~~Monday 'cause I'm still super lazy~~

"I'm so glad I get to go home." Max chuckled to AJ while standing slowly. She had already changed from the hospital gown into clothes that were comfortable. The doctors already said she was unallowed to wear tight clothes at least on her chest for a few days, at least until next week. She wasn't allowed to really participate physical activity until the end of the month, so about three weeks. She was allowed to go to school on Wednesday. AJ chuckled.

"You do know we still have a project to work on?" He replied teasingly.

"Suddenly not feeling so great." Max joked and sat down. The stitches were still holding her chest together, though, they would be out within the next week.

"At least you don't have to do anything besides write your name on it." AJ huffed as he leaned back lazily in the chair. Kelli entered the room and gave AJ a slightly surprised look.

"Sorry to interrupt." She smiled shyly. "Just doing one final check before we send you off. Now, you are aware you're going to have to come back to the hospital for continuous check-ups?" Max nodded back. "Alright," Kelli continued to explain multiple things. Max was listening and so was AJ. She didn't argue at all because she actually did want to get better and pretty quickly the explanations were done. Steve had entered soon after.

"Are we going home now?" Max asked curiously. Steve nodded, though, he seemed hesitant. Max gave him a questioning look. "What's wrong?"

"Just worried, that's all." Steve assured nervously. "Ready to go you two?" Max and AJ nodded in unison.

"Thank you, Kelli." Max smiled sweetly.

"Alright, Max, ready to go?" Dr. Genie asked, entering the room.

"Yes, thank you very much for everything." Max smiled to him. He nodded, smiling.

"Alright, I'll take her home, make sure she behaves." Steve smiled reassuringly. Dr. Genie nodded. "Thank you so much." Steve smiled and bowed his head. "Let's go, Max." He instructed. Max nodded and stood. AJ followed suit. He caught her when she swayed. "M-Max!" Steve panicked.

"S'all good... S'all good." Max assured.

"A-Are you sure?" AJ asked hesitantly.

"I'm fine, I'm fine." Max straightened out. She exhaled with relief and carefully followed Steve out. Kelli and Dr. Genie exchanged a nervous look as they followed. AJ frowned hesitantly as he followed.

"Hey kiddo!" Dan greeted as he walked in with Matt following.

"Dad!" Max beamed. She hugged him carelessly, Dan carefully hugged her.

"I do have to go back on patrol, but I just wanted to check on you." Dan smiled softly to her.

"Oh, okay. Be careful, okay?" Max asked worriedly.

"Of course, kiddo." He kissed her forehead. "You be safe too." He said sternly. Max giggled.

"Okay, okay, I will." She assured. God, she's nothing like she is in school... AJ contemplated. "Hey, Matt." Max waved.

"Hey." Matt waved casually.

"I should take her home." Steve commented.

"Yeah..." Dan nodded. He sent Steve a nervous smile. Steve awkwardly smiled back. Max noticed and sulked slightly. "Get home safe, you two."

"You two be safe." Steve countered. Dan smiled amusedly and nodded. He waved as he walked off. Matt followed, waving casually. "Alright, you two, let's go." Steve decided. He led the teens after him.

Max stared at her ceiling lazily. She was bored and alone. Steve had gone out for a bit and Dan wasn't home. Max wasn't allowed to move because of her chest. She sighed and tapped on her phone. She was bored, texting on her phone. She was in a group chat with the kids she considered friends.

Why am I "friends" with these kids again? Max wondered, setting her phone down. She listened to her phone buzz as her friends messaged the group they put her back in. She sighed and rested her hand on her forehead. My head hurts. She informed herself. She rested tiredly. So does my chest... Max shifted uncomfortably. There was a knock on the door. She didn't respond. Another knock. Max silenced her phone to listen. More knocking impatiently. Max swallowed hesitantly. She conformed to the couch as she listened to the knocking. She held her phone tightly, shaking with nervousness. Go away... Go away... The knocking stopped. Max quietly sighed, but tensed when the door was knocked open. Her heart stopped when she was faced with two unfamiliar faces. "Fuck." Was all she said. The people ran out as fast as they could.

"911, what's your emergency?" A calm female asked answering Max's call.

"Yes, hello, um... So some random guy and his friend, I'm guessing, literally just kicked in my door then ran out." Max explained.

"Alright, are you injured?"

"No, well, I was previously injured, but." Max explained.

"Alright, what's your name?"

"Maximillia Crosby."

"How old are you Maximillia?"

"16."

"Alright, what's your address?" The woman asked curiously. Max explained as the operator typed.

"It's right across from the high school." Max added. "I think the guys left, so it might not be an emergency, but my door is totally broken."

"Are you home alone?"

"Yes."

"Is there somewhere you can hide?"

"I'm not allowed to move. I have my pocket knife, though." Max explained. The operator frowned hesitantly.

"Alright, I'm sending a unite right now. Stay on the line."

"Okay, thank you." Max was trying to hide her shaking and remain calm. It was always a challenge over the phone, or anytime when she was scared. She was just remembering what Dan taught her; freaking out helps nothing.

"Any available unit to Apartment 9 building C in Othridge Apartments. Potential robbery in progress." Another voice called through the speakers. Dan chocked on his food for a second. He and Matt made eye contact.

"10-4, on our way." Matt called.

"10-4." The operator agreed. Matt turned on the lights and sirens then drove off quickly.

Dan and Matt carefully stepped into the apartment, avoiding the broken door. Dan peered around the corner. He sighed with relief, seeing Max simply on her phone. He holstered his gun and approached her.

"You know, I almost stabbed you." Max pointed out without looking away from her phone.

"And I almost shot you." Dan responded. "Where's the robbery?" He looked around carefully.

"I said it wasn't an emergency. Two random dudes broke into the house after pounding on the door for a solid five minutes. When they saw me; they ran out." Max explained, shifting to look at him.

"Max?!" Steve called, fumbling into the house. "What happened?" He asked, motioning to the door. Everyone faced him. Matt was writing down what Max was explaining.

"Two random dudes kicked in the door then ran away." Max explained for the fifth time. She looked back at Matt. "I can't really explain what they looked like, I didn't get a very good look. I made eye contact with one of them, which is why they ran. I think the one I made eye contact with was blonde. His eyes were brown. He wasn't shaved either and was white. That's all I remember. They weren't wearing gloves or anything, no masks. Really stupid dudes, breaking in in the light of day, no gloves, no masks. Really dumb." She nodded. Dan pinched the bridge of his nose and sighed.

"My daughter is planning a robbery." He muttered, shaking his head.

"I'm just saying, if you're gonna rob somewhere don't rob a highly populated area, don't do it when it's easy to see, don't rob a police officer's house, don't rob a house with a lot of people, wear gloves and masks." Max pointed out.

"You really worry me sometimes." Dan muttered, shaking his head. Matt chuckled.

"Should I write this down?" Matt joked.

"Take notes kiddies." Max joked.

"I'm going to check the house." Dan muttered, walking off. He checked every room, under everything, in everything; there was no one else. He and Matt checked the outside and talked to neighbors. No one seemed to see anything. They returned, Steve was still freaking out. Max was on her phone, telling her friends what happened. "Well, no one seems to have seen anything." Dan brought up. "The area seems clear. Are you sure they weren't neighbors?"

"No, I didn't recognize them as anyone we know." Max looked at him. Dan nodded.

"Alright, well, whoever they were; they are gone now. Call me if something else happens, okay?" Dan asked sternly. Max nodded. Dan nodded.

"All units, all units officer down. Officer down." Someone called over the talkies.

"We need to go, be careful!" Dan yelled, he and Matt left quickly.

"Agh, the door!" Steve whimpered, picking it up. It was totally broken. He sighed heavily. "Better it than you." He decided, looking at Max. Max shrugged, staring at her phone.

"Just more stuff to pay for." She sighed. Steve frowned. He looked back at the door.

"Look, I know you're still mad at me for... that, but-" Steve started, thinking about the divorce and the... mistake he had made long before.

"Drop it." Max mumbled back. She wasn't in the mood. Steve sighed heavily.

"I'm going to call the land lord." He decided, setting the door aside. He called, they talked, he came and decided on the door. They fixed it while Max texted. They got three new house keys and that was that.

Dan came in, furiously rubbing his neck. He had just lost a superior after a long hard day and was pretty drained. "Hey." He quietly greeted then walked off. Steve and Max exchanged a look. Dan came back, fully changed. He was headed to the kitchen.

"Rough day?" Steve called hesitantly.

"Yeah." Dan called back in a quiet tone. He came back with a beer. "Pretty rough." He sighed and sat in his chair. "Lieutenant was officer down. He died. His wife clocked me." He motioned to his bruised cheek.

"Dude shoot..." Max frowned. "I'm sorry."

"It's the price of the job, I guess." Dan mumbled. The room fell quiet.

"I'll make dinner." Steve awkwardly stood and walked off. Dan sighed and rubbed his neck. He set his drink aside and watched the screen. Max continued to text silently. It was her best distraction.

Max set her phone down as she was handed food. "Thank you." She smiled to Steve hesitantly. Steve smiled back and sat in his chair. Max was seated on the couch. They ate in awkward silence. Max watched her food, instead of the screen. She listened to Dan and Steven talking. She frowned curiously. She ate her modified diet carefully. She was kind of distracted from the pain before, but not anymore. She had forgotten to take her pain meds earlier, since the thing happened. She winced and tapped her foot.

"Are you okay?" Dan asked, frowning worriedly. Max shrugged. "Did you take your pain meds earlier?" Max shook her head. "Max!" Dan sighed heavily.

"I forgot! After the door broke; I spaced!" Max whined defensively. Dan sighed. "I'll take them now, geez." Max's hands raised defensively. She set her food aside and went to take her meds. The adults watched her take them and return. She sat and ate.

"And now we wait for the meds to kick in." Dan smirked to Steve. When Max was on pain killers; she acted hilarious. Max's eyes rolled. She finished eating, Dan took her food. Max laid down lazily. She was back to her phone.

"Night night..." Max mumbled sleepily. She had been talking to her parents while texting, they were both laughing at everything she read from her phone. They knew she wasn't reading it properly and were finding it hilarious. Max lazily rested her phone behind her head.

"Mhmm...." Max nodded lazily. She fell asleep quickly.
