Chapter 3

Hello, everybody! I hope everyone has had a good weekend. It's gone by too fast! And it doesn't help that I'm on an emotional roller coaster for watching The Titanic last night for the first time. Why? Why did Jack have to die? It's not fair! He was such an amazing person! And not to mention beautiful! T-T I hate life sometimes. Anyway, *wipes away tears* I hope you guys have been on your toes for this next chapter. After rereading it, I realized that it was way shorter than I thought it was, but eh, whatever. It's still a good chapter. So here is chapter 3 of Torn!

Sasuke soared through the trees, the adrenaline pumping through his veins pushing him to speeds he had never attained before. His right hand was pressed down against the stab wound in his gut. He had sustained the wound an hour ago, and it hadn't closed up yet, and Sasuke for the life of him couldn't figure out why. He was a vampire for crying out loud, it should be healed, and definitely not still bleeding. The rate at which he was losing blood was not good for him, and he hadn't brought any blood with him. To be honest, he probably should have collapsed by now, but sheer worry and adrenaline were keeping him going; worry for his idiot best friend. He knew Naruto could handle himself, but since the enemy had apparently figured out a way to stop their regenerative healing, who knew what could happen. Not to mention that one of the surviving members of Naruto's squad had reported that last he had seen him; he had sustained a serious injury.

Sasuke internally cursed himself again for being so careless in the middle of a war. Two days earlier he had let his temper get the best of him, per usual, and had left the village in a hurry to clear his head. It wasn't rare for him to disappear for days at a time, although Naruto usually went out and dragged him back. He hadn't been there when the village had been attacked a day later, when they had needed him most, so Hokage Tsunade had dispatched their squad with only Naruto. They had been taken by surprise, and Sasuke hadn't been there. Now Naruto had disappeared. By the time he had gotten back to the village, several buildings and trees had been destroyed, the casualties numerous. He had been in utter shock when Hinata had run up to him, crying, and clutched onto him, asking him where Naruto was. He had only been able to respond with a shake of his head, too shocked to form words. She had collapsed against him and sobbed, and he had been filled with an emotion he didn't feel often, if he felt an emotion at all: guilt.

After that, he had taken off immediately to look for him, promising Hinata that he would bring her mate back. He owed her that much after all. She was one of his closest friends, even if he would never say it out loud, mostly due to the fact that their families were some of the higher up ones in Konoha and they had been forced to hang out together most of their lives. Despite her shyness she was a strong girl underneath, always there when you needed her, and he quite liked her for that.

Two days after he had left the village though, he had been ambushed and had immediately regretted his lack of gear. All he had on him was his regular short katana and a couple shuriken. In his haste, he had been stabbed once before stabbing his attacker through the heart.

Sasuke didn't stop, but tried to sense if there were any life forms nearby. Nothing, so he had lost them. He relaxed a little, relieved that he wouldn't have to be on the look out for pursuers, but disappointed that he hadn't sensed the familiar burning chakra of his best friend. Soon enough, he realized that the usually tall and thick trees were starting to thin and be sparser than they were in the heart of the forest. He was nearing the outskirts of the forest, where the Normy world met his own. Naruto couldn't possible have gotten this far, could he have? Sasuke slowed and looked around. His vision was starting to get blurry; he was losing too much blood. Just as he was about to turn back and search elsewhere, he felt it, that familiar spark of fiery chakra.

Sasuke whipped around quickly, but a little too quickly because he lost his balance and fell out of the tree he was standing in, landing with a thud on the forest floor.

"Crap," he swore under his breath, and pushed himself back up, leaning against a tree. His vision was swimming and he was starting to see black spots. If he could only get some blood... The spark of chakra, closer this time, snapped him back to attention. He didn't have time for that, not when Naruto was so close. Sasuke gritted his teeth and slapped himself, hard, effectively clearing away the black dots in his vision. He was an Uchiha, and Uchihas were not the weak type of people to just collapse from a small stab wound. Granted it had been bleeding for an hour, but still. He pushed on, Naruto's chakra growing closer by the minute. He was almost there; he could feel it.

He stumbled into a small clearing ringed by trees, a stream trickled nearby. Naruto's chakra was echoing painfully. Sasuke didn't have to look long to spot Naruto thanks to his bright hair and clothes, or pants at least. He was lying on his back in the middle of the clearing, a rag bunched up under his head, and his torso bandaged. Sasuke ran over to him and shook him. "Naruto! Oi, Naruto! Wake up, dobe!"

Naruto only mumbled in his sleep and a sleepy grin spread over his face as he mumbled, "Mm, Hinata. Don't do that, it tickles..."

Sasuke fought the urge to gag, and shook him harder, until he finally slapped him. This got Naruto awake. He jerked up and blinked around blearily before his eyes focused on him and his eyebrows furrowed as he stared at him.

"Teme? What are you doing here?" he asked in a voice slurred by sleep.

          Sasuke rolled his eyes.

"What do you mean, what am I doing here? I'm here to save your ass, what else?"

"Save me from what? I'm fine, and you woke me up from my dream of Hinata," he whimpered, clearly missing his mate.

Sasuke didn't bother answering and hauled his friend up by the arm.

"Come on, let's go," he grunted.

Naruto took a step forward and slumped practically immediately.

"What's wrong?" Sasuke asked, grunting under Naruto's weight.

Naruto blinked down at his legs blearily and giggled. "My legs feel like jelly," he said with a ridiculous grin on his face.

Sasuke swore under his breath as he felt the earlier burst of strength he had begin to fade. He opened his mouth to say something to Naruto when he heard the sound of footfalls and a sweet scent made its way to his nose. A memory flashed in his mind of him as a child in Konoha walking with his family under the sakura trees when a breeze had hit suddenly and all the sakura blossoms had come swirling down towards him. That was the only way to describe the smell he smelled now. His body relaxed involuntarily and turned around slowly, Naruto's arm slipping from his grip as he turned to stare at the girl who's sent was driving him crazy. She stood at the edge of the clearing, staring at him with big jade green eyes. Her sakura pink hair was up in a messy bun at the top of her head except for a stray lock of hair that dangled just in front of her ear, and Sasuke thought wildly for a moment that it made her even sexier. Her lips looked soft even from where he was standing and they were pink. Her skin was fair and smooth, and her frame was what could only be described as petite. She wasn't very gifted in the chest area but she had elegant curves that made Sasuke feel the insane urge to run his hands down. The bright red shirt she was wearing only served to further accent and sharpen her features. She was gorgeous.

Sasuke felt like his stomach was doing flips inside of him and his heart was caught in his throat. Mate! Mate! His inner self screamed. As soon as the word entered his mind he pushed everything he felt down. There was no way she was his mate because his mate was dead.

Well, I hope you guys enjoyed that chapter, and that little peek into Sasuke's point of view. Of course, we will have more chapters in his point of view because we all love being in our tortured character's head, no? What does he mean his mate is dead? What will be the future for these two? Come back next week and find out in chapter 4 of Torn! By the way, for my Dragon Boy and Princess  reader, chapter 32 will be up later today because my priority right now is getting my homework done, but it will be posted today! Fear not! Anyway, see ya next week. Ja ne!
