Chapter 3:Cheers to new beginnings

I didn't realize I had fallen asleep until the sun rays penetrated through my curtains. I got up from bed, and went to take a nice warm shower. I wore a purple balloon dress that partly covered my thighs, black heels, and combed my hair to one side. I picked up my bag and phone and placed a jacket neatly on my bed as I applied a layer of lipstick. Meg came in all dress up and ready for us to go look at some apartments.

"Good morning sleepy head, I can't believe you just left your guests downstairs, what happened?" Meg says as she places her bag and jacket next to mine.

"I was just tired, it was a long day, and night." I lie unsure of whether she would buy it. To my surprise she actually does!

Meg chuckles, "I understand. So your dad told me to come get you...he needs you downstairs...like right now."

We both pick our bags and walk slowly down the stairs as Meg bluntly makes fun of my statement earlier. She surprises me by tying her bandana on my eyes, covering them to the point I couldn't see anything at all. She leads me to the front door and opens my eyes.

"OMG!!" The word escapes from my mouth as I take in what is in front of me. It was a black lux car, the latest one I would assume.

"Hey doll, the Brown's delivered this today and apologized for not coming yesterday." My dad says as he wraps his arms around me. The car really caught me by surprise. I didn't expect anything like that till I was like twenty-one or something, but this... this is the best thing I have received. Not saying that the rest of the gifts weren't good, they were, but this left me speechless. I was really happy, and my heart made somersaults in the air. "We figured you might want to go say thank you so Talia made some brownies, and Meg could escort you as you get some groceries for Mrs. Brown."

"I love you Dad!" I say embracing my father who seemed to share the same excitement as I was. "Nanny, you are the best, thanks for the brownies." I say as I kiss her on her cheek.

"You are welcome dear, now go! Before traffic hits you and you won't be able to make it in time to view the apartment. We embrace as she hands me the keys to the brand new car. I still can't believe I got a lux for my birthday. Well I got a Mac Book, an I Phone, and an I Pad, all those that I really appreciate, but this was an amazing surprise.

"See you both in the evening...I will take those..." I say as I pick the tray of brownies form my nanny. The seats inside looked lovely, still brand new. It looked more like a guy's car, considering they had two boys, but so cool to turn it down. Everything was modernized. All the way from the tinted windows, to the booming speakers, to the small television, and the sound of the engine... just perfect. Meg got to the passenger's sit and took a selfie of the both of us for her Instagram account.

The drive to the Brown's doesn't take that long. Se stop by the groceries store to get a few household necessities for them. When we arrive, the gigantic gate automatically opens revealing an enormous mansion, with a unique design from all the houses I have ever seen. I always loved Mrs. Brown's taste, from her dressing, to how she designed her home. We park the car next to theirs and Meg helps with the groceries as we alight the car. Justin opens the door before we even raise a finger to ring the bell.

"You again!?!?!" he exclaims, clearly not wanting me to be here. I don't get him sometimes, he was the one who made me upset yesterday night, and here he is acting like a complete lunatic.

"F.Y.I, I am not here to see you, is your Mom home?" I respond trying to show him I am not interested in wanting to know if he wants me there or not.

"No, she isn't, she just left." He responds. I don't get why he would lie to me when it is clear that she is home, considering the number of cars parked outside.

"That's no way to treat our guests Justin!" his mom catches him unaware. "Amelia, darling, what a surprise! I understand you have met my sons, Justin, the arrogant one, and Jace, the sweet mama's boy."

"yes I have Mrs. Brown." I giggle at the description she gives her sons. "and this is Meg, my best friend... more like a sister." I say as the two exchange warm hugs.

"Am sorry Amelia, you never got to meet my sons all those years. They have just been away, all through high school, but they both will be around now. Hopefully you will get to know them better."

"It's okay, Jace mentioned something like that a few days ago." I give her a warm smile. " So I got the car, and I just wanted to say how grateful I am."
"Oh, am sorry, please come on in. We got sidetracked by Justin's ruthless behavior." This woman! I can't help but laugh, and she joins in. Justin helps with the groceries, after his mom gives him a look that I can't really figure out what it meant.

"thank you for the groceries, and about the car, you are so welcome dear. We felt remorseful for missing your birthday, and after the incident we thought, what better way to welcome you. I hope you liked it"

"Like is an understatement, Mrs. Brown, I LOVE the car."

"Good. You should drop by for dinner someday, with your friend, am sure the boys would like to have you guys around."

"I definitely will. Talia made this brownies, I hope you enjoy them."

"Talia should really share this recipe with us... but like she always says..."

"It's my secret to keep." We both say in unison, and giggle as we mimic Talia's voice.

"Well, please pass my greeting and thank you to Mr. Brown. We have somewhere else to be." I say to her as she gives each of us a warm hug and smile.

"Have a nice day, sweetie."

Justin leads us to the door, silently ridiculing his mother's statement.

"Say hi to Jace, and stop being such an asshole."

"Sure thing, your highness."

Our drive doesn't take quite some time, but not enough to makes us so exhausted. We were both expectant, ready to see the apartment that was recommended to us. We park the car and head for the reception are, where a beautiful young lady welcomes us with a warm smile.

"Welcome, I believe you are Miss Gilbert, called earlier to confirm your reservation for an apartment on second floor?"

"Yes ma'am, that would be me, and this is my friend, Meg, we shall be staying together."

"Pleasure to meet you both, I am Natasha." She says as she shakes Meg's hand. "Please walk with me."

We follow the nice lady behind admiring the beautiful scene in front of us. The grass was neatly mowed, making it a perfect place to just come and relax outdoors. She takes us round the whole place showing us some of the exquisite features they have. From the large swimming pool, to a tennis court, to a place that looks almost like a park, except it's not, it has benches everywhere and beautiful green grass. The vegetation was just perfect.

"We try our best to utilize our environment, you will discover you can pretty much have everything within reach right here, no need to go to some park to enjoy them" Natasha informs us, and I totally agree with her. "This way ladies."

She leads us to the elevator and presses the number two, which gives us the idea that we are headed for the second floor. We walk down the pathway and stop at door number 36A.

"Well, come on in." She gestures us in with her hand.

"Wooow!!" Meg breaks the silence as that filled the room when we entered in. "This is beautiful!"

"I am speechless." I respond meaning it. The view before us was just amazing, actually amazing would be an understatement. The living room was spacious. It had three black leather sofas, one to the wall, and the other two side by side. The Kitchen was right there, shaped cylindrically, with an opening at one side. It had a large two door refrigerator, and an electric cooker on one side, with an oven. Tons of glass cabinets were aligned, some up, some down, but all within reach. We take one flight of stairs and it leads to an area with four closed doors. She informs us that they are three rooms, and a bathroom, but two of the rooms are already equipped with a bathroom. They both are the same size, and the third is just an additional for those who accommodate visitors, but if we would like she could show us a two-bedroom house.

"NO!" We Meg and I both say, and we can't help but laugh and Natasha joins in.

"Well, we mean this is really beautiful, and it is just perfect." I correct our statement and smile at the nice lady.

"Perfect. I knew you would like it. This is among our best, especially the multicolored walls, and the curtains, it makes it look lovely, Just perfect for two lovely ladies."

"Thank you Natasha, I think we will take this one. I'm so excited!" I say
She pulls out sheets of papers and hands it over to us. "Mr. Gilbert already made the transaction, so the house is all yours, after you sign the papers."

********************************

Today has just been a hell of a day, I decided to stop by Yale and drop in my final documents for the school year. This would be a new beginning considering how my high school life had been. Being the bad boy of the school wasn't always easy. I made a lot of mistakes in my past, but I have a feeling things will change, for the better. I drive in our lot and park my car next to Justin's. Pulling out the keys to the house, I open it while checking my phone for any messages.

No one is beyond site and I begin to wonder what could be wrong just then the sweet aroma of my mother's food hits me.

"Mom, I'm home." I alert her and begin climbing the stairs. Justin gets out of his room with his hair all messy.

"Dude, Amelia stopped by, you guys didn't tell me you had something going on..."

"Ha ha so you are my secretary now, huh? To answer your statement no, we are just friends, and plus you should be minding your dozens of girlfriends that you bring home, they may turn against you brother." I open the door to my room.

I undress and put on my sweatpants and a hoodie on top of my vest, and pull out my phone to check on Amelia. I dial her number hoping she would pick up, but she doesn't.

*******************

Natasha leaves Meg and I looking at our new home. If tomorrow was not orientation, we would spend the rest of the day standing here like fools. The apartment was beyond beautiful, and I couldn't think of a better place than here. I glanced at my wrist watch '10.30 am' It read That means we had more than enough time to move in here today. I have waited this long, I don't think I could wait any longer. Not that I didn't like my father's home, but the memories of the last few month remind me that I need to get away from that life, and maybe start over.

"Meg, what do you think?"

"It's beyond amazing Amy, with a little bit of things we bought, it would be more than perfect. Plus, I can't wait to host a party!" Meg responds clearly obsessed over the house.

"Amy, not bad."

"Well, you ain't the only one good at nicknames." Meg says and we both chuckle.

"New house, old Meg" I mockingly say with a sarcastic tone and she hits my arm while sticking out her tongue in a childish way.

We leave the apartment to my Dad's house to pick up our stuff. I decide to let Meg drive, and all the way she comments at how good the car feels as it glides over the road, and praises Mr. and Mrs. Brown for their good taste. I take out my phone from my purse to check who had called me. I didn't have time to look at it since morning.

"Jace called me," I tell Meg and she raises an eyebrow at me.

"I sense some chemistry pretty soon."

"Hey, no, don't even say that, at least not right now. He is cool and all, but still a new friend." I say and turn back to my screen, scrolling through some of my texts.

"Didn't you know him from childhood?"

"I heard of him, but we have never met, he has been away like all his life, together with Justin. Plus, the parents are like my second family."

"Sure, sure, defend it all you want, but we both know how this is gonna turn out." Meg says in a playful tone.

"As you say Mr. Smarty-pants. Now can you just focus on the road." With that, we both remain quiet, with booming music, and Meg singing along, all the way. I have never understood how most of us can memorize the lyrics to a whole library, yet we can't memorize how some formulas of chemistry or physics the same way. I shake my head lightly, canceling the thought, and peer back on my phone.
