㉓You Could Have Said It From The Beginning
Taehyung hummed as he stretched his curled-up body, a sonorous yawn seeping through his lips. The bed he was in was extremely comfortable, and the cotton blanket was too smooth and warm, something that made it hard for him to part from it.
His mind traveled to yesterday's events, and he couldn't help but analyze what happened once again. Did Jeongguk actually flirt with me? Why did he ask if I want to hug him to sleep? Why didn't he just give me the pillow so I could leave?
He yawned once more and sat up in the bed. It was after ten in the morning, so Jeongguk probably wouldn't be there. With a sigh, he decided to leave the warm bed as his urge to relieve himself overtook him, and once he freshened up, he sauntered to the kitchen to drink some water.
His eyebrows bumped together and some murmurs in confusion escaped his mouth upon seeing a mess in the kitchen. He walked further inside, observing the dirty cookware and dishes that were piled up in the sink.
He shrugged it off and walked towards the fridge, only to stop abruptly once he spotted a note on the table.
Hey! Sorry for the mess, I tried making breakfast but failed. Haha. I ordered some sandwiches, you can eat them all! Don't forget to try the jacuzzi and playroom
"What the actual fuck?" Taehyung muttered, utterly confused. Why would Jeon Jeongguk try making breakfast for me?
He opened the fridge, only to be shocked once again. There were five different kinds of sandwiches in there. Is he crazy? I can't eat all these. He grabbed one randomly and sat at the table.
After eating, he went to the playroom first. He gaped at the room while he exclaimed 'wow' every time he spotted another game he liked. He spent at least two hours in there, and yes, he was able to try them all. He was having the time of his life; it had been too long since the last time he played games like this.
He searched for the jacuzzi for a while since Jeongguk didn't tell him where it was. At last, he went to the younger's room to see if he had his own bathroom, and he did. His bathroom was three times bigger than his previous apartment, incredibly luxurious and shiny as the rest of the house.
He slipped out of his clothes and got into the jacuzzi, a sigh of satisfaction passing through his lips instantly as the feeling was one he had never experienced before.
"I could get used to this," he whispered to himself as he played with the water, a blissful smile engraved on his face. But his smile faltered rather soon as he thought it was the first and last time he was in that jacuzzi and in that house in general.
Half an hour later, he took a quick shower and spent the remaining time wandering around the enormous house and then lying on the downy, cozy couch in the living room. Of course, he did wash the dishes and overall cleaned up the kitchen as a thank you to Jeongguk for letting him stay there.
Once it was time to go to work, he grabbed his things and stood by the door, staring at the house with a deep pout. "It was nice for as long as it lasted." He closed the door and reluctantly returned to the bitter reality.
"Good morning, sir," a smiling chauffeur greeted as he stood outside of the house.
"Wow! What the—" he exclaimed as he threw a hand over his chest, outright appalled by his sudden appearance.
"My name is Hanae, and I'll be your driver for the day." He bowed and offered him yet another genial smile.
"Um, I'm Taehyung, but why are you taking me to work?"
"Mr. Jeon asked me to."
"Of course he did," Taehyung snickered as he shook his head. "It's okay, you can go." He started walking past the car.
"I'm sorry, Mr. Kim, but I can't leave if I don't complete Mr. Jeon's request." Hanae leaped in front of him, blocking his way.
"But I can just take the bus."
"He told me that you can be a little hard to persuade and his exact words were these; stop being a stubborn fifteen-year-old and let the man help you."
"Fifteen-year-old?" Shock seized his features as he dug his fingers into his palms.
"He told me to take good care of you, so please let me drive you. I need to do what he asked if I want to continue working for him, and I really do want that."
Taehyung heaved a frustrated sigh, his contracted muscles mellowing. "Fine," he mumbled and entered the car.
Hanae broke into a smile as he got inside as well and started the engine.
It was silent at first as Taehyung gazed out the window, trying to memorize the route from Jeongguk's house to the cafe for no apparent reason.
"Are you Mr. Jeon's friend?" the chauffeur asked as he looked at the boy through the mirror.
Taehyung darted his eyes at him. "Kind of."
"I'm sorry for asking, it's just a little weird to me. Mr. Jeon doesn't have friends except for his hyungs, and he has never let anyone stay in his house before."
The black-haired boy couldn't help but frown at the new information. "How do you know that?"
"I have been working for him since he got this house. I can't say that we're friends, but I know him quite well. He doesn't like people sleeping or even visiting his house. That's why I was surprised when he asked me to pick you up from there."
Taehyung didn't know what to say. He found himself thinking about why he was such an exception for Jeongguk. Why, why, why? He stayed mute and set his gaze out the window again as his thoughts continued running wild in his head.
They arrived soon enough, and Taehyung thanked the chauffeur warmly before getting out of the car. He walked into the cafe and greeted Inguk with a beam.
"Hey, Tae, how are you?"
"Good, kind of hungry."
"Japchae?"
"You know me well," Taehyung chirped, and the other cracked a smile as he passed the order to the chef.
"Hyung," he uttered after a while as he plopped down onto a stool with Inguk sitting next to him. "Is it weird if a friend offers to sleep with you because you need something to hug in your sleep?"
Inguk peered at the boy, baffled at his unexpected and rather peculiar question. "Um, if you know each other for long I guess it's okay? I don't know."
"Is it weird if a friend doesn't cook overall but decides to cook something for you?"
"If you're close with that person it's normal I guess? I don't know, Tae, I'm not good with these things."
But we're not that close, Taehyung thought as he dropped his head and rested it against the counter.
"What's wrong with you?"
"Nothing."
"If you talk to me without riddles, maybe I can help you." A faint chuckle accompanied his remark as he ruffled the boy's hair.
"No, it's okay, I was just wondering."
Inguk didn't seem convinced but decided not to dwell on it since Taehyung didn't want to talk about it.
. . .
It was busy as usual, but Taehyung had time to rest here and there since they had more deliveries than customers in the cafe. At some point, he felt his phone buzz, and when he found a moment, he looked at the new message.
Baekhyun: Hey Tae! You wanna meet up tonight? I can pick you up after your shift?
Taehyung smiled softly upon reading his message.
Taehyung: Sounds good. I'll wait for you.
After pressing send, he slipped his phone back in his pocket and sat on a stool as he didn't have customers at the moment. He took the opportunity to think about how his date was with Baekhyun since with everything that happened yesterday, he didn't have time to think about anything.
He liked the golden blonde boy, it was no secret. But he wasn't sure if he actually felt something strong about him. The kiss they shared was good and hot, but for Taehyung, it felt like it was missing something. And he didn't know what that was.
Around seven thirty, a familiar young boy swept in the cafe with a cheery smile on his lips. That's new, Taehyung thought as he stared at the dark brown-haired boy in a daze.
"Hey."
"Hi?" His gleeful tone only managed to puzzle the older more; Jeongguk seemed to be in a rather good mood and friendly with him, something he wasn't so used to.
"Do I have something on my face?" Jeongguk questioned with a frown as he patted his cheeks with the back of his hand.
"Um, no." He giggled at his actions and didn't fail to notice how fast the younger's face brightened. "You're just being... you know, normal. A normal friend."
"I thought you wanted me to be like that though?"
"Yeah, I did," Taehyung said below his breath as he timidly glanced away. Why was he getting all sheepish with him? He had no idea. "You didn't have to call a chauffeur to drive me to work."
"I'm surprised you didn't get mad about it."
"At first I was and especially because you actually called me a fifteen-year-old? What the fuck, Jeongguk?" he snarled and smacked his shoulder, eliciting a fake whine from him.
"You don't have to be so violent," Jeongguk murmured as he rubbed the abused spot, a deep pout playing on his lips.
"Who's the fifteen-year-old now?" he asked with a wry face, making Jeongguk snort.
"I just wanted to tease you. I knew you would get annoyed."
"You deserve another smack, you know that right?"
"Yes, but you won't do it," Jeongguk said cutely as he placed his elbows on the counter and cupped his own cheeks.
Taehyung jerked his head back as a throaty laugh jumped out of his mouth. "Are you seriously doing aegyo?"
"I'm cute, right?", Jeongguk asked as he tilted his head to the side.
"Don't do that, it's weird." He held a hand in front of him, hiding his face. His unbelievably cute face, as he thought at that moment, but he would never dare to say that out loud.
"No, you're weird. Hyung, look, isn't my face cute?" he asked in a kittenish manner once Inguk made an entrance. He pursed his lips and swayed his head from side to side a few times, leaving the other two in fits of laughter.
"You are cute, but you're not like yourself at all," Inguk said through his laugh as he shook his head in disbelief. "What happened to you? Since when are you doing aegyo?"
Jeongguk shrugged an indifferent shoulder and shot them another hearty smile. Once he placed his order, Inguk went back to the kitchen, and Taehyung started cleaning up since it was almost time for him to leave.
"Looks like you'll have to wait for a while until our takeout is ready."
"Why do I have to wait?" His brows creased in puzzlement as he glanced at him. "Wait, our takeout?"
"Um, yeah, aren't you coming to my house again?"
"No?"
"What? Where are you gonna stay?" A scowl popped up onto Jeongguk's face real quick.
"I'll ask Jimin or Seokjin."
"But why?" He didn't perceive how whiny his voice came out, but Taehyung sure did. "You didn't like your room? Were you uncomfortable? Is it because I teased you? I'm sorry if I was too much, I didn't want to annoy you and—"
"Hey, Jeongguk," he softly cut his rant off as he twined his fingers around his forearm. "Everything was perfect. It was more than I could ever ask for."
"So?" Jeongguk set his hand on top of his and stroked it with his thumb.
"I don't know... I don't fit in there," he drawled and lowered his gaze to his hand once he felt his tender caress that brought an ocean of warmth inside him.
"Don't say that. Just because you're not used to it, doesn't mean you don't deserve it."
"But it's not mine, it's yours."
"It could be yours too until you find a place to stay at least."
"Why am I an exception?"
"What do you mean?"
"Hanae said you don't like people sleeping or even visiting your house." He felt Jeongguk drag his hand away and cast his eyes at the movement. "Why don't you have a problem with me?"
"Hey, Kook, sorry for the wait, we have a lot of orders." Inguk came out of the kitchen in haste and put his package on the counter.
"It's okay." Jeongguk sighed in relief since he didn't have to answer his question. He really didn't have an answer.
Once Jeongguk paid for his takeout, Inguk returned to the kitchen, leaving the two boys alone.
"Can you just stay until you find a place?"
"You didn't answer my question, Jeongguk."
"And you didn't answer mine."
At that moment, Taehyung felt his phone buzz and took it out of his pocket. "Hey."
"Hey, you're ten minutes late," Baekhyun said with mild teasing. "Should I come inside or?"
"No, sorry, I'll be right there," Taehyung said, a bit awkward, and hung up. "Um, I have to go." He collected his things and stepped away.
"Where?" Jeongguk's frosty, stern tone caused him to halt.
"I'm going out with Baekhyun."
Jeongguk blinked on repeat, trying to take in what he just said. He nodded slowly as he prodded the inside of his cheek with his tongue. "If you wanted to sleep with him, you could have said it from the beginning, you know, to save me the trouble of making a fool of myself for wanting to help you," he spat out, disdain emanating from his feral gaze, but Taehyung could swear his voice was tinged with bitterness.
"What? What are you—Jeongguk?" he called once he saw the boy surge towards the exit. He followed him in a rush but came to an abrupt pause when he remembered he hadn't changed yet. He groaned in utter frustration as he scuttled to the storage room to change his clothes.
