Chapter 39 Hunter

So much blood, so many bodies that I couldn't appreciate that my pack was here and I was safe. The image of C.J.'s limp body was the image that had constantly flashed in my head. When Jonah left me standing there I turned to look at James. It was a mistake I could not take back. It was then I finally realized what looked so wrong. It was his head, or more like the lack of his head. Jonah had torn James' head off and tossed it a couple feet away. I was in such shock that no screams came out of my mouth.

When Uncle Adam's pack found me I was kneeling my legs gave out at the sight of James' dead eyes staring at me feet away from his body. I didn't even realize the others had surrounded me until someone picked me up and moved me away. I can't even remember who was in that group who found me. I remember them asking if I was ok and I nodded. I was physically ok. Mentally...I wasn't sure yet. I knew I hadn't cried and wasn't sure if I was going to. I didn't know how I felt about the death of James and C.J..

Grayson and Jarek were at my side were I hoped they would always be. I held each of their hands not able to get enough of their touch. I couldn't explain how much I missed them. How much I needed them both. It was their touch that seemed to keep me from losing it. But what scared me even more was that I wasn't feeling anything right now. Oh I was more than relieved that Grayson and Jarek were here with me but besides that I wasn't sure what I felt. Everything seemed like a distance dream.

From the corner of my eye I caught a tall, very tall, man slowly moving towards us. He looked familiar and very intimidating with all his tattoos and his large frame. That was till I looked up and seen those dark as coal eyes staring at me. Those eyes held no violence. They were soft and unsure.

Seeing me watch him he nodded his head slightly and stopped where he was, putting his hands deep in his pockets. Shoulders slumped, head down he spoke very softly. "I am so sorry."

I didn't know what he was sorry for. Inhaling deep I knew he was of the pack that surrounded us and not of the others that took me. I also knew he was like me. He was a born. Squeezing the hands of Grayson and Jarek once before I let go to walk over to the strange born wolf. "What are you sorry for?" I asked him feeling a little concerned and confused.

He met my eyes with his and answered, "For what you have been through. You are to be cherished and protect, not stolen and treated like a prisoner."

I was still confused. "Did you have anything to do with them taking me?" I asked.

His eyes grew as large as saucers and he rapidly shook his head. "No! Absolutely not!"

I smiled at him and touched his arm. "Then you have no reason to apologize for. If you had nothing to do with it. I am back with my packs now and that is all that matters. My name is Hunter. You are?" There was something so soothing about this man. I couldn't help but feel safe around him. He was actually the first person that had ever made me feel this way. Or maybe it was because I knew Jarek and Grayson stood a couple feet away from me.

This man in front of me that looked so scary as he walked towards us earlier smiled. His soft eyes that looked uncertain now seemed peaceful. He was beautiful. "Thank you, my name is..." he said.

Someone screamed, breaking that peaceful moment. I felt something wet hit my face a fraction of a second before I felt warm thick matter follow. Then this huge man shot forward, falling towards me. I caught him before he fell but he was too big and heavy to keep upright. I held him in my arms as we both fell to the ground.

A horrifying roar cut through the screams. Snapping my head to the side I caught sight of the most beautiful white lion leap in the air. There was another loud shot before the lion landed on a man who had a gun in his hand. When the lion landed on the mans back the gun fell. The lion then used his claws to tear apart the mans back and the arm that once held the gun. What happened next should have made me sick, large powerful jaws engulfed the man's head and ripped it right off the man's body. All this happened while I sat on the ground holding the man that fell.

I was finally able to realize that there was screaming again. I was pretty sure it stopped after the lion roared but that could have been just me since what I was watching was the most terrifying and amazing thing I had ever witnessed. The others around us, people I had never seen before yelled for Sam to stop. I think I had enough wits to understand the lions name was Sam but he wouldn't.

Jarek was the first to reach me and had his hands under my arms dragging me back. Grayson was pulling my hands off the man I held and Nikko was telling them to hurry. That was when the lion stopped and roared the most mournful sound I had ever heard. It brought tears to my eyes. That was until the lion looked our way. Jarek had me upright even though my feet had not yet touched the ground. Grayson was beside me but a little in front and Nikko stood between us and the blood coated lion.

I wanted to tell them to stop pulling me away but I knew they wouldn't listen. They started to move back again but much slower. When the lion moved forward, his ears back, jaws opened and made this sound between a growl and hiss I knew it was not out of aggression. This lion was hurt. He did not want to attack.

We were a good 15 feet back now and I had a good view on the lion since Nikko stepped to the side just enough for me to see. He was now standing above the man that laid there unmoving. Shaking his head I seen a shiver run through the lion and from one blink to the next stood a white wolf covered in blood. An earth shattering howl escaped this wolves throat. My tears were falling freely now. I felt the pain and hurt run deep inside me. It was that moment that I knew the man with the peaceful eyes and beautiful smile was not just laying there but he was dead. When the howl broke the wolf laid beside the beautiful man's body then laid his head on the his back. Whoever this wolf was, I didn't know but I did know that he was completely heart broken.

Two men walked up to the wolf slowly and spoke in soft tones. I didn't know who they were but I knew they were powerful. "Sam? Please Sam," the one that did not smell like a wolf said as he moved even closer.

Not wanting to take my eyes off what I was seeing I asked, "Who is he? I mean Sam." I knew it wasn't Nikko's Sam.

There was a sigh from a few people but no one answered me right away. Finally it was Grayson that spoke up. "Well babe," he sounded a mix of being in awe and heartbroken with the sight in front of us. "That is Sam, she is your mom."

Before I could even register what he said Jarek added in, "Your biological mom. No one knew she was alive till a couple days ago."

And with that little tidbit of information I was glad Jarek was holding me up because I lost all the function in my legs.
