"Isabelle! Please come out side! I miss hanging wit –" Isabelle slammed the Institute's door quickly, not want hear anymore of the similar speeches Simon had been giving her for the past few days. She sighed and headed over to the living room, where Magnus and Alec were chatting. "Let me guess, that was your vampire Romeo, wasn't it? Come on, Juliet, when are you going to risk it all to be with your forbidden love?" Magnus teased Isabelle when he spotted her making her way towards the couple. Isabelle rolled her eyes and crossed her arms then replied sarcastically, "Ha-ha. Very funny, I suppose you are Friar Lawrence, uniting us in marriage?" Isabelle asked wryly.

Magnus gawked at Isabelle but surprised at the same time, "You've read Romeo and Juliet?!" Isabelle looked at him incredulously and raised her eyebrows at him; a look that said 'duh'. "And... yes, yes I am. I just want you two to finish up with all this drama and for you and Simon to just be with each other. I mean, he's putting a lot of effort in trying to get you to forgive him. He's been coming here for days and leaving these." Magnus said gesturing to the stuffed toys that were piled inside a box and the smell of different flowers that seemed to take over the house. "Don't you miss him?" Magnus inquired, giving Isabelle a searching gaze.

Isabelle swallowed. I do miss him, but…I don't want to keep pretending – when in fact I wasn't. Isabelle contemplated in her head. What was she to do? Would she want to risk her feelings again? But you could get hurt again… an inner warned her.

But if you don't try, you'll never know… another voice reminded her. Isabelle stood still, letting the internal debate take over within her for the next ten minutes. She was torn between the two choices, both came with their pros and cons; the question was which one had more advantages or disadvantages?

Finally fed up with this inner turmoil, Isabelle finally decided what she'd do. She'd forgive, but... she would also tell him how he felt. She wasn't going to chicken out. Isabelle was going to tell him and she wouldn't be interrupted this time.

With this new resolve, Isabelle marched determinedly up to her room to prepare herself for what she would have to face at the Seelie Queen's ball.

Simon heaved a tired breath, as he got ready for the faerie party. Usually, he wouldn't have attended a party concerning the Shadow World, much less, a faerie one at that. The way the faeries somehow knew what was going on every where and what seemed to be aware of what transpired between people, gave Simon the heebie jeebies, more so, it annoyed him to end, the way the faeries couldn't lie, but twisted their words, making the message an impossible riddle.

Simon shook his head, trying to get rid of the distracting thoughts and focused on the task at hand. Tonight's party would be different. Despite the tricks of the fairies, a lot of pressure had been set upon Simon's shoulders. At the moment, the only person who he was thinking about was Isabelle Lightwood and how this party would be the last chance to make it up to her. After this, he would give up. If Isabelle had rejected his apology twenties already – yes, he had been keeping count – that what difference would a twenty-second?

He remembered all the stuff toys he had given to her; teddy bears, pigs, rabbits, penguins, elephants, things he assumed were her favourite types of animals. Paired up with each animal, he had also gotten a bouquet of orchids of different colours. Isabelle had slammed the door every time Simon had opened his mouth to speak – which by the way destroyed his confidence each time, but motivated him to do better – causing him to leave the peace offerings on the Institute's steps and walk away unsuccessfully. Simon wondered if Isabelle had found his gifts and kept them or left them outside, unwanted or even worse, threw them out…

This time, I will finally get her to forgive me…that or I'll get my ass whooped by Magnus, Alec and Jace. Simon shivered with worry, but soon brushed the thought off. He was going to apologize – again – no matter what.

Down beneath the surface of lake lay three ten stories of ground, rock and dirt and below that, was a passageway that lead to the Faerie Realm, here their enchanted kingdom flourished and was only open to those who were invited, much like the Shadow Hunters Institutes. Here, Isabelle smoothed out her ball gown repeatedly trying to flatten inexistent wrinkles. She fussed over her appearance and tried to find the perfect way to style her hair.

"Would you quit fussing over how you look? You look fine now let's go!" Alec grumbled impatiently and latched onto Isabelle's elbow, dragging her deeper into the dirt underground that would lead to the faerie ball. "But-!" Isabelle gasped attempting to loosen Alec's hold as her heels sunk into the soft dirt.

They trudged down the dark rocky hallway with Magnus in the lead, holding a spark of blue light which did little to penetrate the thick blackness, but was enough to warn them when they should step over a crevice, as well as make them jump in fright and discuss and the critters who would skitter past their feet.

Finally, the faerie Queen's guards soon came in sight, frightening the trio at first. The guards eyed them suspiciously and looked incredibly intimidating in their brown skin uniforms and armour that seemed to be made of nature's different components. The blue and green eyes narrowed in on the three as they looked them up and down.

"State your names." Said the blue-eyed soldier formally, whose voice sliced through the dead silence making the visitors flinch at the sudden sound.

"Magnus Bane, High Warlock of Brooklyn." Magnus introduced his voice not as strong as the guards. "This is Alexander and Isabelle Lightwood, Shadow Hunters and residents of the New York Institute." Magnus continued, swooping his hand to indicate who the dark-haired siblings were beside him. The first guard nodded curtly, but not before eyeing the two Shadow Hunters with clear dislike, and turned to his comrade questioningly. His partner unrolled a piece of parchment and skimmed through the contents purposefully.

He glanced back at his partner and gave a slight tilt of his head letting the first sentential know that Isabelle and the couple were on the list. "Alright, you may go, but you, Warlock, extinguish the light." The faerie ordered in a deathly commanding tone. Magnus did as he said quickly and soon the large red doors creaked up slowly and the party was soon revealed to them. As soon as they had stepped inside the door had quickly shut behind them.

Downworlders, mainly faeries, of many different regions swooped across the dance floor, swaying to the upbeat music created by a lute, a wooden flute and a lyre; all sounds harmonizing beautifully which each other as they controlled the dancers. Isabelle wouldn't be surprised if it did the tongue twister Peter Piper had been based on the hypnotic music of the fey.

"Welcome to the Seelie Queen's ball. I'm Lisianthus (A/N: this is an actual flower, it's really pretty), but you can call me Lizzie." A smiling girl greeted the group. Distracted from the scenery, Isabelle spun around too see a beautiful girl standing in front of her. Lizzie was clearly a fey, though not of the same line as the Seelie Queen. Lizzie had skin that held a green pigment to it and seemed…leafy, where as, the Queen had a pale creamy complexion. Instead of scarlet hair, Lizzie had headdress of pale pink petals that appeared to have just bloomed. The only thing similar between the two was their stark blue eyes.

Isabelle eyed the girl apprehensively, sure her welcoming attitude implied she was a nice person, but Isabelle couldn't bring herself to trust Lizzie. And Isabelle wasn't to be blamed, the fey were known for their manipulative ways, especially the Seelie Queen and her unsettling pleasure of messing with people who were in love.

Pasting a smile on her face she suppressed her suspicions – though she kept her guard up – and introduced herself as well as her friends. "I'm Isabelle and this is my brother Alec and his boyfriend Magnus." she said, gesturing to each person as she mentioned their names.

"Did you really have to say he was my boyfriend?" Alec muttered under his breath so he wouldn't be heard by Lizzie.

"Of course she did," Magnus replied pinching Alec's cheek. Alec glared at him, slapping Magnus' hand away. "Now, now, no need for violence." The warlock scolded his dark-haired boyfriend.

"Says the one who practically ripped off my cheek." Alec fussed and robbing his throbbing cheek that had began turning a dark shade of red. Clearly not taking notice of his partner's annoyance, Magnus, seized Alec's hand and yanking him towards the dance with a cry of, "Time to dance, Alexander!" The said male threw a look of panic towards his sister, but all she did was giggle and wave as the pair headed off. When they were out of sight she let out an exhale of loneliness.

Now what am I supposed to do? She thought, scuffing her feet on the floor. She stared at the couple's longingly, remembering the time at her party when she had wished she were the other half of one of the couples; the same party where Simon had danced with her.

Simon… Speaking of which where was he? Was he not coming to the party? The thought soon made her feel burdened and even lonelier than before.

"Excuse me." a smooth voice said, bringing her out of her reflection." Isabelle curiously glanced at the source and was surprised to see a young male faerie standing next to her. She looked the boy up and down, he looked to be around her age, though looks could be deceiving – considering faeries aged slower than humans and lived longer life spans, though not as long as vampires. This faerie had bright brown curly locks that encompassed an angular face that held soft blue eyes, containing specks of gold, and plump pink lips. He was a charming man who looked like he had stepped out of a fairy tail.

"Um, I'm sorry is there something on my face?" the male asked, making Isabelle realize that she had been gaping at him for the past few minutes.

"No, no! Sorry, I was…distracted." Isabelle replied quickly to cover up her embarrassment as a pink tint blossomed on her cheeks. "So what were you saying?" she asked, changing the subject. The faerie chuckled and smiled warmly at her, "I was wondering if you would spare me a dance?" He bowed to her and held out a hand.

Isabelle gawked at him. Wow so formal and he even acts like a prince. She kindly accepted his request and placed her hand in his. For a while she danced with the faerie and though she was quite infatuated with him, her heart belong only Simon.

Besides, even though this faerie – funny how she still didn't know his name – seemed to be every girl's dream guy, but she couldn't be wooed by such elegance and pretty words, for all she knew they were just beautiful lies.

Anyway, where was Simon? She stood on her tips of her toes and arched her neck to get a better view. She glanced around the room searching, looking at each and every face that seemed to resemble Simon; Isabelle was loosing hope with each passing minute, wondering if he had even come at all. Then her eyes zoomed in on another patch of brown hair, wondering if it was the person she was looking for.

Feeling like someone was watching hi, the said person spun around and met eyes with his observer.

Simon!

Simon's brown orbs enlarged and he soon made his way over to Isabelle, excusing himself as he tried to squeeze through crowds of party goers. Isabelle was so happy to see him that she quickly threw down the brunette fairy's hands and gave him a quick curtsey and a mumbled, "Sorry, excuse me!" The faerie looked at her confused, but nodded in response. She picked up her dress and scampered over to Simon, shortening the remaining distance.

"Izzy –"

"Simon –"

They both began, but quickly cut off and blushed when they realized the other had also spoken. "You first." Simon said finally.

"No, no! It's okay! You first!" Isabelle insisted, her voice rising a bit due to her nervousness.

Simon rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly and answered, "Err… okay. Well, I know I've said it a lot of times already, but I want you to know that I really am sorry. I didn't mean to hurt you or say those things to you. I just… just got so worked up over Clary that I didn't realize I was treating you badly. So I'm sorry that I've been a bad friend and I promise to be a better friend to you."

Friend? … You're making this really hard for me. Isabelle thought to herself, but tried to ignore the thought and instructed herself to get over her anxiety and tell Simon how she felt. She studied Simon searching for any traces of dishonesty and found none. Isabelle could see that Simon was sincere in his apology, so she smiled softly at him and replied, "It's ok, I forgive you. It's not your fault I understand. Thanks for the gifts by the way…they're really sweet…" And so are you. She wanted to add.

"No problem, I'm happy you like them." he grinned at her. "Oh yeah, earlier did you want to say something to me as well?" he wondered.

"O-oh! That? Yeah, ha-ha. Actually, yeah I do." she responded, laughing nervously.

"Oh ok. What's up?"

"Um… nothing. I – I … um just wanted to t-tell you something…" Isabelle stuttered hesitantly. Simon remained quiet, but gave her an encouraging look seeing that she was so flustered.

"Err… ok! I- I like –" Isabelle spit out, but was unfortunately interrupted by one of the servants.

"Excuse me, Mr. Lewis and Ms. Lightwood I presume?" an older faerie with thinning salt-pepper hair inquired.

"Yes… can I help you?" Simon asked.

"Her Majesty has requested to speak to you two, as well as the rest of your… group." the servant explained while looking at them disapprovingly.

Simon and Isabelle quickly followed, unsure of what to do and quite suspicious of what the queen had to say. Isabelle practically stomped towards the Seelie Queen's quarters. Are you kidding me? Are you freaking kidding me?! By the Angel! I practically just said it but was interrupted again!

When they reached the mahogany brown doors that lead into the Queen's chamber, the servant gestured to the door then took up an extra tray from another passing servant and headed off to serve the other guests.

Simon stared after the elderly faerie, but shrugged his shoulders. Before entering, he turned to Isabelle and told her, "Sorry, our conversation was cut short. How about we talk later and continue from where we left off?" Simon suggested.

Isabelle nodded in agreement and Simon smiled, and then headed in first.

Isabelle sighed, "You… I like you…"
