Make Peace
Atlantis
Royal Throne Room
Time - Sunset
{Damian}
Aquaman's here.
That also means... father and the others are here as well... just directly above Atlantis, floating over the surface, waiting in the Batjet.
Mera and I have swum past the floors and made it straight to the throne room where Aquaman was waiting. He turns around to face us as soon as he notices us nearby.
"My queen." He held his free hand out to reach Mera's. As she took his hand, he pulled her in for a gentle hug.
"I missed you." She said.
Not going to lie, seeing them hug, reminded me of how much I'm missing Jon's arms around my body. The way we held each other like there's not going to be another tomorrow... our skin touching as we inhaling the smell of each other...
I miss him.
"Robin," Aquaman calls out to me as Mera releases him. "Good to see you're safe."
"Thank you," I responded. "Is father and the others here as well?"
"They're waiting for us over the surface in the Batjet." He said as he aimed his trident towards the exit. "You ready to do this?"
"To get my legs back?" I ask.
"Yes," Mera responded as she looks at me.
My eyes traveled from Mera's to Aquaman's and then towards the gate, outside the city of Atlantis and then towards the surface. It's nearly sunset because the bright orange-red sky was reflected by the gentle waves dancing according to the water patterns.
My ordinary human life is just outside these waters and my life under the sea is about to come to an end.
Besides the fact that I really want to see Jon, am I really ready to leave the waters yet? Though I'm not exactly an expert at being a Siren, it felt peaceful being one... excluding meeting Zayka. There are no responsibilities under here, no commitments... nothing. But that also means there are no good things which land does such as entertainment and comfortable places.
Am I ready to get back to the life of Robin? Who fights crime, be a sidekick to Batman and just be a student in school?
What happens if I do decide to stay a siren for a while longer? Other than the fact that I'll be at peace for not doing anything, I'll never get to see my friends and family. Once upon a time, Damian Al Ghul didn't have friends or family. Just a mother who couldn't care less about him and an empty heart. But now, Damian Wayne has both... something that he always wanted from the bottom of his heart but never been able to say it for he doesn't want to look soft.
But that's all he ever wanted.
Not only that, but he also has someone to call my own. That's something he never thought he would have. Even Mera was shocked.
If I stay, will I make new friends under the sea? Friends with fins, gills, scales, or whatever? Do I really want that?
I don't know. At least, I don't know yet.
"Damian?" Mera places her hand on my shoulder, bringing my senses back. "You're alright?"
"Yeah, I'm just thinking," I replied. "Just... thinking.
"Share with me." She said. "Maybe I can help."
"I don't think this is something anyone could help me with," I replied.
"Try me." She said confidently.
With deep breaths of waters, I face the king and queen. "I've been waiting for this day to come... where I can return home as a human." I said. "But, there's something in me that's not at peace."
"I don't know why but I just can't decide."
"If you want to stay a siren or return back as a human?" She asks.
I nodded, staring at my tail fin moving back and forth.
"Could it be the fact that you're not at peace is because you have unfinished business here in the sea?" Aquaman came in the picture.
"An unfinished business?" I raise my head to meet his eyes.
"Yes." He said. "Is there something here in the sea, that has left you with a heavy heart?"
"A heavy heart?" I started thinking. "The only creatures I ever talked to was a dolphin and a whale."
"The whale was killed and the dolphin? Iruka... we had an argument to which led her leaving my side."
"I see." He smiles. "Then, Damian, I guess she's your unfinished business."
"You feel like you can't leave the sea because you haven't made peace with the only friend you've made in the sea."
"It seems like Iruka's special to you, Damian," Mera said. "Maybe you should see her one last time before you leave."
"How?" I ask. "She's mad at humans who pollute the oceans and she thinks I'm one of them."
"It's just a big misunderstanding." She said. "Maybe if you clear it up with her, you'll both be at peace before saying goodbye."
"Do you think she's not in peace as well?" I ask.
"I'm sure she's not, Damian." She replied. "You both are good friends... and when one makes the other feel bad, they will feel twice as bad after a while."
"Maybe you're right." I stare down at my tail again.
Iruka... maybe if I see you one last time, apologize to you... maybe I'll feel a little better to leave, knowing we're good.
"You want to see her?" Mera asks
I lift my head up, shocked by her question.
"How?" I ask. "She left me a while ago... God knows where she is right now."
"You can use the portal," Aquaman suggested to Mera.
"Right." She agreed with him.
"What portal?" I ask
"The trident has the power to open up portals in front of the object we intend to be with." She said. "Meaning, if you want to see Iruka, as we did with the Echo Globe, you just have to say her name, and the portal will open which will lead you straight to her."
"But, will the portal lead us to a wrong Iruka?" I ask. "There could be so many more creatures out there with the name Iruka."
"How will the trident know which Iruka I would want to see?"
They both started chuckling like I've said something stupid.
"Every creature in the sea is unique," Aquaman said. "Every single one of them, has a unique name that no other creature would match anyone."
"So, Iruka is the only dolphin with that name?" I ask.
"Exactly." Mera smiled.
"If so, then why was it so hard to catch Zayka?" I asked.
"We tried many times," Aquaman said. "But he is very cunning. He is fast to swim away before we even get out of the portal. Every time we do, all we see is a vague image of his tail swimming away."
"Zayka's fast huh..." I wondered.
Whoa... the sea has billions of creatures with no matching names as other creatures. How does the sea produce so many different names for every single creature? That is just mind-blowing to know.
"If that's the case, then yes, I want to see her."
"Very well," Mera said. "Arthur, you know what to do."
"I'll follow you for protection," Mera said. "And also to reopen the portal back to Atlantis."
"Sure," I said.
"Arthur, as I've called you here for," Mera said as she made the bubble with his scale in it appeared with her powers. "I think you know what to do with this. It'll expose Zayka's whereabout."
"He met Damian a while ago and he didn't realize he left a big clue to lead us right to him."
"Neptune..." Aquaman said as he studies the bubble. "This is incredible."
"After all these years, he's finally going to be at the mercy of my trident."
"Though you are confident that you'll catch him this time, do not... underestimate him." She warned her king in a stern tone. "Bring along the kingdoms best guard with you. I do not want you to go alone."
"If that's what you want, I shall do it, Mera." He said.
"Good." Her gentle smile returned.
"Are you ready?" He asked.
"Damian?" Mera turned back as she held her hand out.
"Yes," I said as I took her hand and swam forward to Aquaman.
He held the trident with both hands as he closes his eyes. In no time, magic from the sharp points of the trident started flowing out and opening a huge portal in front of us.
I dipped my finger through the portal but it felt like I touched a wall. there was nothing on the other side of the portal.
"Say her name." Mera reminded me.
"Right, right." I forgot. "Iruka."
The portal began changing its shade and as it does, it showed an image of open waters that had many creatures swimming everywhere.
But there's something wrong with this. They're swimming but they don't look... normal.
Maybe I was just being paranoid. I looked at Mera and she was all ready.
"Let's Go."
