TWO

"HEY, BLUE, WHERE are you going tonight?" Soda asked as he popped a french fry in his mouth.

"Probably just staying at my house. I want to make sure Dally comes home without getting arrested." I chuckled, knowing he was probably going to get in trouble with the fuzz.

"Dally will be alright, you should come with me and Ponyboy to the movies tonight." He replied looking straight at me.

"Why can't you come?" I turned toward Steve who had his mouth full of french fries.

"I'm working tonight at the DX." He groaned, which made me and Soda laugh.

I turned back to Soda and cocked my head to the side. "Why didn't you ask Sandy?"

He hesitated, like what he knew he was about to say was going to be a lie. "Well, she said she was going somewhere tonight with her friends. You're kind of the only other person left."

"Oh, so I get it. I'm just your backup plan. I see how it is Soda." I replied, smirking.

He laughed while shaking his head. "You know you're not a backup plan, Blue. I'd never do that to you."

I grinned. "Well, I don't see why not. I'll just leave Dally a note telling him where I'll be."

Soda clapped his hands together. "I need to ask you something else though. You and Steve both."

Steve and I looked at him, eager for him to continue. "Tomorrow I'm going to ask Sandy to marry me."

I choked on my coke and Steve dropped his cheeseburger. "Say what now?" Steve questioned, anger evident in his voice.

"I'm going to ask Sandy to marry me." Soda repeated, using a harsher tone.

I still stood there with my eyes still wide open and I felt like I was going to throw up. "Skye, you okay? You don't look too good." Steve spoke, his face full of concern.

"I gotta go." I excused myself and walked outside the restaurant. I took a deep breath and sat down on the bench.

Soda's voice kept replaying in my mind.

I'm going to ask Sandy to marry me.

I closed my eyes and heard the restaurant door open. "You okay, Blue?"

"Yeah, just a little sick. I only needed some fresh air." I lied, flashing him a fake smile.

He giggled. "Well, come back in here! Steve and I are waiting."

When I walked back in, Steve gave me the 'I know why you walked out' look and I glared at him. When Soda and I sat back down, he waited for me and Steve to give feedback.

Steve took a deep breath. "Look, Soda, I know you love her and all, but don't you think you're kind of young?"

"That doesn't matter! I know I love her and she loves me!" He argued, raising his voice.

I rolled my eyes. Sandy doesn't even love him as much as he loves her.

"What do you think, Blue?" Soda asked, interrupting my thoughts.

I hesitated. "Don't ask me, Soda. I don't know anything about relationships and getting married."

"I bet you do." Steve gave me a sideways glance, apparently wanting to get smacked in the face.

I narrowed my eyes at him and then looked back at Soda. "Soda, how about you ask Darry? He's smart and older than all of us."

"Blue, c'mon! Your opinion means a lot to me so just please tell me!" He begged, his blue eyes starting to water.

I could feel my cheeks getting flushed from me being upset. "You are too young, Soda, but it's your decision. Not mine or Steve's. I'm not going to stop you from marrying her because I know you love her."

He grinned. "Thank you, Blue. See you tonight. I'll come by your house at eight."

He left me and Steve sitting there in the booth and Steve pulled me into a side-hug. "That must've hurt you to say that and sound like you mean it." He spoke, giving me a sympathetic smile.

I sighed and threw away my food, losing any appetite I had left. "Well, even if I said no did you really think it was going to change his mind?"

"Maybe." Steve shrugged, "you never know."

I started walking towards the door and waved to Steve. "Well, I gotta go. See you tomorrow, Steve."

I walked out of the Dingo and Jay's and started walking home. When I got to our house, I unlocked the door and was surprised to find Dally laying on the couch.

"Where have you been?" He asked, keeping his eyes locked to the television. He was always watching Andy Griffith, no matter what time of day it was.

"I was at the Dingo with Steve and Soda." I replied, plopping down on the couch beside him.

"Has Soda asked you to be his girl yet?" He smirked and started wiggling his eyebrows at me.

I punched him in the shoulder and felt my cheeks getting red. "Shut up!"

"Oh come on, Skye. It's obvious you like him. Anyways, I'm going to Buck's tonight, so I probably won't be back." He spoke, taking a long drag out of his cancer stick.

"Well, I'm going with Soda and Ponyboy to the movies tonight." I got up off the couch to go get ready.

"I'm telling you, you should marry him and have cute little babies running around." He teased, blowing kissy faces at me.

I flipped him off, a sad smile appearing on my pink lips. "Too late. He's going to ask Sandy to marry him tomorrow."

He raised his eyebrows. "Trust me it won't last."

After I threw on some clothes, I ran back downstairs waiting for Soda and Pony. Dally must've already left because he's not in the living room anymore. I looked around at our house. It was the nicest house in the greaser neighborhood. Both of our parents were surgeons, so they made a good amount of money.

When they died, their boss felt extremely sorry for us, so he pays the house bills when needed. I thank him every single day for it, but he always shakes his head and says, "Your parents helped this hospital out, so I'm helping y'all out."

I heard a knock at the door and opened it, knowing instantly who it was. Soda stood there with his usual plaid t-shirt and blue jeans. He looked at me and smiled. "You look great."

I glanced down at my feet and smiled, locking the door behind me. When I saw Pony, he raised his eyebrows and I tackled him. "Nice to meet you too!" He yelled trying to break free of my grasp.

I chuckled and let him up. While we were walking to the movies, we passed Sandy's house and saw a whole lot of people there.

"She wasn't lying when she said she was bringing her friends over." I raised my eyebrows, amusement in my voice.

Soda furrowed his eyebrows and kept his gaze on the house. "It's okay, Soda. Let's go and enjoy the movie and on the way back we will stop by." I assured, rubbing his back.

"Well, alright. Let's go." He replied hesitantly.

When we arrived at the Nightly Double, we sat down and watched some movie about a shark, and when it was over we started walking back towards Sandy's house, me eager to see the look on Sandy's face when we walk in.

"Ponyboy, you better go on home so we can go inside." Soda spoke, looking at him.

"Alright, see ya Abs!" Pony yelled, using the nickname he's called me since we were kids.

"Bye, sucker!" I yelled back.

Soda and I walked up her porch and when we opened the door we gasped. There were beer bottles, cigarette butts, a lot of guys and girls, everything you could possibly imagine. I looked at Soda and I could tell this wasn't going to be good.
