Go Home Sweetie

Metropolis Hospital
12:02a.m.

{Jonathan}

Not a single movement in his body. I could only hear his heart beating. Nothing else. I lift my head and wipe my face dry.
"Do you think he's going to be ok?" I ask Monica, who was standing next to me.
"I can't tell for sure, Jonathan." She replied. "You know, he asked me the exact same question when you were the patient... And you know what I told him?" She pause. "I told him to have hope... because hope is one of the most powerful element anyone can poses whether they're men, woman, mortals, non mortals, disabilities, whatever... and that's what he did." She continued. "This boy right here, had hope that you will wake up, and you woke up at the end of the day. So now, it's your turn to do the same for him." She smiled at me.
"But... how does one poses hope? I mean, what must I do?" I ask. "For now, what you can do is be strong for the both of you." She said. "His body may be out but he hears everything." She continued. "Why... he's even hearing us at this very moment." she said, smiling at Damian.
      He is?
"If you want to tell him something, anything, go right ahead. He hears you." She said. "I want to tell him that I... I'm sorry." I said, swallowing a sob. "I'm very sure he doesn't blame you for this honey. Damian is a smart boy... he knows who and when to point fingers at." She said.
"He should point at me... I have powers and he doesn't. I could've saved him but instead, I was knocked out the first... some hero I am." I said, tearing.
"Nobody's perfect Jonathan. Nobody. We all, have our own weaknesses, flaws, mistakes and many more. It gives us an opportunity to choose either to learn from it, and become the better versions of ourselves, or run from it and stay the way we are. We are all the same... we're not machines." She said.
I don't know what to say... more specifically, I don't know what to choose. I just stare at the ground with my eyes tracing random patterns on it.
"Go home sweetie. Get some rest. You clearly need some after what happened today." Monica said, placing her palms on my shoulders.
"But... is my home still standing? Wasn't it hit by the tsunami?" I ask. "Apparently no. The heroes managed to save half of our city... your parents and I were talking earlier back, while you were still out... they asked when could they take you home. So I'm assuming your home, hasn't been washed down." She said. "I could be wrong but whatever home they mentioned, I'm sure it's a place where you can rest." She said. My eyes lowered down to the floor and then towards Damian on the bed. As my palm lightly ran down his shoulder to hand, tears began to form and as my chin shivers.
"When can I come back to see him?" I turn my head to Monica.
"Anytime sugar." She said without even blinking. "Anytime?" I repeated. "Anytime." She assured. "Whether it's in the early a.m. or dawn of day, you're welcome back anytime. He could use a little company don't you think?" She smile.
"Tears roll out of my eyes and onto my cheeks as I turn my head back to his body. "I'll be back..." I told him in my head, hoping he can hear my mind voice.
"Ok, thank you, Monica." I said, inhaling a deep breath and wiping the tears away.
"No problem." She said, rubbing my back. "Come on, I'll bring you back to your parents." She said, gesturing towards the exit just before walking towards it. I look at Damian over my shoulders one last time, and followed her out of the room.
Ones we were out, she switched off the lights in the room, accept for one which was shining down directly above the bed.
"A little night light won't hurt." She smile. "Come." She and I started walking.
As we walk back in silence, I began wondering why the hospital is so, quiet. A tsunami just happened. Shouldn't the hospital be crowded with injured people?
"Hey, why's the hospital like a ghost town? Shouldn't there be a lot of injured people? Especially after a natural disaster took place?" I ask.
"Oh trust me honey, they're ALL, in the fifth floor and below. We're in the 8th floor, the highest floor which is also the department for non human patients like yourself." She replied.
"Then why is Damian here? He's full human." I was curious.
"Yes we are fully aware of that. We were supposed to place him with the others but given to this toxin in him that contains black magic, we can't risk it spreading to other patients. So we had to treat him here." She said. "Besides, he is a hero, regardless if he's human or not... so, he deserves to be in this floor." She concluded.
"Yeah... you're right." I replied under my breath.
"Superman, Lois, your son is ready to go home." Monica said, as we entered the room where mom and dad was waiting. I noticed that dad is wide awake while mom fell asleep on his lap. I was about to wake mom up, giving a call but then dad stopped me.
"No... It's okay, bud... let her sleep. She's had a long day. Trust me." He said softly.
"Thank you so much again, Monica." My dad held his hand out for a hand shake.
"No problem Superman." She accepted his hand.
They release their handshake and dad slowly lifts mom in his arms without waking her up. He then looked at me.
"Jon, could you open the window please." He ask.
I walked over to the window and push it open. Dad got off his feet and flew out, and waited for me. I hesitated to fly again but I didn't have a choice so I took a deep breath and focused on my powers.
In no time, I was in the air. I flew out of the window and float next to my dad. He took off first and I waved goodbye at Monica, just before I took off myself.
I took this time to look around city infront and below me. Monica was right. Half the city is still in tact... while the other half is in complete destruction. I spot many heavy lifters such as The Lantern Corps, Atlantians, Amazonians, and Thanagarians helping out in the city. I'm sure the city will return back to it's beautiful self in no time with their help.
We're home. I flew in my room and crash onto my bed, burying my face in pillows. My head is still spinning but it's bearable.
"Knock knock..." my dad said, standing with his head sticking in the room. I lift my head and sat up.
"Can I come in?" He ask. "Yeah." I said. He entered the room and took a seat next to me. He didn't speak for a while. I wanted to ask him why he came here but before I could, his big muscled arms were around me.
"Dad?" I ask with my face squeeze in his shoulder.
"I thought I'd almost lost you today." He said softly. By the sound of his voice, I can tell that he was crying. Hearing my parents cry, makes me feel really sad because I do not like seeing them in such situations. I return the hug.
      "It's okay, I'm alive pa." I said.
"Yes, my boy. My strong little boy." He said, stroking the back of my head.
After a while of hugging, he let go of me and wipe his tears away. "You know, eventually someday, you'll have to let me protect myself, by myself... I can't always depend on the two of you for help. What kind of hero will I be if I do that..." I said, looking into his sad red eyes.
I'm not being 'that kid' who always complain that their parents treat them like babies. No. My parents are wonderful people who I would give the world to. I'm just trying to tell him that someday, Im going to have to stand own my own two feets and not always rely on them... what kind of person would I be who always depended on his parents to save him from troubles?
"I know that bud. I know." He sniffs. "One of the most painful things of being a parent is watching their kids grow up and having a life of their own..." he said. "Your day will come. You're gonna protect everyone just like your old man. Until then, we will be here for you." He continued, tearing up, and so am I.
