Unexpected. That's what the occurrence of Bella Swan at the Black Household was. And strange. And a numerous amount of other things but one thing it wasn't, was unwelcome.

Colton's eyes enlarged to the size of saucers when she saw the burnt orange Chevy parked just outside of her kitchen window while she was washing up after making herself lunch. A tiny Bella- who was looking even smaller compared to the large body of Colton's pubescent cousin Jacob- stood just beside the ancient vehicle. They were talking and while there was a great amount of animation of Jacob's side, Bella still remained slightly limp even despite the wave of energy Colton couldn't only assume was the reason for this spontaneous visit.

She had been suspicious of Bella's behaviour ever since she had gotten back from a movie night with Jessica which Colton couldn't attend due to the fact that she was struck with a fever and breaking bones. It had been a few days since then and Colton had been watching her friend with a great amount of caution ever since that night. Her mood had changed dramatically. Colton wasn't sure if 'lifted' was the right adjective to explain it but she was definitely more driven by something. Something that Colton knew had to do with Noah. His distant memory seemed to be the only thing tethering Bella to world and that scared Colton to no ends. What she was willing to do to hold onto Noah was what truly terrified her because Colton knew from personal experience, the Cullen boys left a searing wound and despite her supernatural healing, she had only began to scar over so she could only imagine what it was like for frail, human Bella.

Thi visit was an even greater cause for suspicion because since she got back, Colton had been the one making an effort to see Bella out of school because Bella sure as hell wasn't putting any effort into anything but missing Edward. That counted actually living. But now she was here, looking particularly more chipper and bearing the gift of two, disembodied and run down motorbikes.

"You bringing us scrap metal now Bells?" Colton questioned as she stepped through the front door and onto the muddy ground, ringing her hands on a dishtowel as she went.

Bella turned away from Jacob and gave Colton a cracked smile that she was rather shocked by, it was a thin smile, almost see-through but it was still something. "I saved them from the scrap yard and I was about to ask Jacob here if he wouldn't mind helping me fix them."

"Why didn't you ask me first?" Colton scoffed, feigning offensive as she took her place beside her cousin. "I did teach this little squirt everything he knows."

Jacob rolled his eyes and swatted Colton's hand away before it could attempt to pat his head. "Yeah right; you taught me the basics but you're old now Cole, "He then flexed his newly acquired muscles. "And you've been outgrown."

"You might be taller than me, but you'll forever be a squirt." Colton slapped the back of his head for emphasis causing him to flinch and then scowl at her.

Bella couldn't help but grin at their banter before clearing her throat gaining the cousins attention. "I think they'll cost more to fix than they're worth . But then I thought if I mechanic friends to help me out then."

"Us being the mechanic type friends," Jacob interrupted with a boyish grin that despite his ever enlarging form, made him appear to be the 16-year-old he actually was.

"That's right," Bella spoke quietly, her presence timid and weak compared to that of the over confident and playful Blacks who were still taking small jabs at each other.

Colton winced slightly when a finger was shoved into her ribs and turned to Bella as she swatted away Jacob's advancing hand. "Since when are you into motorcycles?"

"Since now," She said allusively and with little reassurance. "I get it if you guys think this is really stupid and reckless.

Colton couldn't help but feel hesitant towards her friend's sudden interest in all things 'stupid and reckless,' and knew for a fact that it somehow stemmed back to Noah, not that she was sure how restoring motorcycles somehow helped her reconnect with her ex-boyfriend.

But Jacob seemed oblivious as he suppressed a grin. "It is stupid and reckless." Bella deflated, all hope leaving her brown eyes until the grin broke free. "When do we start?"

The Black's garage smelled illusively of spilt car oil and stale pizza. A catchy indie/folk song twinkled its way softly through the speakers of radio as the trio sat on a various accumulation of seating. Bella surged forward after a few moments and turned the contraption off, much to the surprise of Jacob who looked up from the bike.

"That's song good." He started and glanced back down to his work. "You don't like it?"

"Um," Bella started off shakily and Colton caught her hesitant eye from across the room where she was beginning to dismantle the little that was left on the second bike to see what was salvageable and what wasn't. "I don't really like music anymore, kind of."

Jacob didn't seemed bothered by her somewhat vague answer and simply shrugged. "Okay, no more music."

"So I was thinking that if we're going to do this every day, and hopefully we will, there has to be a way that we can work some homework in there. I don't want Billy thinking I'm a bad influence on you two or anything, especially you Jake." Bella started shifting the subject.

Jacob simply scoffed wth Colton let out a crude laugh. "Yeah Bells," Colton snickered, "Like you'd be able to influence us."

Bella looked somewhat offended by her statement and scowled. "Are you?" She stuttered in detest. "I'm older than both of you. So that makes me the 'influencer' and you the 'influencee'."

"No, no, no" Jacob tsked. "My size and knowledge base actually makes me older than you-"

"Especially because of your general paleness and lack of know-how." Colton finished off and the two Blacks smirked viciously at each other.

"I convinced you two to build two-wheel death machines with me, don't you think that makes you both kind of young and naive?"

"You're only a two months older than me Bells." Colton pointed out with another smirk as her friend scowled at her.

Jacob rolled his eyes but nevertheless turned to Bella, "Okay, so where do we stand?"

"I'm at least 70 and you both are infants; fetuses actually." Colton declared earning herself two pointed glares that she simply brushed off.

Ignoring her, Bella went back to Jake. "I'm 35 and you might be 32, Cole, over there is only 22."

"Oh come on." Cole and Jake chorused just as the garage door was knocked on and they ceremoniously opened.

Embry Call and Quil Atera, two of Jacob's pubescent friends and future wolves, walked in. At the sound of their entrance, Bella moved to leave but was quickly ushered to sit back down by Jacob. "Don't worry, it's just my boys."

Embry sported the Quilettes signature long mane like hair while Quil kept his short and cropped. Colton had known them both since they were children and counted herself as their older sister, even though they sometimes annoyed the living daylights out of her.

"Hey, Jake, Cole." Quil greeted as he and Embry came fully into view.

Colton smiled at them, "Hi Embry, Quil."

"Hey guys, this is Bella." Jacob introduced while pointing to the pale girl who simply waved. "Bella that's Quil and Embry."

"I'm Quil Atera," Quil said in a tone that Colton could only assume was meant to be heard as appealing but instead just made her snort. "So the bike building story is true?"

Bella smiled faintly, "Oh yeah, yeah I taught him everything he knows."

"What about the part that you're his girlfriend?"

While Bella looked awkward, Jacob looked murderous and Colton had to hold her breath so that she instantly didn't start cackling like some sort of deranged witch.

"Umm, we're friends?" Bella stated unsurely and Colton couldn't help but let out an unladylike snap of laughter while Embry and Quil made whooping noises.

"Oh burn," Embry called while snickering along with Quil.

Jacob looked absolutely mortified. "Actually, remember I said she was a girl and a friend."

"Embry do you remember him making that distinction?"

"Nope."

"So you have girlfriends, that's awesome." Colton let out another loud laugh at Bella's statement, eyes widening at the humour in her friend's voice that it had been lacking over the past few months.

"Actually, Quil is taking his cousin to prom." Jacob piped up and Quil hung his head down.

Embry snickered as well this time and Quil clicked his tongue in irritation. "It's still alright, you wanna see funny Black?" He asked as Jacob grinned wickedly at him. "I'll show you funny."

Suddenly they were grabbing each other's body, landing jabs that wouldn't actually hurt each other and Embry skillfully moved over to Colton and Bella.

"Five bucks on Quil." Embry declared causing Colton and Bella to both glance at each other before looking over at him.

"You're on."
