I Know You Know
Taehyung's POV-
"Yoongi" I sigh into the phone. "I don't know exactly where his Grandfather is. All I know is that they are leaving this morning sometime to go to him."
"But where is he?"
"I don't know where he is!" I say in a raised voice, getting annoyed at having to answer the question for the fourth time now.
"That's bullshit Taehyung!" He snaps at me "Mrs Jeon tells you everything. Why the fuck would this be any different."
Truthfully, yes I do know where they are headed, but I've been asked not to share it so I am not going tell Yoongi because the man has gone crazy and is thinking only with emotion and no logic whatsoever.
He has made an exit plan of his own that consists of him finishing the things at the company he needs to do, then putting in his notice to quit with the intention of joining Koo in witness protection, that we don't even know will be a sure thing.
Even Mrs Jeon doubts they will have to do that again because they, meaning she and her father, don't think anyone has connected her new identity to Mr Jeon's as they were quick to bump up the security on her information on the military's side after his murder.
They even moved her and Koo from where they had been living on the outskirts of Busan into the busier suburbs after it happened.
When Mrs Jeon explained this to Koo as well as any other things he didn't understand, like his Grandfather and the letter to Irene, along with well the many other questions he had he took all the new information in with barely any emotion.
I told Yoongi when he called last night from his studio with questions about the witness protection process to sleep on the idea and apparently he did the opposite.
Once he had the idea mapped out for the most part he spent the rest of the night calling Koo over and over again wanting to apologize and tell him he found a solution but, of course, Koo didn't answer.
When Yoongi finally gave up calling Koo he called to have me give him Koo's location or any information but I couldn't give him anything.
From where Koo sits on the couch staring up at me with the tearful eyes I've become much too familiar with, I continue to hear Yoongi's desperate words into the receiver.
Yoongi left voicemails but Koo couldn't bring himself to listening to them. When Yoongi called me after Koo arrived though he asked me to put it on speaker so he could hear Yoongi's voice.
It's turned out to be quite an enlightening call because I told Koo (only after he asked) what the first draft was of the plan but since this call started I have heard it in much more detail. So I am hearing this more solid plan for the first time just as Koo is. And he is one hundred percent against it.
At one point during the call Yoongi had explained his rationalization that if Mrs and Mr Jeon were able to get new identities together than why couldn't he talk to The General and have him do the same thing for Koo and himself.
"Have him do the same." That made me really roll my eyes. Like you can just go to a General in the military and just have them do anything.
From where Koo sits on the couch, he continues to stare up at me with sad eyes while he listens quietly.
"I know that you know where he is. Please, Tae. Please tell him to answer. He can't hate me. You told me he wouldn't hate me!"
"I said that he would eventually understand that going with his mother is the best thing for his safety" I say as I look at Koo for confirmation that what I'm saying is true. He nods his head sadly.
He waves his hand just before I'm about to say more and mouths tell him I didn't mean it.
"I also said that sometimes when he's emotional, just like all of us do, he says things in the heat of the moment. He didn't mean what he said. He does want to see you Yoongi. He wants to be with you again as soon as possible."
Jungkook nods quickly, almost as if he's hoping Yoongi can in some way sense the action despite not being able to see it and feel the sincerity in the statement. He doesn't, of course.
"That's a bullshit excuse too Taehyung. You saw the look in his eyes."
I'm so sick of him doubting every fucking thing I say.
My God, this man! I've never met someone more stubborn.
"May I remind you the rather short amount of time you have known Koo compared to how long I have known him. You had only seen him once in his angry and impulsive state and that was today. I've seen it many times while we were growing up and from those experiences you should be assured that what I'm saying is true."
He's quiet for a few moments. He did not like what I've said, but especially not that he knows I'm right.
"You know what? You-"
I don't need to listen to his bullshit excuse as to why he is justifying uprooting his life in such a dramatic, and frankly unnecessary, way so I interrupt him.
"Yoongi, please just take a little more time to think about making such a colossal life decision. Think about how hard you've worked to be successful. Think about your fans and how heartbroken they would be if you just disappeared without a word.
"Mrs Jeon and myself are confident that she and Koo won't be gone forever. I'm sure he'll come back as soon as this all ends, you are just going to have to be patient. Distract yourself by working harder on music, not quitting it."
"Who are you to tell me-" he begins to raise his voice even more so I cut him off again.
"Now, you are getting to the point where you are going to start saying things to me for the hundredth time that you'll end up apologizing for later so I'm going to go now. Get some sleep.
"Lack of rest gives you wrinkles and right now you look younger than you are, why not try to keep it that way. That's my advice as your amazing assistant." I say in an overly sweet tone "I'll talk to you later."
I immediately remove my phone from my ear and end the call. I walk towards the couch and set my phone, screen down after putting it on silent, on the coffee table and drop down next to Koo.
He leans into me and wraps his arms around my waist as I wrap my arms around his shoulder and he puts his head on my chest.
It's silent for a while until he speaks.
"That was kind of mean."
I scoff. "Your boyfriend is kind of mean. I just had to be mean first before he was more mean and said something before he thought about it first... like someone else did to him."
He's quiet again before I hear a faint yawn, causing me to smile a little.
"You should get some rest. Your mother is in the master bedroom I think so you can either go in there, in Chim's old room or the third option I don't recommend, would be to sleep out here on the couch. But" I bounce on my cushion so we can hear the springs creak below us, "It's not very comfortable."
He chuckles lightly as he says, "You always complain about this couch. Why can't you get a new one?"
"Everything here was purchased by my grandmother and she is immensely proud of her interior design skills. You should have seen her face when I even began to mention the possibility of getting a new dining table. Even after telling her the reason it might be needed was because one of the legs was wobbly and cracked she was still offended.
"She would be even more so if I went and bought a whole new, actually decent looking, more comfortable couch. So, this is what we have at Grandma Kim's, Koo. Take it or leave it." I laugh but I notice he doesn't laugh along with me.
I wait a few more minutes and he remains quiet. He's not snoring and he still feels rather tense so I don't think he's asleep yet.
"Koo?" I whisper out as I lean forward to see if I can get a better look at his face.
"Can we go to bed Tae?"
I sigh. This is what I was hoping to avoid from now on. The close physical proximity scenarios while I still try to fix the mess of emotions I have, but he needs me and I can't say no if he needs me.
"Yes. Let's get you in bed." I sigh. He untangles his arms from my waist and stands up, holding his hand out to me.
Once he pulls me up he keeps my hand in his as he smiles softly. "Thank you Tae."
I smile back. "You're welcome. Now let's go to bed. We can get a few hours in before you'll be going."
He nods tiredly and I lead him to Chim's old room to sleep.
