This Is Nice
Metropolis Hospital, Room 8B
7:01a.m.
{Jonathan}
"Oh man..." I groan softly.
"What's wrong?" Bruce ask.
"Around this time is when my parents usually wakes up..." I said. "I never told them that I'd be here." I said.
"Why?" He ask curiously.
"Because I know their answer if I do ask. They want me to rest, but I clearly had enough." I said.
"Hmm... really?" He ask in a teasing tone.
"Yes." I said.
"Then why were you asleep when I came in? You didn't even notice I was here until I said good morning." He smirk the smirk Damian would usually do if he's winning an argument.
"Actually I don't know... it's weird because, I was fine before I entered the room... but then, all of a sudden, I became so tired that I couldn't keep my eyes open. So I slept." I said.
"You're just tired, Jonathan. You're still young... and young people needs plenty of rest compared to adult. Especially ones who had just survived a horrifying disaster. It's completely normal." He said. "How are you now? Still tired?" He ask. I roll my eyes three hundred and sixty degrees for three times and stop, checking if I'm still tired. I'm not anymore.
"No... I feel fresh, actually. Not like the full-sleep fresh but the I-just-had-a-nap fresh." I said.
"I see." He nods. "Dont worry, I'll handle your parents if they come after your tail." He chuckle.
Whoa.... He chuckled?? This is so... unreal!!
"T-thank you..." I said, trying to sound calm. He scoff in a friendly tone as he settles down and exhale slowly.
The sound of the conditioner blowing, the beeping in the monitors, the traffic outside, the footsteps of people walking outside the room and many filled the atmosphere.
"We've never had a chance to just talk like regular people before huh..." I said, interrupting the silence.
"Yes... it's always about missions or League business." He said.
"This is nice, actually." I said, smiling. "Yeah it is. He said. "Your parents raised you well... you're one of a kind, Jonathan." He said. "I'm glad my son has a friend like you." He said smiling back at me.
I felt my cheeks burning because I just received a compliment from Batman.
Honestly, it's the other way around. I should thank him for bringing a wonderful human being into this world... even if the process was done in a very wrong way with Talia.
I felt like even Bruce Wayne needs a friend sometimes. Not aquiantences or teammates.
"You do too... friend." And I'm gonna be that friend for now. I know someday, he'll have many more real friends. I held my fist out for a fist bump.
"Friends." He said, returning the fist bump with a smile.
"Come, let's get something to eat in the cafeteria. My treat." He said, standing up.
My treat... I'm seeing so many similarities of Damian from Bruce which is both scary and funny.
"Sure, I'm hungry, actually." I said, standing on my feets. He began walking towards the door and I followed him from behind. We got out of the room and headed straight to the elevator.
The first floor, Metropolis Hospital's Cafeteria. I've never seen the hospitals cafeteria before. It's actually pretty nice.
The floor was made out of shiny gray marble, circular lights in many sizes hung from the ceiling, the walls were decorated with many greenery, and full length windows with a magnificent view of a fountain behind it, and many tables and chairs arranged around the area. Since it was early, there weren't many shops open yet. Also, there weren't many people there either. There was only one shop that was Starbucks Coffee.
Bruce ordered a hot cappuccino with cinnamon sprinkles on the foam and a chocolate chip doughnut. I ordered only a hot chocolate because I didn't want to make it seem like I'm taking advantage when someone treats me.
"Any food?" He ask.
"No it's okay. Just the latte will do." I said.
"Oh come on, don't be shy. Choose anything." He said, gesturing towards the food selections. I remembered mom and dad telling me that I should not refuse people when they offer something nice to me. Not for the sake of being greedy, but for the sake of being polite by accepting their gift... whether I like it or not.
"Alright. If you insist..." I said, looking through the food choices.
"Can I have the mac and cheese?" I ask, hoping I didn't ask too much.
"Sure..." he told me before confirming our order to the cashier.
We brought our food and drinks to a table that was placed next to the window. Behind the window was a view of the hospital's fountain surrounded by nature. We took a seat and enjoyed our meal, at the same time, making conversations.
Hours later....
"Really?? My dad played a bad cop instead of good???" I ask, laughing.
"Yup. No offence but he's really bad at it." Bruce said, chuckling. "The moment he ask to be the bad cop, I knew it's going to be a disaster... but regardless, I gave him the bad cop role. I don't know why though." He said, sipping his coffee.
"So? Who managed to get the information from Deadshot?" I ask, chewing my mac and cheese.
"Me, of course. Playing the good cop, I only offered him coffee and doughnut... with a smile...
and he spilled the information." He said.
"Wow... impressive." I said. "Thanks." He replied. "It's funny how you're eating a chocolate chip doughnut right now." I said, chuckling.
"What kind I say... I'm a fan of chocolate flavours." He said. "Same here!" I said.
"Now, let's talk about you and Damian." He said, putting his coffee aside and holding his hands.
"Oh? Sure." I said.
"How is he?" He started off.
"What do you mean? Like... his health? Behaviour? Or??" I ask, confused.
"Everything. During the day, he's always away from the Manor and he never tells us where he's going or what time will he be back..." he said.
"Oh.... well, I guess he's with me. During and after school. My home is like his second home. As I mentioned earlier, everyday, he would just come over and perform his regular activities like playing with his phone, or working on his homeworks and assignments or the both of us will be spending time together." I said.
"Why does he always spends time with you? Not that I'm against it, no... I'm just, curious." He said.
I don't know... I've never been asked that before so honestly, I don't know.
"I don't know... maybe he's just bored of at home?" I guessed.
"Or maybe... there's something, more... between the two of you." He got suspicious.
Bruce's tone started getting a little suspicious... and it's bad. Is he going to find out about... us? I felt a drop of sweat rolling down my head. I wanted to say something but I'm panicking on the inside which makes it hard to find my words.
"Jon... are you and Damian, a----
He instantly stopped talking the moment we caught something from the corner of his eyes. We turn to see multiple nurses rushing up the stairs instead of using the elavator.
"What's happening??!" I panic. From a distance, I notice a familiar nurse running towards us. Monica.
"Bruce Wayne, Jonathan!" She stopped in front of us, catching her breath.
"Hey hey, Monica, calm down... what going on? Is everything alright?" Bruce ask, standing to his feets.
"Yes, and no! It's Robin!! He's up but he's acting really strange!" She said, panting.
"Damian...." I shook. Batman turns to look at me.
"It's time!"
