Chapter 44
Percy felt a multitude of emotions running through him when he heard that voice. It she hadn't talked first he would likely have smelled her as the wind blew Annabeth's wondrous scent towards him. It made all of his entire being shake with desire, but now was not the time...he'll just have to be a little more patient and then destroy the fucker that orchestrated her capture in the first place.
Percy closed his eyes for a moment and took a few deep breaths to calm himself down but when he looked back up his heart continued to race. Annabeth was alive, and she wasn't missing any limbs or organs, she looked almost...annoyed. He'd seen her annoyed before, but this time was different, it wasn't directed at him this time and he didn't know whether he liked or disliked that. Sadly the flashes of light in the distance were getting closer and closer with each passing moment and this little stand-still that Annabeth had gotten into with the woman Percy had been fighting wasn't helping things...not to mention Percy could smell that the other four were going to be here soon too.
"Well," Annabeth asked, a flicker of fire arcing behind her like a solar flare. "Are you going to say something or will I have to come down there and break him out before the monsters get here." Annabeth didn't comment that she could see how easily Percy's claws were cutting into the metal.
If he can escape, and knows it. He probably wants to make it as dramatic as possible. She almost shook her head at his blithe indifference to the situation. That seaw--she couldn't use that anymore...
All thoughts for later Annabeth focused on the woman getting ready to fight and sighed. Why couldn't anything be easy for them?
"You know that there are a lot of monsters coming this way right?" Annabeth pointedly motioned towards the ship shooting in the distance and the towers of dark creatures trying to grab it every so often. "There are more important things than keeping my mate trapped in a cage when, as a god, he could pretty easily deal with what's coming." She saw the lopsided smirk he gave her...and ignored it. She would teach him a lesson about his stupidity later...
Percy watched as Annabeth tried to get the other woman to see her side of things, and consequently what he was also trying to warn them about, but she wasn't having any of it and soon a blast of red energy was flung in Annabeth's direction and Annabeth deflected it with a dagger. A dagger made of fire Percy noticed.
The two went at it for a moment and Percy saw that the speedster was about to intervene.
"No you don't." Percy growled and immediately Quicksilver ceased moving. His form stuck in that of a sprinter's run, but his eyes were wide with shock slowly looking over at Percy. "Stay."
That had seemingly distracted the woman enough for Annabeth to punch her with a blast of fire, sending the Red Witch flying through a few buildings once more. And that's the moment the others decided to show up...
------------------------------
It had taken a while for Tony and the others to actually get to where they wanted to go, despite the path being a straight shot it was clear that all of them were heavily injured and in no condition to fight. However, that all changed when Wanda's figure came flying past them and into the side-wall of the tunnel of destruction. Steve and Clint immediately went over to check on her, and Tony and Natasha readied for battle once more. Tony put another suit on his chest and Natasha checked her guns and blades.
Then a girl walked into the tunnel with them and they all stopped, shocked.
"I don't want to fight the Avengers, but know this. Whether you help or not there is a giant army of monsters coming this way and I intend on freeing Percy before they get here." She said and the rest of the team looked at each other with apprehension. If he was anything to go by how strong was she?
Natasha acted quickly in spite of this and started shooting in Annabeth's direction. The bullets either missed or turned into molten steel that circled around her with each shot, and eventually both guns were empty and when Natasha went to reload a blast of fire came towards her. Fire of which was blocked by Cap's shield and they all shuddered internally. This girl was only using fire and while she didn't look strong she certainly knew how to fight.
Annabeth looked at the hero's in front of her with an emotion she never thought she'd have when seeing these people...annoyance. She was annoyed that they had not only made this harder on her, but also that they were acting selfishly and not even trying to look at the bigger picture; she was annoyed that even though she looked up to them and she revered them as the first group of people, not just mortals, but people that she respected other than those in Camp Half-Blood. She was done trying to get them to see that they were fighting against the wrong people and it saddened her to see how far they'd fallen in this fight.
Not only were they willing to in-prison a kid, sure Percy was an ultimate being that they didn't understand, he still should be seen as a kid in their eyes. And they were willing to fight said 'kid' and almost lose their lives just to get him in a stupid cage when there was a war on the horizon. She just didn't understand it, and maybe she never would, maybe getting turned immortal and blessed by a goddess, granted it was the goddess of the Hearth and Hope, but still maybe it was causing her to lose touch with people she'd met or wanted to meet...
Annabeth just wanted a nice few months with Percy without some crazy shit happening out of no where, and if these hero's didn't stop and open their eyes she guessed that the only thing left to do was make them.
However she didn't want to kill them, and maybe that's why it was harder then she thought it would be.
The molten steel churning around her eventually turned into a set of daggers and Annabeth covered the weapons in fire, it might not really do anything other than hurt and burn more but it sure looked cool to use... But dealing with being attacked from multiple angles at all times was starting to frustrate her, despite how they acted they were a really good team when working together, and that's why Annabeth respected them so much. And even though she knew Percy could get out at any time and stop this she also hoped he'd stay back and let her handle this, act like he was counting on her to get him out of the cage.
Annabeth didn't realize that Rocket had studied the cage and was trying to cut through it as she fought, and she probably never would as Percy looked at the bipedal raccoon and tilted his head confused.
"Why are you trying to help me out instead of fighting with them to keep me here?" He asked and the torch kept on going on that single bar.
"Because as much as I don't like trying to help out all-powerful beings hell-bent on ruling the universe. I like her more and she helped me out a few times so this is the least I can do in return." The raccoon stopped for a moment, pointing behind him at the chaos down the street, "And because I sure as fuck don't want to be caught in that hell-hole. I've fought enough beings...and people to know when I need to cut my looses and run, or help out someone that can deal with what's coming."
"Wow. I didn't expect to see someone else with such an analytical mind other than my mate, Annabeth." Percy grinned, "Especially not a talking raccoon that likes guns."
"And ships" the raccoon murmured and Percy laughed.
"And ships" He grinned and there were two flashes of light that made Rocket jump back instinctively and the metal bars his torch had such a hard time even heating up slid apart into sections. The top and bottom of that side slid in opposite directions and a multitude of perfectly severed pieces rained down to the street below.
"You. You could've done that this whole time and instead you make me sit there and waste time with this?!" Rocket practically screeched but all he saw when looking into Percy's eyes was the depths of a being so far beyond his comprehension that he could barely keep his sanity. Then the connection severed when a hand rubbed the top of his head, focused on his ears specifically and it felt goood---Rocket swiped the hand away and glared at Percy, not quite meeting his eyes but high enough to have seemed to, and jumped back onto the ramp of the ship Annabeth had appeared on.
"You're just going to sit there until the monsters get here aren't you?" Rocket sighed seeing Percy's grin turn into a twisted fanged smile, "I'm gonna go and blow shit up now." The raccoon said walking further in as the ramp closed behind him.
Hello. Sorry if this seems a bit rushed but I wanted to keep to the schedule i had planned out and while I failed in updating these few days past I hope that the double update is a welcome surprise...and apology.
Anyways I hope you enjoyed and while I have no idea how much longer this final fight will go one I can say that this is probably the rising action and the climax will likely be in the next two or so chapters...maybe three.
See you in the next one!
