Because Of Her
Jungkook's POV-
"And this is open for use from six in the morning to ten at night everyday. So pretty much whenever you get bored or whatever you can come here." Minho says as we walk between two large pool tables, on our way towards what looks to be a racket ball court.
The pool tables are parallel to a large set of windows as we've been making our way through the area I have been eyeing the basketball court the can be seen just outside.
Yoongi likes to take advantage of the fact that basketball is the one thing he bests me at. He'll brag about being so much better than me despite us only having played a handful of times.
We would play more if he had his way, but we stopped playing because I am a sore loser. Yoongi and I have that characteristic in common actually. Where we differ is that I sulk and maybe throw a tantrum when I lose while he makes excuses.
The excuses usually come down to either blaming the equipment for not working properly that was used or blaming the loss on his teammate, if he played a game and had a teammate.
The last time I even touched a basketball was when we played a game of Horse and he got an H while I spelled the whole damn word. After that loss, my ego was too bruised to play with him again.
I think while I'm here I'll make it a goal to improve enough to at least hold my own against him. Maybe practice my layups and playing defense. For that I'll need someone to play with though.
"Hey Minho, are you any good at basketball?" I ask, still looking out at the court.
"Why do people assume anyone that's tall plays basketball?" He scoffs over his shoulder as he continues walking.
"I'm not assuming anything, it's just a question. I see that there's a basketball court outside and I would like to practice with one on one games or something." I say as I jog up next to him.
"It's fine if you don't, I'd just like to practice so I can beat my boyfriend at least once in my lifetime." I say, smiling to myself as I picture Yoongi's pouty face while he whines whenever he loses at anything.
It would be beyond entertaining to see him throw his tantrum when I beat him at the only sport he's better than me at. Even more so to hear what kind of excuses he would come up with to explain why he didn't play as good as he usually does, coincidentally, every day but the day we would play.
I can picture the whole scenario and it makes me chuckle to myself.
God, I miss him already.
After Minho walks me through the rest of the facility, showing me some ping pong tables and an area with a TV and gaming system, we headed back toward the entrance where the vending machines were to grab some drinks.
As we were stepping into the hallway to the entrance I could hear crying. My initial thought was that it sounded like Tae, but that couldn't be possible. He wouldn't be here. Well, unless my mother asked-
"What the fuck?" I freeze at the entrance to the hallway as Hyuk, Tae, Yoongi and Chanyeol come into view.
"What are you all doing here?" I ask. My tone coming across as borderline accusatory when I absolutely don't mean it to be, these are just the last people I expected to be here.
Hyuk seems to show up whenever my mother needs him so I don't really need an explanation for seeing him.
Tae is mildly surprising, but with how close he is to my mother and the fact he is here the same time Hyuk is, maybe my mother did ask him to come. Yoongi and Chanyeol though? What are they doing here?
The room is silent until Minho excuses himself to leave us all to talk, while they just stare at me with all different types of emotions on their faces.
My eyes first go to Yoongi and when our eyes meet he looks like he wants to come to me but is hesitant. I look at him a bit confused by his expression when he breaks the eye contact to look at Chanyeol.
I look to Chanyeol as well and see he isn't looking at either of us but instead has his concerned eyes on Tae, which makes me move my eyes to him as well.
I gasp before I rush towards him when I see his expression after he has pulled his face away from where he had it pressed into Chanyeol's jacket sleeve to look at me.
I heard what sounded like his cries before I even saw it was actually him here, but when they walked in Chanyeol seemed to be consoling him. It wasn't until I saw his face that I could see clearly just how upset he was.
He steps away from Chanyeol's side towards me and as soon as I have him securely in my arms he begins hysterically sobbing, his whole body shaking while he wails as if he is in physical pain. I have never in all the years I have known him seen him like this.
As I stare down at him, mortified and confused, his legs buckle and he begins to slip down my body towards the floor.
While I try to keep him on his feet I look up at the three men in front me with an expression that says What in the fuck did you do to him?
They all have their eyes on Tae as they now have the same expressions of extreme pity and sadness. It was surprising to see Yoongi with this look of pity instead of his Get the hell away from my Kook look I would have expected him to have.
If whatever has upset Tae has made Yoongi step aside so I can take care of him before I give Yoongi my full attention, it's bad... Very bad.
Before Tae can get much closer to the floor I place an arm under his legs, keeping the other around his waist, and pick him up to carry him to a nearby sectional sofa that is not far from where we are stood.
Once we are sat down he continues to cry uncontrollably while he moves so he is sitting securely on my lap before bringing his knees up to his chin, curling himself into a tight ball.
The other three have followed us to the couch and as I look between them waiting for someone to tell me what the hell has happened, Hyuk has the audacity to say he has to go back to my mother and Grandfather before he turns to try to leave.
"Stop! No one is leaving until you tell me what happened to him! Who did this?"
"Your mother." Yoongi says curtly.
"My mother?" I ask, extremely confused.
"I told her this was going to happen. That he was going to die... she didn't believe me." Tae mumbles into my chest as he holds clings to my shirt tightly.
"Her plan? The one about the man? The investigator?" I ask with wide eyes, looking back up at the three stood in front of me. "What did Irene do to him?"
Tae raises his head, takes a few breaths, looking at my shirt as he holds it in his hands.
"Somehow he escaped before they left company property. He tried to get away from them but they caught up to him and beat him up so badly that he started bleeding internally. He said he thought one of his ribs cracked and punctured his lung... He was so hurt-" Tae lets out a sob, unable to continue the story.
Chanyeol speaks up quietly as he sits down on the couch beside me. "What he told Tae is that after they beat him they took his watch and his wallet but before they could take his phone someone came around the corner, walking in their direction.
"They must have heard the sounds of him being beaten and wanted to investigate. While the two guys were distracted, Jinyoung somehow got away and made it to a stairwell. From there he went as fast as he could to the room that Hyuk had sent Tae too."
"He had to have thought to go there because it could be locked securely. Only he and I knew the passcode." Hyuk says as he begins to pace uncomfortably.
"Hyuk had sent Tae to this room in the company with the intension of seeing if Jinyoung's laptop and/or hard drive were there. We had no idea he himself would be there. Yeri told Tae that she watched the two men push him into an SUV. She said that even when she saw him he was in bad shape. That he- he..." Chanyeol's voice begins to become choked with emotion, causing him to have trouble continuing.
So now Yoongi, despite his own emotions becoming harder and harder to control, clears his throat so that he can attempt to finish the telling of what happened.
He kneels down in front of me, putting a hand on Tae's shoulder as he keeps his eyes on him as he speaks. "Taehyung spent the last moments of Jinyoung's life with him."
Tae looks up at me with red, puffy eyes. "He begged me to stay with him- because he didn't want to be alone. He was scared to die alone. He asked if he could tell me about his f-family, because he wanted them to be the last thing he thought about.
"He told me about his wife and how she didn't know about his work with Irene other than being her coach. He-" Tae pauses to let out a cry before he says, "He told me about his little girl. About how beautiful she was and how he wished he could tell her how much her Appa loved her. And that he would always be with her even if she couldn't see him anymore..."
I begin to cry as I think of that poor man. How scared and in pain he must have been. I am also crying for my sensitive friend, my Taetae, having to experience something so horrible.
"The sound." He wails. "He was choking on his own blood. That's how we knew he had a punctured lung. Blood had gotten into his lungs and he couldn't breath. Every time he would gasp for air, gurgling could be heard. I can't get the sound of it out of my head. Why can't I stop hearing it?!"
I wrap my arms around him tighter as I begin to cry with him.
After a few moments he mumbles, "Will you sing my song Koo... I want to hear something else. I want to drown out the sound."
I shudder at his words and try to take a few breaths to pull myself together just enough to sing his song for him while I rock him back and forth, just like he did for me so many nights when I couldn't calm down and go to sleep.
I'm wondering, are you my best friend?
Feels like a rivers rushing through my mind
I want to ask you, if this is all just in
My head, my heart, is pounding tonight
I wonder
If you, are too good to be true
And would it be alright, If I
Hold you closer
How could I know
One day I'd wake up feeling more
But I had already reached the shore
Guess we were ships in the
night, night, night
As I've been singing his crying has calmed into whimpers as he buried his face into the crook of my neck and wrapped his arms around my shoulders.
Hyuk clears his throat as he wipes his teary eyes before he says that my mother is waiting for him. Before he can leave, Tae lifts his head from my shoulder and looks at Hyuk with a deadly serious expression.
"Does she have his laptop, or his phone? Not the untraceable one like you gave me, but his personal phone."
Hyuk shakes his head, "I have the computer with me now, but only the untraceable phone and the hard drive was in the bag. Not his personal phone."
He nods before he turns his body more fully towards Hyuk as he says in a more calm voice, but still teary eyes, "He told me the password for his phone and his laptop. If we don't have his phone it won't matter, but if you knew the one for his laptop he changed it recently."
"Okay, d-did he tell you the new password?"
"Before he died in my arms? Yes, he told me." He gulps back a sob as his bottom lip begin to tremble. "Hyuk, I need you to tell her everything we have told you about what happened to him before you tell her the new code, okay?
"She needs to hear all of this, from what Yeri saw, what he told me when I was with him and then what I have told you. She needs to hear it all so she can understand exactly what she caused."
Hyuk nods quickly before moving to kneel next to Yoongi in front of Tae and I.
"The new passcode is one-six-zero-nine-two-one-two-one. Make sure she knows he chose these numbers because they were important to him. Something that marked a life changing event that he was greatly looking forward to, that his family will now have to celebrate without him.
"It is the due date of he and his wife's next child. A baby brother for their daughter. He will never get to meet his son and that little boy will never get to meet his Appa. Because of her."
