3rd Person

When Max finished cleaning himself up in the shower, he got changed into the scratchy uniform. Oh, how he wished he could wear his comfortable hoodie. There was no wear to put his hands, no comforting feeling of something around him, keeping him safe.

Max sighed and walked out of the shower room, crossing his arms and staring down at the dirt. He dragged his feet slightly, grumbling under his breath.

"This is bullshit," he muttered, bumping straight into someone. He stumbled slightly, feeling a headache begin to pound. Before he could fall, a hand quickly grabbed his shoulder, steadying him. His arms were uncrossed to help keep his balance, and he looked up slightly to see who the hand belonged to.

"Don't swear, kiddo," Of course it was YN who had steadied him. No one else at this camp was that polite and considerate.

Max rolled his eyes and yanked his arm out of her grip, "Here's a fucking question; why do I keep losing my balance?"

YN stared at him with an annoyed face.

"You're such a piece of shit Maxwell," His eyes widened before he smirked a bit, crossing his arms, "I was gonna let you sleep in more, but I've changed my mind. Training starts at the break of dawn."

Max's jaw dropped, "What?! That's not fair!"

YN rolled her eyes, grabbing his forearm and dragging him to their tent, "It's perfectly fair, now shut up."

"I-" YN tightened her grip on Max's arm, making him wince and shut his mouth.

"Shut. Up," She said in a low, stern voice. Max lowered his head slightly, not speaking a word until they got to the tent.

He had to admit, YN could be scary at times.

Letting go of his arm, YN unzipped the tent. Max rubbed his arm gingerly and followed in after her.

YN laid down on her bed, pulling out a book and beginning to read. She paid no mind to Max awkwardly standing there. He turned to his side of the room, seeing the army style bed with a thin, lime green sheet neatly laid on top.

There was a small, white pillow that sat at the top of the bed. His bag was leaning against the metal poles holding the stretcher-like bed up.

Max shuffled over to the bed, sitting on it and hearing in squeak in protest underneath him. He nearly started complaining, but realised that he would just get in trouble again.

He looked up at YN, seeing her turn the page of her book. Tilting his head slightly, he read the front cover, trying to see what kind of person she was by her choice of book.

'Gone' was written in capital letters vertically in black, a lime green fog surrounding it and making it stand out from the dark green background.

Gone. That's what had happened to his life. One minute it was all there, then poof. Yeah, it may have seemed a little shitty, but that's the way Max was used to it. But now...

Sighing, Max shoved his head into his hands, leaning his arms on his knees.

It's all gone! His life, his friends, all gone. Just because of fucking David. If he hadn't been un-David-like, than Max would've been wandering around camp right now, with Neil and Nikki by his side, calling David names and shit.

Max sniffed, furrowing his brows. He shouldn't be upset or angry, this is David's fault!

But the more he though about it, the more it felt like he himself was at fault. Was it true? Was Max to blame?

He began to wonder what Nikki and Neil were doing right now, if anyone had noticed him missing.

No, of course they had noticed, the miserable little shit was finally gone. They're probably partying or something, I mean what else would you do? Max hadn't added to the camp at all, he'd only taken from it. Everyone would actually start to enjoy being there with him gone.

What if-

A hand touching his shoulder brought him out of his thoughts in a fright. He pulled his head out of his hands and looked up slightly to see YN. Her scary, angry face was gone, replaced with a gentle and caring look. Max wiped at his eyes, getting rid of the tears that had started.

"Thinking about your camp?" YN said quietly. Her voice sounded different, like she hadn't just yelled at him before.

Max wanted to pull away, yell at her to leave him alone. He wanted to tell her that he hated her, cuss her out. But instead, he decided that he couldn't do that. He had to try and get someone on his side, right? If no one was on Max's side, he would have no one to stop the others from killing him.

He looked back down at his hands, feeling YN take away her hand. It usually wouldn't have phased him, but without a reassuring hand holding him together, he felt like he would fall apart.

"C'mon Maxwell, it's dinner time already," YN walked out of the shared tent, leaving Max to sit in his thoughts for a few more seconds before he too, got up and left for dinner.

He crossed his fingers, hoping the food at this camp wasn't as shitty as the Quartermaster's 'specialty'.

If he was lucky, the food might not give him poisoning, or internal bleeding or whatever. Max had enough to deal with, so if the food was ok at the least, then that was one thing off of his mind at least, right?
