Chapter 23

Percy and Annabeth were ushered over to the elevator by the person at the front desk. She had said, "Mr. Stark will see you now. FRIDAY will show you to your waiting area."

"Who's FRIDAY?" Percy started to ask, but the elevator doors had closed, leaving Annabeth and him alone in a silent elevator.

'Hello Percy, Annabeth, my name is FRIDAY, short for Female Replacement Intelligent Digital Assistant Youth, designed and implemented after my predecessor, Jarvis, was assimilated into the being known as Vision.' The room was filled with a female voice of unknown origins and Percy looked at Annabeth for an explanation.

"What are you looking at me for? I had no idea there are an advanced form of artificial intelligence in charge of the building." Annabeth said and Percy growled disapprovingly.

"So where are you bringing us?" Percy decided to ask aloud looking around for a moment before deciding to just stare at the camera.

'I am to direct you to the meeting place and Mr. Stark will meet with you shortly.' FRIDAY responded and Percy growled again unimpressed and full of discomfort.

"How do you work and what are your values towards life?" Annabeth asked while Percy lent against the railing staring at the elevator doors with a heavy glare.

'I cannot relay such information' FRIDAY said and Annabeth turned silent in thought while Percy groaned.

"Great. We're in an elevator controlled by a robot that has no problems taking lives," He growled and turned to the camera, "At least tell us where it is we are meeting him."

'You will see' FRIDAY said and Percy growled at it while Annabeth turned deeper in thought with a mutter, "It has a personality as well..."

Eventually the elevators opened and Percy stepped out hand in hand with Annabeth and they were both lead to the 'Testing Room' where a hidden door raised into the wall and closed behind them as they went in. Once inside the entire area lit up with light to reveal a room at least fifty by a hundred feet wide with every visible surface lined with white panels that were six- by-six feet wide each.

"Hey what did you say this room was for again?" Percy yelled out

'I did not' FRIDAY responded, 'Mr. Stark will be with you within five minutes.'

"Dammit," Percy muttered and Annabeth chuckled.

"Percy its an advanced form of intelligence, things like that may work on normal people, but not AI" Annabeth smirked and Percy just huffed and looked around instead.

"What do you think this room is used for?" He asked her after a moment and she looked around for a moment as well.

"It kinda looks like a sort of training room honestly," she said, "Look at the walls for instance. Even from here I can tell that most if not all of them are designed to be easily replaced, or maybe even repaired on the spot and I can only guess that somewhere hidden around us would be the weapons compartments."

"Why is it so white though?" Percy huffed scratching at a wall with a clawed finger, and seeing that his claw went through without much resistance stopped and went to try and focus on something else. The only other thing in the room being his 'soon to be' Annabeth and his admiration of her body was interrupted by a hissing noise before a panel on the ceiling, larger than the others now that Percy was focused on it, opened a moment before a flying metal figure came through.

The figure soon came closer to them were Percy was able to better see that it was the same metal man from before at the Empire State Building when he encountered that witch lady. He came to a stop around fifteen feet from the two and Percy stepped forwards and slightly over to overlap Annabeth's figure with his body.

"Hey metal man. Where's the witch lady?" Percy quipped and the metal man did not look impressed. Instead the golden part of the helmet opened and they both saw the middle aged man inside.

"I am Tony Stark, better known as Iron Man, and you two are in big trouble." He said and Percy frowned.

"That sounded rehearsed," He snorted looking at Tony amused, "Did you rehearse that on your way here? Or is it just the first thing you say to teenagers off the street?" Tony's frown deepened and he just grumbled something about "teenage behavior" that Percy didn't care much to hear.

"If I'm right, and I am, you are both the same age, if not older, than I am fangface" Tony shot back and Percy grinned.

Fangface? That's a new one... Percy went on the defensive immediately upon realizing and his entire body moved over to stand in front of Annabeth.

"You can see through the Mist," Percy growled, "What do you want and why are we here?"

"The Mist?" Tony paused for a moment, "That doesn't matter right now, I have some questions that I want to ask you both and you are going to answer them." He said and Percy huffed and crossed his arms. Standing without a care in the world.

"Look man I don't know what you think but other than the fact you can see what I actually look like you don't have any clue what your getting yourself into here." He said and Tony just closed his helmet back up, the eyes glowing blue and his systems firing up. "I don't want to hand you your ass dude. I just want to let My Annabeth have a nice last day of vacation and then you'll probably never see us again."

Tony was just staring at him silently and Percy growled, "Fine what are your questions. I am not leaving and we are not being separated so ask them here." Tony paused, from how this was going it seemed like he was going to have to fight and then bring them in later.

"Okay." Tony stopped getting ready for combat and let his guard down a little to ask the questions that have been nagging at his mind, "First I want to ask what the Mist is?"

"That's the thing that keeps Mortals, or you, from seeing my side of the world: monsters, people like My Annabeth, and the gods." That brought up a lot more questions that Tony wanted to ask but he decided to save it for later.

"Okay second question—" Percy huffed

"How many question do you want to ask? I don't want us here all day man." He growled and Tony went quiet.

"You don't need to know." He said and Percy growled turning go the side and looking at Annabeth.

"What do you want to do?" He asked her and she looked conflicted. Annabeth really has just wanted to look around the Avengers tower for a little while and then go around New York for the rest of the day before she was no longer going to be entirely human.
Sure she was immortal, thanks to those selfish gods, but that only gave her more time to spend with Percy whether she took up the mantle that was his new race. And that was the real thing that made her happy.

"I guess we can go and visit your father, I'm gonna have to get used to reappearing down there every so often anyways, so might as well get used to it now. Plus it sounds like he is less the crazy man that we saw during our time down there together last time, so maybe I'll be able to understand what he's really like." Annabeth said and Percy turned towards her and grabbed her hands gently with his own.

"Are you sure? I'm surprised you weren't having a hard time in the elevators as it is during our time together." He asked and Annabeth nodded.

"I need to do this Percy. Whether I want to or not I'll be going down there again every so often. And this way, once I get used to it, it'll be even harder to separate us as well always have a place to meet and stay for however long we want." She said pecking him on the lips quickly to show how much she cared. She wanted to fully kiss him, but with the living suit of armor nearby she was too embarrassed as it was to do so. "First however is the problem of actually getting out of here, and without too much collateral." Percy huffed.

"I think tearing my way out of the ground would be a pretty damn good warning to not mess with me, or you." He said and she poked his chest.

"No you will not tear your way out of here. I still want to come back, and I am not leaving on too bad of terms with them, even if they end up forgetting in a few decades." Annabeth said and Percy rolled his eyes.

"I wasn't going to tear my way out of the place anyways. I don't want all of them chasing us down through the city...not right now at least." Percy grinned and Annabeth rolled her eyes this time.

"You are not coming back here just for a fight" Annabeth growled and Percy's grin just got wider, "You are not coming back here after I turn, I will not let you." She glared at him but he did not care. He just opened a portal right next to them and moved to step through.

"Hey! Do you think I'm just going to let you leave?" Tony yelled and Percy looked back at him with a bored look and just continued on towards the portal with Annabeth in tow.

Suddenly a beam of light interrupted Percy's path and caused them both to stop. Percy looked over at Tony with the most lethal wolf glare he's ever needed to use, and that caused Tony's body to freeze up unconsciously. He's never felt anything like that pressure in his entire life: not when the Chitauri came from the void in the sky, not when Loki almost screwed up New York, not even when facing Thanos either times. His body never felt such fear that it overrode his sense of self preservation.

"Do that again and I'll rip off all your limbs and feed you to a Drakon" Percy promised and Tony could only watch as the two went through, Annabeth first while Percy watched Stark, and Percy last. Then, only when the portal closed, Tony could feel his body again and it felt as if he'd just waded out of a giant mud pit.

All of his senses were on high alert, and he was having a hard time moving again, even the suit that aided him in moving felt like just a heavy metal weight. At that moment Steve and Bruce walked in, and they looked around confused before coming up to the fear-stricken iron man.

"Hey, Tony where'd the kids go?" Steve asked coming up and waving a hand in front of the helmet. Bruce was hanging back a little studying Tony's behavior as something seemed off.

"Hey FRIDAY can you show us his vitals," He asked and a display popped up on Tony's chest, and Bruce immediately saw that he was having a sort of panic attack, high heart rate, adrenaline, and a few other signs but he wasn't moving at all.

"What happened here FRIDAY?" Bruce asked after a moment and she gave them a summary of what had happened and concluded that his symptoms were like that of an animal being preyed upon. FRIDAY then told the two of what needed to happen and sent a small shock through Tony's neck, knocking him out.

It then took control of the suit and let Tony out so that Steve could carry him to the recovery room and while Steve did that Bruce grabbed the compact Suitcase and brought it along as well.
