Why Are You Here?
Taehyung's POV-
"So you agree that this could work."
"Well... it's risky but I think it makes sense. If she went as far as she did with Chanyeol, someone who has been like a brother to her, then I don't see why she would hold back at all with you.
"Especially since she knows you know more than he does about Jungkook specifically. You will have the element of surprise on your side, that's for sure. There's no way she would anticipate you coming to her."
"But is it crazy?"
"Oh absolutely it is, but when have you not been one to take risks? And the drama of the situation is incredibly seductive. I am almost tempted to meet you there so I can catch the show." She says with a smile in her voice.
"I'll request we leave the door unlocked. I wouldn't mind an audience." I smile.
"I'll think about it." She chuckles lightly. "But really, she is not herself. I love Irene but she has completely lost it. You are smart and I don't doubt you can handle yourself, but be careful."
"I will. Thank you and if you don't end up making the show, I'll tell you about it later."
"If you make it to later." She says under her breath.
"Thank you for the support Seulgi." I scoff.
"Bye Tae. Fighting."
I hang up the phone as I pull out of Suho's neighborhood and onto the busy road.
I know this is risky, but if she is going to be coming for me anyway I would rather take any advantage I can to have some sort of control of the situation.
I have a general plan of action but honestly it's going to be a whole lot of improvisation. Although, when are my schemes not heavily improvised.
Seulgi couldn't ask Irene to confirm if she was home because that would raise suspicion (I am still her boyfriend as far as Irene is concerned and if Seulgi were to ask if she were home and then I happen to show up a few hours later that would look strange.) So I am going to her place just hoping she is there.
If she is there that's great but if not then I'll just try back tomorrow.
I was able to get ahold of Kai who happened to still be at their company when I called and he said he hasn't seen her since this morning so hopefully that means she's home.
During my drive I had to turn my phone off because Yoongi would not stop calling me. I know you shouldn't ignore your boss, but I need positive vibes right now not his delayed panic and negativity.
I finally arrive at the apartment building about an hour later and pull into the concrete parking structure. After exiting the car I climb the few flights of stairs and make my way into the lobby.
I've become pretty well acquainted with the doormen and front desk girls in the building so I have no trouble getting in.
After some short greetings I walk into the elevator I've called down and press the button for her floor.
When the elevator dings and the doors open, I take a deep breath before stepping out into the hallway. It's empty and it's silent.
I roll my neck a few times to loosen the building tension in my shoulders as I make my way to her door.
Here we go. I raise my fisted hand and knock a few times, not too hard but loud enough to be heard clearly.
A minute or so later there is no answer and as I'm about to knock again the door opens... to a man.
"May I help you?"
My mouth about hits the floor, but I quickly pull myself together. I wasn't expecting him to be the one to open the door.
"Yes, I was looking for Bae Joohyun. Is she here?" I say with my most charming smile.
"I'm sorry, there's not anyone here by that name."
I raise my brow at him as I study his face.
He's a very good looking man, with his wide shoulders back and his head held high. His aura screams authority and intimidation, but he doesn't seem like a bad man. Disciplined, strong willed and perhaps stubborn, but not bad. Not cold blooded. Not a murderer.
"Tell her Kim Taehyung is here."
He opens his mouth, obviously about to tell me to leave by the way his eyebrows are creased in annoyance, when a soft voice rings out from somewhere inside the apartment.
"It's okay Hyuk. Please bring him in."
He looks at me with suspicious eyes as he opens the door fully and steps aside to let me in.
I walk in and am immediately in awe at the delicate floral painting hanging in the entry above a small antique looking cabinet. I remove my shoes and follow him into a sitting area that is decorated in cream and nude tones with pink accents.
Irene is seated on a luxurious looking cream colored sofa, curled up in a fuzzy pink blanket with a book on her lap and a pair of glasses perched on the tip of her nose. She eyes me intensely as Hyuk directs me to sit on the matching sofa across from her.
I take a seat while moving my eyes around the room, genuinely admiring my surroundings.
"This space is gorgeous. So aesthetically cohesive. I would love a tour of the rest of the apartment if we have time." I say as I move my eyes back to her with a smile.
She is not amused. She continues to stare as she slowly removes her glasses before looking away to place them along with her book on the end table to her right.
She dabs the sides of her nose with her ring finger softly where her glasses were rested before bringing her full attention back to me.
She pokes the inside of her cheek with her tongue a few times as she clamps her hands together in her lap. Her eyes eventually leave mine as she examines the rest of my appearance.
"You are very handsome Taehyung." She says not in a complimentary tone but instead in a matter of fact tone of voice.
I smile wider at her. "Thank you. That means especially a lot coming from you as you have such an impressive taste in men."
Her mouth turns down into a frown at my words while I continue to smile at her.
"Now then, what is it I can help you with? I'd really like to get the talking out of the way so you can show me what else you've done with the place."
She continues to stare at me without saying a word and I do the same, patiently waiting for her to start in on her interrogation regarding Jungkook and his mother, but instead she says something rather unexpected.
"How long have you owned that unit in this building?"
Awe, so she has noticed her new neighbor.
"Since the day you sent those medical records." I beam.
Her eyes widen slightly before her expression returns back to emotionless.
She hadn't known about this until recently I take it.
"I've been rather disappointed in you actually. I heard how thoughtful your welcome gifts can be and I have yet to receive mine." I pout.
"Don't patronize me." She hisses in annoyance. "Why are you here?"
I tilt my head and click my tongue at her tone. "You should really work on your hosting skills. Your personality doesn't match the decor."
"Why are you here?" She repeats curtly.
Now I'm getting annoyed. She knows why I'm here. My expression is wiped clear as I lean forward with my elbows on my knees while I stare at her with the same cold eyes she's been giving me.
"I heard you wanted to talk. So let's talk."
