Sixty-Five Days
Jungkook's POV-
Light slowly starts beaming through my closed eyelids.
I try to lift my head but I can't. I am able to crack my eyes open, something that was nearly impossible to do before my bath, but I am still having trouble moving my body.
"He-" I attempt to call out but I have something in my throat.
I start to gag at the sensation.
It's deep. So deep that I can feel it putting pressure inside my chest.
My tongue instinctively moves to feel what this thing is.
It's smooth and plastic feeling. Narrow as well.
I think it's a... tube?
I can't breath. This is choking me.
I can't breath. I can't breath!
I try to move my hands up to my face then notice that there is an IV in my arm and a plastic clip on my finger. Is it a heart monitor?
I slide the clip off my finger and remove the IV needle from my arm before I am free to bring my hands up to my face and remove the tape that is on my cheeks holding the tube in place.
In the middle of my panic I hear a man's voice yell out from beside me.
"Go find the doctor! Hurry!"
I hear loud footsteps pass the foot of the bed seconds before a darker haired man appears, standing over me.
I'm stunned, my hands freezing, not knowing if I should be scared or not of him but definitely feeling incredibly uneasy and dazed as to where I am and who this person is who's staring down at me looking like they've seen a ghost.
He doesn't look like a doctor.
He watches as I bring my hands to my face again to continue peeling up the edges of the tape in order to remove it. Once the tape is pulled off I grab ahold of the tube and begin to pull. He starts to convulse at the site before he too runs out of the room.
I'm gagging too. My throat is so fucking dry that this goddamn thing feels like it's scraping every nerve in my esophagus as it inches out of my body. Eventually I get it out of me.
I can feel the muscles in my midsection contracting and cramping up, causing excruciating pain.
I groan in agony and discomfort, rolling from side to side, holding my stomach, eyes closed as tightly as possibly.
Not long after that I hear multiple voices calling out my name. I move my eyes to the door just as a man in a white lab coat followed by two women in dark navy outfits move towards my bed, all three with horrified expressions on their faces.
One of the women rounds my bed to stand on my left, the other moves to stand on my right behind the doctor as he stops next to where my head is rested on the pillows.
I continue to cough loudly as I am finding it hard to catch my breath.
"Have some water brought in quickly," he instructs the nurse behind him and she turns and rushes out of the room.
He tilts my head up with a shaky hand, causing me to raise my eyes and he flashes a bright flashlight in both of my eyes as the pain in my abdomen slowly starts to subside.
I am left breathing heavily but my pain has turned into a low pulsing ache by the time the girl returns with a cup of water.
She brings the straw sticking that's liking pic of the cup to my lips so I can more easily take large gulps of the cold liquid.
As soon as it hits my tongue I feel an incredible amount of relief as it coats and slides down my scraped up throat.
Within seconds the sound of the straw slurping, not in taking anymore water hits my ears, I disconnect my lips, meeting eyes with the girl.
"Can I please have more?" I ask in a squeaky voice that I don't even recognize as my own.
She looks at the doctor after she hears my question, silently asking if he thinks it's okay for me to drink more.
He gives her a nod before she hurries back out the door to get more water.
"Jungkook, I have a few questions to ask you," he informs as he raises the clipboard in his hands so he can write. "Do you know what the date is today?"
"November Fifteenth. I know I got here last night because it was dark out and I can see the sun now. What time is it?"
He hesitates after I answer, throwing a glance at the nurse to my left before scribbling something down on his clipboard.
"Who were those guys?" I ask, glancing around the room and seeing no one but the doctor and the two women– likely nurses. "The ones that were here before you came in?"
His pen stills as he snaps his eyes up to meet mine.
His lips are pressed so tightly they almost look white.
He doesn't say anything else. Instead it's one of the nurses who speaks next.
"You didn't recognize them?"
The girl with the water comes back into the room and is at my side before I can answer. Instead of speaking I just shake my head as no before she brings the straw to my lips and I finish this cup too.
After I've pulled away I move my eyes back up the the doctor. "Where's Tae? Can I see him please? Where is he?"
He either ignores or doesn't hear me as he looks at one of the machines set up next to the bed, continuing to scribble on his clipboard.
"You mean Taehyung?" The same nurse on my left asks as she moves the loose collar of my hospital gown and places a stethoscope to my chest.
I wince at the cold object before nodding my head in confirmation.
"We will get ahold of him and have him come down."
"I'll call him." A voice says from the doorway. "I've just spoken with JK- Jungkook's mother as well."
My mother..? He called my mother?
"Thank you. That would be wonderful," The nurse smiles at the man. "If you will please wait outside and we will come and speak with you, Taehyung as well when he arrives, in a few minutes. Let me know when you all are here."
"Jungkook, do you know why you are here?" The doctor asks while looking down at me.
"I know this is the hospital... I know I'm here because..." my brows furrow. "I was taking a bath and I went under the water. I couldn't pull myself up.... my arms wouldn't move. I went under the water then he saved me." I smile softly.
He looks to the nurse on my left again before putting his attention back on the clipboard. I hear the sound of velcro being ripped and look at the nurse as she moves the sleeve of my hospital gown up and secures the cuff tightly around my arm to take my blood pressure.
"When will Tae be here? I need to see him. He will be able to take me home. I can't miss another day of school! I have a project due and I'm behind on it." I plead looking between the three people standing around me.
"He will be here soon but until he gets here I have just a few more tests to run as well as a few more questions."
"What type of questions?"
"Well..." he lets out a long breath as he lowers his hands with the clipboard to rest in front of him.
He gives me a long, appraising stare before he takes another deep breath.
"Jungkook, you have been in a coma for sixty-five days. The accident you had, you went without oxygen for several minutes. You suffered from Brain Hypoxia, or lack of oxogen to the the brain. You were found by a Min Yoongi in your bathtub, underwater, and he pulled you out.
"You weren't breathing so he performed CPR and saved your life. We think you were without oxygen for about four to five minutes before he found you and then another five at least before the CPR was successful.
"Medics arrived soon after and you were in and out of consciousness during the first few hours you were here, then you lost consciousness and have been unconscious since."
I stare at him with wide eyes, mouth agape, unblinking as he says these awful things.
Unconscious? Sixty-five days?! Min what?
"Who?"
"You don't recognize that name?"
I shake my head. "Tae is the one who found me. He saved me! I don't know who that man is but he didn't find me, Tae did!" My voice, although still cracking and squeaking, starts to get louder as I continue to speak.
"Please, I just want Tae. Please. Please ask him to come get me!" My eyes well with tears and my hands start to shake.
I just want Tae to take me away from here. To take me home.
"He is on his way Jungkook. He should be here any minute. We just need to ask a few more questions. We'll be done before you know it, I promise," the nurse on my left says in a soothing tone as she pats my arm softly.
I look at her and she gives me what I'm sure she meant to be a reassuring smile but it's not helping my nerves at all.
"Okay..." I nod as my tears continue to build and fall.
I lay back on my pillow, staring up at the ceiling.
I take a few deep breaths as they continue to ask their questions.
I'm trying my best to be calm and not get upset again, but I just want them to leave.
I don't want to answer questions. I just want Tae.
