Yoongis POV-
"Where are Taehyung and Bunny?" Mrs Jeon asks as soon as Hi and I walk into General Kang's office.
"Kook stayed with Taehyung." I say in a monotone voice, keeping my eyes forward as I walk back around the desk to stand beside where Yeol is hunched over a computer monitor.
"Are they still playing it?" I ask when I see there is an ad playing instead of the news feed.
"Yeah, they-"
As soon as the reporter comes up on the screen we lean closer to the monitor reflexively to listen to the story that's broke.
"For those of you who are just tuning in, a body was discovered earlier today near a rear entrance of one of the country's most prestigious talent companies.
"The victim has been identified as Jang Jinyoung. Jinyoung had been a vocal coach contracted with the company to work with trainees and established artists alike for over a decade. In recent years he was best known as being the private coach to pop sensation, Irene.
"Irene has yet to release a statement regarding his passing at this time and representatives for the company could not be reached for immediate comment.
"Jinyoung is survived by a four year old daughter as well as his wife, who is expecting their second child to be born this fall.
"Authorities have not made any additional details public but from statements that have been gathered thus far, it seems as though this was a mugging. We will continue to keep you updated as more details are released." The reporter concludes as they cut back to areal footage of the parking lot and the company.
"I still can't believe this. Hyuk said he would take care of this. Is this him taking care of it?" Yeol asks in disbelief.
I take in a sharp breath as I peel my eyes away from the screen to look at Hi as she starts to explain.
"He got ahold of a contact of his, letting her know where Jinyoung's location was so that she could go to the company and ensure that no one would go into that room until trusted authorities arrived.
"When she got to the room the keypad had been fried and the door wasn't shut all the way. She said that there was still blood on the floor in the room but the room was empty. Maybe they were in a hurry and didn't have time to clean the blood, we aren't sure. In any case, he was gone.
"They must have found out about the room and moved him back to where they had originally beat him in the back of the building."
"We had thought they might stage it as a mugging because they took his wallet and watch... I guess that was the plan after all." Yeol says quietly.
"Why would they move him back to the scene of the crime? That doesn't make any sense. And were there no cameras to capture any of this went?" I ask, glancing at Hi before moving my eyes back to the monitor.
"The security footage was the first thing I checked when I got to the company yesterday. They had everything turned off on that wing of the building. To the parking lot, the parking garage, stairwells, hallways, everything. It was all off."
"Won't the police be able to see that?" Mrs Jeon asks quietly. "That they were shut off inexplicably during all of this?"
"She owns the police force. That's why we couldn't just call the cops. Yonjun's contact was going to guard the door until authorities that we know aren't dirty showed up but Irene's guys beat her to him." Hi says before she lets out an angry groan, "I don't even know how they did it all so fast."
"Were there pictures taken of the room despite it being empty? Maybe blood samples or something taken as well? There has to be some kind of leverage with that evidence to show that he was moved. That he somehow bled out inside the building but then was found outside." I say, eyes moving quickly between Yeol and Hi.
"I'm not sure. We will have to ask Yonjun what she did after she saw the room was empty." Hi says with a sigh.
"What about the guards you said that you saw in the building, Hi. You didn't see them on security footage?" Yeol asks.
She shakes her head. "No, I started on one side of the building and worked my way over. I knew they would be looking for someone but I assumed it was Yonjun."
Her expression begins to fall as she adds, "If I would have known Jinyoung was there, that he was hurt, I would have gotten there sooner. I was worried that the guards were looking for Yonjun. Not Jinyoung."
"You couldn't have known he was there Hi. None of us did." Mrs Jeon says as she walks to Hi, putting a hand on her shoulder when she gets to her. Her expression looks like she is feeling pity for Hi instead of guilt.
Why does everyone seem to feel guilty about what happened to Jinyoung but her?
Taehyung is feeling the burden of what she has done alone when she should be taking that burden all by her fucking self. Taehyung shouldn't have to feel any of the guilt he feels. Speaking of Taehyung,..
"Taehyung wanted to know if they found Jinyoung's personal phone." I say as I move my stare from Mrs Jeon to look between Yeol and Hi again. "Do you know if they did?"
"As far as I know the police didn't find anything but it's like the reporters have said, no additional details have been released. Who knows what else they found. It's still an active crime scene so we can't go check anything." Hi says as she looks back at the computer where the news story is being repeated.
As my eyes move back to Mrs Jeon it occurs to me that she has been noticeably far away from where we are at the desk with the monitors in front of us. Has she even watched this? Seen for herself any of what is going on?
"Has she seen this." I ask Yeol, keeping my eyes on Mrs Jeon.
"She... um," he clears his throat uncomfortably. "She didn't want to see it."
That sets me over the fucking edge. Taehyung is on the other side of the building in pain and she doesn't want to see it? I refuse to let him be the only one hurting from this.
Yeol must have sensed my fury because he stands up at the same time I do before stepping around me, pressing a hand to my chest to stop me from walking to her.
"Why won't you watch the footage, Mrs Jeon? Is it too difficult for you to see?" I ask in a calm but condemning tone.
"I can't..." She breaths out, finally sounding somewhat remorseful. "I don't want to hear any of it. Of what they're saying."
"Do you think he wanted to hear it?" I ask through gritted teeth as I peer around Yeol at her.
I'm managing to keep my voice controlled, even calm sounding, but make no mistake. I am furious.
"You keep asking where Taehyung is and wanting to go get him. Well let me tell you, Taehyung didn't come with me because he doesn't want to see you.
"He is so emotionally traumatized by what happened, what you caused, that I don't know if he will ever get over this without any sort of post traumatic stress. When Kook told us about the news, that they found his body, he was a mess. A complete mess.
"Between the three of us we have spent hours trying help him feel consoled enough to go even five minutes without breaking down into tears.
"Why do you think Kook's not here with me? It's because Taehyung wouldn't let go of him as he began sobbing uncontrollably all over again. All he wants is to be held by your son." I bring my hand up to my eyes to wipe my tears.
When my cheeks are somewhat dried I open my mouth with the intention to say more, but no words come out. I am so choked up that I can't speak.
The whole time I was talking I had managed to keep my breathing controlled, my face neutral (only my clenched jaw giving away that I was truly upset) but I couldn't keep my tears back any longer. This is all too much.
Yeol quickly wraps me in a tight hug. He is taller, much taller, than I am so I have always found comfort in his large bear hugs. Right now however, there is no comfort.
The sound of the door being harshly pushed open echoes through the room as Hyuk enters.
"What's happened?" I hear Hi asks as I bury my face against Yeol's chest.
"General Kim has the District Attorney for Daegu on the line now in his office. They are coming up with a plan on how to get the things we have found to the him so they can start-"
"Daegu? Why Deagu? All of this happened in Seoul." I manage to ask after pulling away from Yeol just enough so I can be heard more clearly.
"The hope is to charge her for the evidence we found that can link her to disappearances in Daegu first." Hyuk says as he walks towards Yeol and myself.
"She has the police force in Seoul pretty well controlled, but she doesn't quite have the same power in Daegu." Yeol says in a lowered voice as he loosens his hold around me.
"What will charging her in Daegu do? Why not just focus on Seoul?" I ask, brow furrowed in confusion. This seems like a waste of time.
"She has too many people on her side in Seoul, but this is not the case in Daegu. If we can get them a solid case and they can actually press charges in Daegu it will make it harder for authorities in Seoul to turn a blind eye or disregard what crimes we bring to light there. It will give us a more solid base.
"Plus, I don't think there's any way she would be expecting this. She will have to scramble to get the right people in the city paid so they can help her. We can't let her have time to do that. That's why we need to do this all as quickly as possible." Hyuk says with a content expression.
"What happened in Daegu that you can link her to?" I ask as I turn to Hyuk.
"He has his old jobs, remember? The ones that she gave him in the beginning when she first asked him to start looking into other trainees for him." Yeol says in the same calm voice.
"If we can get them to at least detain her and start investigating the evidence we have to show what she is responsible for there, we can keep looking and stacking up evidence for crimes she committed and ordered to be committed in Seoul." Hyuk says.
Just then the phone on General Kang's desk begins to ring.
"Yes." General Kang says abruptly after picking up the line.
He's quiet as we all stare at him with the phone to his ear as he listens intently to the caller.
"I will check." He says before turning to Hyuk.
"The District Attorney is asking for any audio files you have that could possibly support the documentation you've already provided."
"Let them know that we have the files but we have yet to go through them all. We will go over everything and he should have have it all tomorrow morning."
My head snaps in his direction as does Yeols before we look at each other, then back at him.
After the General repeats the message over the line he hangs up.
"We need to do this quickly and efficiently. Is that possible by tomorrow morning?" General Kang asks, looking between Hi and Hyuk.
"Is it?" Yeol and I ask simultaneously as we look between Hyuk and Hi with wide eyes.
"I have the Daegu evidence ready as far as dates of jobs, missing person's profiles as well as any other documents regarding if or when they were found.
"What the five of us need to do is work together to listen to the voice recordings on and around the dates that I have found. The Daegu case we are trying to build is the top priority-"
"What about Kook's case? We need evidence for that too. She can't just walk away from what she has done to him." I speak up quickly. That is my priority. Getting justice for Jinyoung and her other victims as well, but Kook comes first for me.
"Don't forget that I do have documented when she approached me to look into his past. I have the outline of the plan to kill him. So as far as a paper trail to prove that it wasn't a suicide and instead was a planned hit job, we have that. We just don't have anything connecting Irene physically to the crime yet.
"We can focus on solidifying his case as soon as possible. I promise. For the time being though, we need to find anything relating to Daegu. I will give you a few of the documents I have with the names as well as dates for if you two will listen to the corresponding recorded lessons."
"There are hundreds of files and thousands of hours of audio. How do you expect us to be able to listen to it all in one night? Not to mention we just found the files today!
"We haven't even had time to properly sort through them." Yeol asks with wide eyes. "You need to call him back and tell him we need two, three days minimum."
"It won't be so daunting because it will only be Irene's lessons we will listen to. Additionally, Irene only ever had three, maybe four lessons per week.
"I logged when each job was given as well as the day it was finished along with the information was sent back to her. For now we just need to focus on listening to recordings that match up with those."
"Still," I scoff. "One night?"
He nods shortly. "We'd better get started."
