Reviewing TOHO Eurobeat Vol. 8 ~ Subterranean Animism
Since I wasn't exposed to much of Subterranean Animism's OST, I decided to do a quick listen on all of the songs. At least until the song repeats itself.
And before anyone says anything, I give this OST a 8/10.

Spider's Blood / Rute: HAHAHAH THIS SONG SUCKS!!! I KNOW WHAT KEY THIS SIGNATURE IS WHY THE PIANO START-
oh. I completely unexpected that coming... God damn it DJ Command.... You made this an excellent song... From the buildup, vocals, and brass riff. TOHO Eurobeat has its faults, but when you have the greats it extremely outweighs the faults. I think that piano was used to introduce volume 8, and that's an awesome thing to do.
Song based off Level 1 and Yamame's theme.

Secret Eyes / Aki: That cowbell doesn't fit. Just sayin'. I literally forgot the majority of these stage themes right now XD
This song fits Koishi since she needs to find her own reasoning and everyone looks at her like she's a weird insane being. The vocals could do some work. Doesn't flow with the extra stage theme tbh.
Rating: 7.5/10
I think the songs get better as we get forward to future volumes, I hope XD

Worldly Spirits / T. Stebbins: If only the beginning actually used the slow notes from the intro theme... I honestly feel like this song's overused. Too much reverb in the vocals, brass feels too attacked. It doesn't feel like it's purely Initial D driven. Just... too much for me. Also the part where the tempo slows down... was that even neccessary?

Continuation / Usa: Umm.... All I have to say... sounds really 90's eurobeat. Wait- oh..... it's the Mountain of Faith score theme... that's why it sounds familiar....
I'm not gonna comment on this. JK I have to because you're expecting something anyways.
The brass riff uses too much influence of the first notes of the score theme. To me, that's a bad thing because it tells me that the song doesn't have a lot of creativity. Plus, the brass is kinda overused in a few parts. I prefer the other score arrange from Volume 7 than this one.

Starting Over / Nagisa: Beginning sounds good for an engine starter, but the brass riff part really is lacking in an "oomph" start. I believe that takes influence of a certain old Eurobeat song, but I don't know what it is. The lyrics actually doesn't sound bad. Even if there isn't an oomph, the vocals still give off a street racing vibe. The only problem is that the whole song itself is limiting itself to a plain state that it doesn't feel like it's an Initial D-like vibe at all. Compared to some eurobeat songs from Super Eurobeat, it does indeed feel like it's holding back from its true colors.
Song based off Stage 3 and Yuugi's themes.

Feel my Words / Rute: HOOO BOY a Satori remix! I hope it pays off to be a great arrange! And... it's actually kinda great. I didn't like the super attacked brass at first, but it started to grow on me. It still feels really overused though. I don't like the chorus part. The background leads don't provide much effort to be a chorus like overdriven beat.
To me, this doesn't feel like Satori at all. She's supposed to be a sinister and mysterious person. This song... feels like you're racing a psychomaniac who has no knowledge of driving, and Satori isn't one of those.
Song based off Stage 4 and Satori's themes.

little flare / Aki: I remember getting it SOLELY for the Nuclear Fusion eurobeat arrange. The first thing I heard wasn't a super overdriven, gritty hardcore, eurobeat Initial D song. It was instead something like Boom Boom Dollar. So I immediately deleted it from my song library. Now that I listen to it again, and knowing that I 'm more into slow driven Eurobeat songs, I think that this is decent. It's not my favorite slow sounding one (Faithful Heart being my number one), but it does provide something that Nuclear Fusion fans would love.
And by that, I mean geometry dash fans. SERIOUSLY THIS AIN'T FLAWLESS WINGS OF YATAGARASU-

This is what I should hear instead of that, but that's DJ Command (who's from Eurobeat Union). BTW it's decent.

Sweet Jealousy / Hanatan: Heh that fits Parsee's jealous personality XD
I like the key placement of the song. Things that have "F" or some "F sharp" in it feels great. The brass riff beats feel really generic and plain though. They could've come up with something more creative other than that. A 5th grader can do those kinds of notes. The background leads on the other hand do a great job supporting the singer. The brass attacks during the chorus isn't overused as well XD
This song kinda sounds familiar, but I can't put my finger over it...
But I think my favorite note has to be F.
Song based off Stage 2 and Parsee's themes.

Dancing in the fire / AXEL.K: Seriously? Axel K? Wow, I never expected him to appear in another TOHO Eurobeat song. I have Nitrofire and Sunlight (Kaioh) vibes in this song. Also DJ Command. If you didn't notice, Command uses a style that sounds more closely to what Initial D has. To me, a generic song with an awesome brass riff.

Songs I would listen to in this album everyday:
Dancing in the fire
Spider's Blood
Sweet Jealousy
Songs in the album that I would never listen to:
little flare
Worldly Spirits
Continuation
Overall Rating: 7/10
Yeah... this album never has been my favorite ever since I listened to it for the first time. Remember when I said the bests overweighs the faults? Well I think it's the opposite here...
I just wish little flare wasn't a slow sounding song to be honest.
Before I end this,
I would like to announce that I have uploaded the reviews on my website, pkgzt.weebly.com!
It won't look like that btw, I had to zoom out the page in order to get the logo.
