(45) The End

The song above was recommended to me and I have been obsessed with it ever since. It's like the theme song of this whole story and I wanted to share it to you guys too.

Thank you to the person who told me about this song! AND of course, this is THE END. Enjoy 😘

🌹

"Antonio will definitely be able to see the dozens of cars that will attack them, so to take advantage of that, we should just continue on driving and just hit anyone or anything that's in the way. Afterwards, Mat will go out first, then the rest will follow," Romeo explains as we were walking our way down the hall.

     "And you?" Mat asked back.

"Julien and I will handle Antonio," Romeo answers, then he stops walking and looks at Mat, "I promise I will avenge you my friend."

Mat doesn't say anything and just nods his head. Then we went to the front where my Dark Saints were already waiting.

"Boss," they all greeted when they saw me.

I told them that the attack on the households was successful, and we were now heading to the warehouse to attack Antonio and his men.

I told them the plan, and everyone immediately started getting inside the cars, ready to leave as soon as we say so.

"My men are ready," I tell Romeo.

Romeo nods his head and looks at the car that we'll be using to go to the warehouse.

"I'll drive," Mat says as he runs inside the car and sits on the driver's seat.

"Let's go," I say as I was about to get inside the car too, but Romeo suddenly grabbed my hand and pulled me towards him. When I was close enough, Romeo suddenly kissed me on the lips.

I was surprised, but after a while, I kissed him back.

When we pulled away from each other, Romeo whispered, "I love you."

I looked at him confusingly, but Romeo kisses my forehead instead and continues, "I want to grow old with you. Which means I don't want you to die tonight."

I looked at him seriously and gently touched his cheeks, "I will die beside you. But that will not be tonight. I promise."

I kissed Romeo this time, and then I ran to the car and got in.

Romeo was about to follow me inside when suddenly we saw Elizabeth running towards us.

Romeo stopped and slowly turned around to look at her. When Elizabeth was finally in front of her son, she suddenly grabbed him for a hug.

Romeo's eyes were wide from shock. He looked stiff as his mother hugged him for the first time since he first left this household when he was sixteen.

Elizabeth still doesn't say anything as they parted from the hug.

Romeo looked at her, his eyes still wide from his mother's sudden action.

Elizabeth looked like she was about to shed some tears too, but she clenches her fist and says instead, "Avenge your father."

Before Romeo could even say anything, Elizabeth quickly runs off.

     Romeo stood there, stunned.

I gave him a couple of seconds before finally calling him out.

Romeo flinched, then he quickly turns around and looks at me. When he saw my face, he blinks and takes a deep breath, like he finally went back to the real world.

He nods his head, and then he goes inside the car and closed the door.

"Let's go," Mat says as he starts the engine and drives off first, the rest of the cars driving behind us.

     The drive was silent.

I looked out the window as Romeo did the same on the other side.

As I was looking at the dark sky through the window, I suddenly imagined the amount of dead men that I will be witnessing tonight. But somehow, if it was even possible, I felt nothing as I imagine the blood that will flood the floor of that warehouse.

I wasn't scared, and I wasn't excited either. I wasn't too confident that we would win, but I wasn't too nervous that we would lose.

I have been in different wars. I have been there when we achieved victory and even total defeat. I have seen my brother's die one by one through my own eyes. But like those devastating times, I felt nothing.

I took a deep breath and glanced at Romeo, but the moment my eyes fell onto him, my beating heart almost stopped.

Romeo was closing his eyes, trying his best to easy his breathing.

I stared at him clenching his fist while his other hand gripped on his father's gun. And finally, my emotions flooded me.

Looking at Romeo made me feel nervous, afraid, and even worried.

This was the first time that I felt scared to die. And this was the first time that I was scared that someone would die.

It was only now that I have finally realized that we will be heading to a place where we might never see tomorrow anymore. I have finally realized why Romeo pulled me and kissed me earlier before we left. He did what he did because the feeling that I am feeling right now, was the same feeling that Romeo has been feeling too.

How could I be so blind?

Death has never scared me. But now it feels like death is my greatest fear.

"Romeo," I called out as I looked at him.

Romeo quickly opens his eyes and looked back at me as well, "What is it? Is something wrong?" he asked me.

I don't say anything and just moved closer to him.

When we were finally touching each other, I leaned my head on his shoulder and gripped on his free hand.

"Shakespeare did not write our story," I suddenly tell him, but he didn't seem surprised on my sudden words.

I felt him tightening his hold on my hand as I continued, "So we will not die like Romeo and Juliet."

Romeo nods his head, like he agreed to what I said.

I was about to say something else when Mat suddenly looked at us through the rearview mirror and said, "We'll see how your story ends because we're here."

I quickly let go of Romeo's hand to look out the window.

It was dark, and we were like in an abandoned junkyard that was surrounded by abandoned factories.

"Where's the warehouse?" I asked, then Mat pointed forward and answered, "Right there. If what Jiyong said was correct."

"Alright, I'll message Jiyong and the other's and ask them to head here immediately," I say as I took my phone and messaged everyone like what I told Mat.

While we were driving fast, someone suddenly shoots our left tire, making the car swerve to the side.

"Shit!" I heard Mat shout as he quickly pulled the handbrake.

I closed my eyes and gripped on Mat's headrest as the screeching of the tires burned my ears.

When Mat successfully stopped the car, the cars behind us immediately drove pass us to head to the warehouse while some stopped behind us.

Romeo looked at me, then he gripped on my cheeks and kissed me before shouting, "Let's go!"

Romeo went out of the car as Mat and I immediately followed. The moment we were out of the car, the rest of the Dark Saints followed too.

Well, looks like we need to change our plans.

"Head to the warehouse! Attack and show no mercy!" I shouted at my men as they started running towards the warehouse where the rest of the Dark Saints were.

I quickly opened the trunk and saw the guns that Mat packed for us

I quickly scanned the stash then decided to just get two Neue Pistol Hudson H9As. Both guns have fifteen bullets. It might look like it's not enough, but believe me, it is.

We could see the warehouse from where we were, and we could hear the loud gunshots and explosions.

I gulped and looked at Romeo and Mat.

We nodded at each other before running to where the traumatizing sound was.

The moment we arrived at the scene, the word chaos almost felt like it wasn't enough to describe what we were currently seeing.

Everyone was shooting each other. Some were lifeless on the ground while others were screaming in agony.

"We need to find Antonio!" Romeo shouted so we could hear him through the noise.

"Alright! I'll handle it here! You and Julien should go ahead!" Mat shouted back at us, but before Romeo could even answer, Mat runs off to join the others.

Romeo looks at me, but the moment he looks back at me, someone behind him shoots him on the shoulder.

"Romeo!" I shouted as I quickly pushed him away to shoot the man behind him.

With one look, I pulled the trigger and shot him right on his forehead. Then I pushed Romeo down so we could hide behind huge barrels. Away from the eyes of the men who are targeting their old godfather.

"They're attacking you! Are you okay?!" I say as I looked back at Romeo's bleeding arm.

Romeo doesn't react much as he grabbed his handkerchief and tied it around his wounded arm.

"It's only a scratch," Romeo simply says. Then he peeks and starts shooting his own Valentino men who betrayed him. Like me, Romeo had two extra guns, while his father's gun was tucked in his pants.

I wanted to tell Romeo to just take cover, but I helped him instead.

After shooting as many men as we could, Romeo and I hid behind the barrels again to reload, and then I looked at Romeo and said, "Romeo, we'll be wasting our bullets if we stay here. My men can handle this, we need to find Antonio."

Romeo wanted to protest, but he nods his head and immediately stood up, making me follow him.

"Cover us!" I told my men as Romeo and I started running towards the warehouse.

My men immediately went to our sides to shoot anyone who decides to attack us.

"Make sure no one gets inside the warehouse!" I shouted at them again.

When we finally arrived inside the surprisingly empty warehouse, Romeo and I immediately hid behind an old car just in case.

"There's too many of them outside, are you sure that we should-"

I quickly stopped Romeo and whispered back, "Jiyong and the others will arrive soon. What we need to worry about is-"

I was immediately cut off when someone suddenly shot my hand, quickly making me let go of the gun that I was holding.

"Julien!" Romeo shouted. But I quickly pushed him away as another bullet hit the spot where Romeo was just in a few seconds ago.

     "Run!" I shouted at him.

Romeo looked like he was hesitating, so I stood up and ran on the opposite direction. Romeo had no choice so he ran away as well.

I quickly hid under another car and looked at my bleeding hand.

I silently cursed and took a broken mirror on the side to help rip my shirt. Then I took the cloth and quickly wrapped it around my hand.

I took a deep breath and used the mirror to find who was shooting us. On the second floor, I saw Dario Alfonso hiding behind a gas tank. It would be smart to shoot that gas tank, but since he's hiding there, I'm pretty sure he knows those tanks are empty.

"Where could Romeo be?" I asked as I looked around, but I couldn't see where Romeo was at all.

     "Fuck."

I let go of the mirror and quickly went out of the car.

The moment I stood up, Dario went out and started shooting me too.

I ran as fast as I could, trying to dodge the bullets that Dario was lousily shooting at me.

"You call that shooting?!" I shouted at him, trying my best to provoke him.

When he looked a little annoyed, I took it as an opportunity to look back to shoot him. And with just one look, I pulled the trigger and shot the side of his stomach.

Dario shouted in agony, then someone on the left shot him on the shoulder.

"Romeo!" I shouted, finally seeing him.

Dario fell on the floor, then Romeo pointed upstairs and both of us ran to where Dario was.

"Y-you fucker!" Dario shouted at me as he sees me approach him.

Then Romeo arrives and looks at him too.

"Not very smart to be alone here Dario," Romeo says as he kicks Dario's gun away and points his own gun at him next.

I immediately looked around and positioned my gun in case someone suddenly pops out and shoots us. It was pretty obvious that the warehouse was empty, but it's better to be safe than sorry.

"I always hated you, and I genuinely thought you hated the Valentino Family too. But who would have known that you'd be sided to one," Romeo continued.

Dario was now coughing blood as he looked at us, "W-We don't have...e-enough men. N-Nor do w-we have...resour...resources. I-It was clear...t-that we would be...de-feated."

"Then why still side with Antonio?!" Romeo angrily shouted at him.

     "I...I l-love Elizabeth...I-It was...the o-only way...to m-make sure...A-Antonio spares...h-her," Dario struggled to say, shocking us.

"Lies!" Romeo angrily shouted again, trying his best not to shoot Dario already.

"I loved her!" Dario shouted with all his might, his blood still oozing out of his mouth.

"B-but she called out...C-Claudio's name...all the f-fucking time," Dario says, then he starts laughing.

"Antonio...he's at the office on the...f-far end," Dario says to us.

Romeo and I looked at each other.

     "I-It's not a trick...we...we know...we a-already know...that we l-lost," Dario continued.

I thought Romeo was going to shoot Dario, but instead, he puts his gun down and says, "I will spare you...because even with all the shit that you did, Diana grew up to be a great woman," Romeo tells him. Then Romeo nods his head, and we start walking away. But as soon as we walked away, we heard a loud gunshot.

I quickly turned around and looked back at Dario. My eyes widened when I saw him lifeless on the floor, a different gun on his hand.

Even though Romeo spared him, Dario ended up killing himself.

"W-why?" I asked as I stared at him with shock.

Romeo quickly grabs my arm and says, "We gave him a chance; but he ended it. Now let's go before Antonio escapes."

I stared at Dario for the last time before following Romeo to the room where Antonio would be in.

We stopped in front of the door and looked at each other.

I smirked as Romeo leans forward to kiss me. Then, he kicks the door open, revealing Antonio peacefully sitting on a chair with an intravenous tube on his hand.

"So it is you," Antonio says, not even moving from where he was seated.

I looked at Antonio confusingly, but then I remembered that Jiyong's men attacked him a few days ago, and he practically just woke up from a coma. He has no strength to even fight us.

"So you really have accepted defeat," I say as Romeo and I approached him. But we still didn't put our guns down. Antonio has done so many dirty tricks; I don't trust him at all.

"I'll hand it to you Romeo. I really thought you were stupid like your parents. Sadly you're like your grandfather, which was why I hated you even more," Antonio calmly explains.

He coughs for a second before looking back at us, "I'm dying, and I'm sure my death is what almost everyone wants to witness. I betrayed many people, but I did what I had to do to gain the power that your grandfather, my own father, had selfishly denied to me."

"My father was the rightful godfather to the Valentino Family," Romeo tells him, making Antonio laugh.

"You have no idea don't you," Antonio says as he stops laughing.

"Doña Victoria...she was the mistress, my mother was the legal wife. At that time my mother couldn't bare a child, so my father ended up having a child with Victoria, and that was your pathetic father Claudio. But a year after, I was born, and since I was the son of the legal wife, I was supposed to be the heir. But my father said I was greedy. He said Claudio was a better son to him than I will always be. So he divorced my mother and married his mistress" Antonio explained, but I wasn't even that shocked.

This was what happened with Jiyong and me. Maybe not exact, but somehow similar.

Jiyong was supposed to be the head of the gang, but since I was the son of the legal wife, I ended up being the head, not him.

"And he was right. My father was a better godfather than what you would have been," Romeo bravely said, and for the first time, Antonio didn't look calm anymore.

"Family affairs are a lot more complicated Romeo. You kill brothers and fathers and mothers and sisters just to have what your own family can't even grant you. I did what I did, and I'm sure you will too if you were-"

"Don't compare yourself to me because I will never do what you disgustingly did," Romeo angrily said as he walked closer to Antonio, "I am not like you Antonio, because not like you, I desperately hate this family. The greatest mistake life has ever given me was to make me a Valentino."

Romeo takes out his father's gun and points it at Antonio's head.

"You forced my mother to kill my own father. You killed the man I considered family. You tortured Jiyong, used his men to hurt Julien. You turned my own men against me. And you even raped Mat's mother!" Romeo shouted, tears forming in his eyes. But he made sure not to make the tears fall, especially when he's in front of Antonio.

"All these people were victims of your greed. But it's time for you to face your end," Romeo says, reloading his gun.

"Killing you is like showing mercy. But I don't want to be selfish. I'll let my father, Mat's mother, and Johnson, take care of you in the afterlife," Romeo says as the gun now touched Antonio's forehead.

"You know you'll regret this," Antonio confidently says, but Romeo doesn't say anything.

"You killed so many mafia leaders Romeo. Others will come after you. So this might be the end for me, but this is only the beginning for you," Antonio continued.

Romeo didn't look fazed as he smirked and said, "Then let them come. Because like you, this is what they will face."

     Antonio's eyes widened.

He thought he was able to scare Romeo, but Romeo wasn't the little boy who kept on hiding anymore. This was Romeo Valentino, the chairman and the once godfather of a very powerful family.

This was a powerful man that Antonio did not foresee.

And finally, Antonio looked genuinely afraid of him.

I told Romeo that when Antonio faces his end, the last thing that Antonio should see is his strength. I'm glad that he made sure that it would happen.

"W-Wait...Romeo let's talk," Antonio now started begging. But Romeo only chuckled; glad that he was able to see his uncle look pathetic.

Romeo glances at me first before looking back at Antonio and saying, "As a traditional mafia. A brother who betrays his family...is sentenced to death," and without hesitation, Romeo pulled the trigger, blood quickly splattering the wall behind Antonio.

I stared at Antonio's lifeless body fall down from the chair.

I felt nothing for him. Not pity, not hatred, not anything. Antonio doesn't deserve any emotions from me. Because he felt nothing when he did what he did to my brother, and to the rest of the people that he hurt.

"Romeo..." I called out when I looked at him.

Romeo doesn't say anything and suddenly lets go of his gun.

I walk towards him and gently held his shoulder. He looks back at me, surprising me because there were actually tears in his eyes.

"Romeo?" I asked, touching his cheeks.

Romeo takes a deep breath, then, he starts smiling as he said, "It's done. We did it...we did it Julien!"

I finally smiled as I immediately draped my arms around Romeo and hugged me. Romeo carried me and hugged me tightly as we both laughed.

Then the door slams open, revealing Mat, Eric, and Jiyong.

Romeo immediately puts me down, and then Mat and the others looked at Antonio who was lifeless on the floor.

"H-He's dead?" Mat asked from shock.

Romeo and I looked at each other and smirked.

Jiyong starts laughing, then Eric and Mat followed.

     It was done.

Antonio, the real monster, is finally dead. Romeo and I went down and saw our men's victory as well.

The war that has been ongoing for years was finally over.

     Everyone rejoiced.

Romeo and I stood in front of everyone while the people who we now consider family as well, stood beside us. Matthew Luca, the old friend, Eric Kwon, the loyal soldier, and Kim Jiyong, the man who I now realize, was the real head of the Dark Saints. Because like Claudio, Jiyong will be a better head than I will ever be.

Romeo looks at me, then, he holds my hand and intertwines our fingers together. We didn't say anything to each other, but our smiles and the relief on our faces was the only thing we had to show to know what the two of us were thinking.

"So what now?" Mat asked as he moved closer to us.

"I want to rest. Like...a real rest," Romeo answered.

Jiyong joins in and stood on the other side, "You just read my mind Don Romeo."

"Its Chairman Val now," Romeo corrected.

"Alright, alright, I respect that," Jiyong says with a smirk. Eric joins in too and looks at us, "So that's it. All that bullshit just for this moment."

I looked at Eric and answered, "Well I couldn't think of any other ending except this one."

"Agreed," Mat says. Then he looks at the sun that was actually rising in front of us. Romeo and the rest of us followed, staring at sunrise like it was a sign that this was our new beginning.

But what Antonio said still lingered in my ears. This was his end, but this was our beginning.

Romeo just ended the most powerful Mafia Family and killed the rest of its household. Romeo broke the chain that has been strongly holding the families. And I know that someday...

     Maybe not today...

     But someday...

We will face another problem again, and maybe even greater than what we faced now. But this time, Romeo and I won't be weak like how we were when we started.

This time, we will fight, and they will remember our story.

     They will remember...Romeo & Julien's story.

The story of how it painfully began.

     And how it victoriously ended.
