figured you already knew how to write in it"
"Yeah. I was taking AP japanese reading and writing at my old school. Your school said Japanese three was the highest level I could take my junior year." I sighed.
After I'd said that it had become awkward between us. I glanced over at him and smiled a bit, he did too, but quickly looked back down to his notebook. I felt like a weirdo. Maybe saying I was in a higher level class made me sound like a smart ass. I wasn't trying to sound like that, I just thought I'd explain myself.
As soon as the instructor came in, she did exactly what Jungkook said she would. She wrote down words that I new pretty well and only a few I didn't. I jotted them all down in both hangul and japanese. Jungkook did the same. He still had the same messy yet cute penmanship, while mine was much neater and pretty.
When we were all done with that, she handed out a worksheet. We could choose to do them in a group of two-three or on our own. All it was, was writing a page where we included everything on the new vocabulary list.
I understand now why Jungkook would prefer to work alone. If all the work is this straightforward, I'd prefer to work alone as well. Well, normally I'd prefer to. Jungkook's offered to be my partner in this class. I wasn't going to throw that out the door. He's cute, I'm going to jump at the opportunity to work with and get to know him.
"So- want to go out for ice cream after class? We can finish this together at the shop." He offered.
"Sure. Right after classes?" I questioned.
He only nodded. Shooting me an adorable smile. He was so welcoming and nice. It made me feel warm inside. I felt comfortable at my new school because of this. Both Taehyung and him are so welcoming. I haven't had much experience with the others yet, but I'm sure they're just as friendly. I have no worries about fitting in here.
"Ok. Um, here's my number then. You can text me where we will meet up after school. That is if we'll both be walking?" The last part came out morel like a question.
I quickly tore off a piece of paper to scribble my number on. He took it from me and stuck it into the pocket of his uniform.
"We'll need to take the public bus. There's a stop just across the street though, so it's not out of the way. I'll pay for you since you probably don't have a student pass" He kindly offered.
Is it possible to like someone so quickly? I shouldn't since that's so cringey. He's so nice though. He's so handsome too. It's actually irritating that I can't find a single flaw in him. Then again, I've only known him for a little over an hour and a half.
"Right. Ok thanks, that would be great" I smiled cheekily.
