Chapter 48
About halfway through the army on their way towards the group that Stella was headed towards she brought the ship to a sudden and abrupt stop as a beam of rainbow energy appeared in-front of their ship.
Inter-dimensional Energies detected. Possible threats highlighted. Activating all countermeasures...
"Wait." Annabeth stopped Stella from firing into the rainbow of energy as it dissipated and a strike of lightning came down before a large dome of blue energy rose from under the ship, knocking it out temporarily and causing a back-up system to set in place, re stabilizing the ship as the blue dome dissipated from around them. "I think I know who that is..."
"Well they don't seem to know who we are!" Rocket yelled, yanking the ship to the side as a blue arc of lightning came flying towards Stella.
"Natasha, can you or the others tell Thor that we're on his side in this." Annabeth looked at her and she shook her head.
"Not unless the communication systems are still functional, and considering that Stella AI that was a part of this ship is still silent I don't think they are operational yet." She yelled gripping the over-head rails tightly as the ship lurched again. "I don't even know how this thing is still flying if Thor fried all the electronics on it..."
That is because I. Because I instated a Gravaterrium core in the operational systems thrust as a back-up alternative in the case this situation were to occur in combat, as is currently the case Stella's voice came from the avatar appearing from her usual position on the controls of the ship and Rocket growled.
"Can you stop talking and get the weapons on." Stella looked at him blankly and shook her head, causing him to growl louder and continue flying the ship erratically.
I cannot, however, I can activate the blast shield to show what's going on outside...
"Then do it!" A moment after Rocket's roar the screen at the front of the ship came on to show Quill's ship with the landing bay open and Captain America having just jumped off of it with his shield in front of him. The ship watched as Captain America landed into a quick roll with his shield and raise it up as Thor struck towards him with the electrified hammer.
The blast resulting from the second such occurrence caused everything around the two in a fifty foot radius to be incinerated and both parties were sent flying in opposite directions. Landing on the ground near the edge of the circle and slowly getting up, a point which both Quill and Stella's ships moved to intercept the incoming horde of monsters from getting to the pair. Stella stayed on the outskirts while Quill moved to pick up both Cap and Thor, where there was a series of yelling and what seemed to be screeching noises coming from the communication's still connected between the ships and the other end went silent.
"You didn't kill him did you?" Annabeth asked, voicing the question that Natasha didn't want to think about.
"No," Quill's voice came over the intercom, "but we did do something as payback for damaging my ship--"
"And nearly knocking us both out of the sky?" Annabeth interrupted.
"Yeah... and that." He said a little too reluctantly in reply. There was a slap in the background that got an "ow!" out of Quill and Annabeth smirked.
"Thanks Gamora, for doing the exact thing I wanted to do" Annabeth said
"That wasn't me" Gamora's voice sounded distant, like she was quite far away from how her voice sounded, "That was actually Drax." Annabeth blinked in shock and looked at Rocket, who also shrugged.
"Why?" Annabeth asked.
"It looked like Gamora wanted to, so I did it in her place." Drax said flatly.
"Why'd you do it so hard?! Fuck!" Quill sounded like he was on the floor or something and guessing from how he was whining Annabeth imagined he was.
"What Gamora does it just as hard and you seen to like it..." Drax said and there was a moment of silence through both ships, and the thud of something else hitting the ground along with a groan of pain sounded.
"That wasn't meant for you to hear." Gamora's voice was now much closer and much clearer to hear and Rocket started laughing uncontrollably.
"Ahaha. The great assassin Gamora likes it hard." The communication line cut off and Rocket only cackled harder in response. Annabeth was looking at the controls with a flushed face and she felt a hand on her shoulder.
"What's got you so red?" It was Natasha and Annabeth only turned away with a short, "Nothing," in return.
----------------------------
A few minutes later, after Rocket -still somehow killing monsters underneath everyone while doing so - was done dying of laughter, he reinitiated a call with Quill's ship and the first thing they heard from the other line was Thor muttering "-- sorry."
"Why are you apologizing to me?" Quill's voice sounded, "Apologize to him, and then the others for your own stupidity."
"I'm sorry" came again after a suppressed sigh and Cap's voice sounded a moment later.
"I'm fine," he dismissed the man and there was a moment of silence before the same apology came towards the communications line.
Annabeth raised an eyebrow, "What for?" She asked and there was a crunch of something on the other end of the line as it stayed silent. Annabeth frowned, her opinion of Thor plummeting by the second...
"I'm sorry for almost knocking your ship out of the sky and not paying attention to my surroundings." That apology sounded mechanical, like Thor was reading off of something and, knowing the god's mannerisms, Annabeth imagined he was reading it off of something.
"Good enough." She said and a random thought entered her brain, "Hey Gamora why didn't you join us on Stella?"
"Because someone had to stay with Quill to make sure he didn't fuck something up again." Her reply was immediate, almost repetitive and Annabeth smirked. "Why is Rocket on your's? He's not a female?" Annabeth looked at the person in question and shrugged.
"...good point," she said and that got a roar of outrage from him.
"Hey! I don't need babysitting!!" He yelled and Annabeth smirked.
"I know"
"Huh?" Rocket's attitude hit an immediate halt and he looked at her confused. His ears back and his head slightly tilted subconsciously in response.
"I was referring to you being with us since you're the only male on the ship, provided you aren't human, but neither is Gamora so the point still stands." Annabeth smirked and Rocket looked like he wanted to retort but instead he just huffed and went back to shooting things in his seat. "Hey Stella how close are we to seeing this other group now?"
We should have a visual in 5 Annabeth hummed, five minutes wasn't...
4...3....2...
Annabeth looked forward as the ship turned a corner and what she was was absolute chaos: There was a giant mass of the creatures converging on what seemed to be a single person, body parts and dust flying with every flash of fire-light cast by that same person's hammer causing a blast fire to appear with every strike. Annabeth was about to question why he was alone when she noticed a flash of light from atop one of the near-by buildings, incinerating a long row of monsters and continuing on for a while before fading, and there was a shadowed figure dancing between the larger of the monsters; every strike of shadows causing a monster to collapse into a pile of shiny silver dust.
"Lets get over there and help" Annabeth said and Rocket pushed the ship forwards and Annabeth started firing. Wanda and Natasha went to the rear of the ship and lowered the landing bay so they could start shooting or blasting monsters with bullets and scarlet energy. "Quill you guys get the guy fighting with the hammer and we'll get the shadowy one..."
There was a pulse of darkness as a female figure appeared on the landing dock just behind Natasha and Wanda. The two were about to attack said figure when Annabeth stopped them. "Wait, she's one out side. I think"
"You think?" Wanda asked incredulously and the warrior nodded.
"I am on your side. We just got swarmed by them much faster than expected and haven't been able to move on since, but seeing that you're here for us it seems that we weren't needed in the first place." The warrior went over and sat in a chair. "Just get Forge and Sundrop please," she then seemed to pass out.
Annabeth and the other two women looked at each other in confusion for a moment, but one of the monsters jumping on the landing bay snapped them out of it and Natasha shot it's head off.
"Alright I guess we're going to get the guy on the roof shooting the lasers and they can get the one with the hammer then." Wanda said and Annabeth nodded.
"Stella, if you would..."
Understood, her mechanical sounding voice replied and the ship rotated for a moment to go towards the roof where the lasers of light were still being fired periodically. When they got there there was a man with a bow shooting what looked like an arrow of light past them, but when the arrow was fired it turned into a beam of energy that continued to fire while the man knocked another arrow and changed direction. Stopping only when he saw Stella heading towards him and lowering his bow as the ship turned around for him to enter.
"Hey I'm not the only male on the ship now!" A yell from the cockpit sounded and the man's mouth quirked up from underneath the hood, and then he noticed the lady and rushed over to her with his palms lit up and waving them around her for a moment.
"Alright she's just exhausted, glad it wasn't anything serious." They said taking off their hood and rushing over to the sleeping women in similar attire, "Hi I'm Sundrop, glad you came to help."
A bit of a shorter chapter this one...sorry about that, but i wanted to show a bit more of what's going on around the city and with the other Warriors without actually engaging in too much fighting. I also was trying to work on showing budding relationships between the Avengers, Guardians, Warriors, and Annabeth but I don't know how that turned out well enough still...
Anyways I hope you enjoyed this chapter and I'm glad I'm closer to the end of the book now that it's finishing: one, for my own peace of mind, two, for pride's sake, and three, because I'm determined to make a book, finished, with at least fifty chapters to prove to myself that it's possible.
P.S. -- I've found that I like 1st Person POV much better than 3rd and while I could just switch back for the final stages I won't for consistancy's sake.
P.P.S. -- I still don't understand Drax's character and likely never will so he's a bit of a pain to imitate.
(Also I keep forgetting what P.S. means when using it and have to look it up every time to remind myself -_-)
