Chapter 23

Hey guys, sorry it's been a while. As most of you probably know I'm traveling and didn't have wifi for the first two weeks. Now I'm at camp, and have wifi, but since we get in really late, I'm uploading this at like 1am. So I'm keeping my talking to a minimum. By the way, guys, we've reached 2.9K reads on this story!! Yay! Go Sasusaku! Thank you for all the support. It really means a lot to me. Now not to keep you waiting any longer for those of you who are still reading this part, here is chapter 23

Sakura had really wanted to stay and join in the joy ensuing from Mina's announcement that she was pregnant, but if she lingered any longer, she wouldn't have time to go see Tsunade, so she changed out of Sasuke's shirt into the new clothes Mikoto had had custom made. It was made with a stretchy red fabric, white lining the edges. The whole thing hugged her body, and yet was light enough to leave her mobility to move as she wanted. It went down to the middle of her thighs, slits cut up the sides; around her waist was a black sort of belt, and she had white shorts to go with. Strapped to her leg was a black pack of the weapons everyone seemed to carry that Sakura now knew were called Kunai and Shuriken. The shoes that came with were kind of odd as well. They were black, and made of a rubbery material that seemed to accommodate her foot and were open at her toes. All in all, she was extremely comfortable, and all set to leave.

As she was about to cross the threshold of the front door, however, she was engulfed in a hug from behind, and turned to see Itachi behind her, tears in his eyes.

"You're the reason for this, right? Thank you," he said, smiling at her.

She smiled and hugged him back. "You're welcome, but I really do have to go now."

"Right," he said, letting go of her, and wiping his eyes. He ruffled the top of her head. "Off you go then."

            "Bye," she said, heading out.

Walking towards the Hokage's building, Sakura felt incredibly giddy. Just being able to say to someone that she was heading out again made her feel as if she was part of the Uchiha family, not to mention the pregnancy ordeal.

Shizune, I'm glad I got to come here. I'm sorry it wasn't with you...

She finally reached the Hokage building, and entered, going up to the top floor. She knocked on the door to the office, and a voice answered, "Come in." She pushed the door open and bowed her head low as she entered, "Good morning, Tsunade-sama."

The blonde beauty smirked from her seat, and chuckled.

"So formal," she remarked. "Now sit."

Sakura smiled and did as she was told.

"Well, today's the day, Sakura. The day we find out who your parents were."

"If I may," Sakura interjected. "I think I may already know."

"Oh?" Tsunade said, seeming intrigued. "How so?"

"I'm Uchiha Sasuke's mate." It sounded strange saying it out loud for the first time, but it also felt right, as if something inside of her was nodding along with what she was saying.

Tsunade's eyes widened, and her jaw actually dropped. She cleared her throat, and said, "W-Well, that certainly makes things easier. Are you sure? You didn't mention this the first time you came in here."

"I didn't know before," Sakura said.

            "Didn't know?" she asked, puzzled.

"Ah!" Sakura said, realizing how stupid she must seem. "He didn't tell me, and for some reason, my inner has never made an appearance, so I didn't know until I kissed him."

She blushed immediately as she realized what she had just admitted to out loud, and ducked her head. Tsunade started laughing at her squeamish face, and smacked the table, effectively cracking it.

"Ah, crap, that was the third one this week," she cursed.

Now it was Sakura's turn to start laughing.

"Well, let's do the blood test just to be doubly sure," Tsunade said, getting up. "It's not that I don't trust you, but it's important to be sure, and it is strange that your inner hasn't made an appearance yet... You say you've never heard her speak?"

Sakura shook her head as they exited the office and headed towards the stairs.

"Hmm, I'll have to look into it," Tsunade said. "Anyway, Sakura, you say you were a doctor where you used to live, right? Well, I'm sure you were since Shizune probably taught you." She smiled thoughtfully.

"Yes, I was," Sakura said, smiling as well as she thought back to the days when Shizune was training her to recognize the symptoms of various diseases, and the right way to tie off stitches. Okay, those sound like pretty gruesome memories now that she was thinking about it, but they were good in her mind.

"Then you'll like where we're going," Tsunade smirked.

And it was true that she did because in just a few minutes they were standing in front of one of the largest establishments Sakura had ever seen. It was a large white building with Konoha General written in large letters over the entrance to the hospital. As they entered the building, Sakura's jaw dropped. Large hallways of linoleum white floors, nurses bustling around, all the equipment, real beds for patients with IV drips! Some of the machines she had never even seen before!

            "Sakura, you're drooling," Tsunade commented.

She hurried to wipe her mouth, but found nothing there. The Hokage started laughing her head off, and said, "You are way too easy to tease, Sakura."

Said girl frowned and blushed in embarrassment. As they walked through the hallways, patients and doctors alike bowed to Tsunade and made way for her. Since she was accompanying them, Sakura also got looks from people, and she shrunk down.

"Stand up straight," Tsunade said as she waved. "Present yourself with confidence."

Sakura blinked, before she straightened and held her head high, smiling. "Yes, maam."

They finally arrived at a small room, bare except for a patient's bed, a desk, a computer, and a cabinet. Sakura sat down on the bed as Tsunade sat at the desk, typing away. Sakura had actually never seen a computer before now since everyone in her village had never been able to afford one. Sakura had done all her patient filing by paper.

"Alright, let's add you into the system," Tsunade said. "And then we'll do your blood test.

Sakura nodded and waited as she watched Tsunade. The blonde looked at her from the corner of her eye before returning to her screen.

"Those clothes look good on you by the way," she commented.

Sakura smiled and looked down at herself. "Thanks."

Tsunade asked her various questions like her age, height, blood type, birthday, and weight before she finally said, "Alright, that's that. Let's do the blood test and confirm who your parents were before I put your last name into the system."

She got up and went to the cabinet, pulling out needles and a vial for the blood. She grabbed her left arm and wiped down the spot where she would be sticking the needle. She then readied everything, and stuck the needle in her arm. Sakura watched as the red liquid traveled slowly through the tube and dripped into the vial. This would finally reveal who her parents were. She wondered if she would get to see their faces. Who did she look like more, her mom or her dad? Was her mom pretty? Did her dad have a beard? Who had she gotten her hair from?

She was snapped back to reality when Tsunade retracted the needle and sealed the vial.

"Ok, I'll be back. I'm just going to have one of my subordinates run tests on this," Tsunade said, getting up and leaving the room.

She returned soon enough, and seemed to see Sakura's troubled expression.

"Nervous for the results?" she said, smiling reassuringly at her.

"Haha, a little. Questions just keep swirling around in my head," Sakura laughed nervously.

"It's okay, I would be nervous too if I were you," Tsunade said, looking at her thoughtfully. "I'm sorry you weren't able to meet them."

"It's okay! Don't apologize for something you had no control over!" Sakura hurried to say. "I used to miss them, but when I met Shizune, all of that sort of went away. With her, I didn't wonder about them anymore."

Tsunade smiled and said in a soft voice, "Well, I'm glad she was able to do some good before she passed."

Sakura's throat constricted, and she blinked back her tears. Just then someone cleared their throat, and they both looked up to see an attendant in scrubs at the door.

"Um, Hokage-sama, the results have come in," the man said.

            Sakura leaned forward eagerly.

            "And?" Tsunade demanded.

"It's a match," he said, handing Tsunade a file.

Tsunade quickly opened the file, and a sad look came across her face.

"Poor people. At least their daughter is alive," she said, looking up at her.

She held the manila folder out towards Sakura, and the pinkette took it with trembling hands. There were registration papers in there, but what caught her eye first was the picture clipped at the front. A couple holding up a baby greeted her eyes. There was a woman with dark blonde hair, one lock curling over her forehead as the rest was brushed back. She had kind green eyes, and a big, toothy grin adorned her features. Sakura smiled despite herself at the woman, and shifted her gaze to look at the man. He was definitely a funny looking one, with dark pink hair that stuck up in spikes at the back of his head. A pink mustache and clean-shaven beard decorated his mouth, and laughing gray eyes taunted her. Each had a hand under the armpit of the baby they were holding up in the middle of the picture. The baby had bright pink hair, lighter than her father's and big green eyes and she was laughing at the camera, so happy with both her parents at her sides. It had o be her, there was no one else with these specific features.

She gently moved the picture aside to see the forms below. They were her parents' citizen registration forms. Mebuki Haruno and Kizashi Haruno. Haruno. So Haruno was her last name, huh? Sakura Haruno. She was Sakura Haruno. She looked at the last paper and saw that it was her birth certificate with both her parents' names signed at the bottom. Tears sprang to her eyes as she looked at the couple that had given up their lives for her, that had seemed so happy with her in the picture, the parents she didn't even know. She started to sob, her heart aching for a memory of the two people she should have known.

"Sakura..." Tsunade said, looking at her sadly.

"Why?" she sobbed, clutching at her chest. "Why am I crying for people I never knew?"

Tsunade didn't say anything, but simply wrapped her arm around her, bring her into her chest. Sakura felt embarrassed to be crying in front of the Hokage, but she couldn't stop, so she simply let herself cry in Tsunade's arms as she hugged the picture of her parents to her heart.

Tsunade didn't let Sakura go until she calmed down. When she did, she sat her down gently on the bed. Sakura had an iron grip on the manila folder containing information on her parents, but forced herself to put it to the side. She felt pathetic. She had cried in front of the Hokage, and come to think of it, all she'd been doing was crying recently. She hated it. This wasn't the time to be moping around. She still had a lot of things to figure out, one of them being how the hell to use her powers. She had to take her life into her own hands.

"Do you need a minute alone?" Tsunade asked.

Sakura's head snapped up, and she wiped her eyes hastily, a newly lit fire burning within her.

            "Teach me!" she blurted out.

"What?" Tsunade asked, taken by surprise.

"You're a Healer, the same as me. Teach me, please!" she repeated earnestly.

            Tsunade blinked before smirking.

"I don't usually take apprentices, and I'm pretty busy being the leader of the village."

"I know it's selfish, but I'm tired of just crying over everything, and not doing anything about it. I have no idea what I'm capable of, but I know that if I can use my powers, people won't have to save my ass all the time, and I'll do whatever it takes, so please! Teach me!" She said with so much emotion, she was practically on the verge of yelling.

Tsunade's smirk widened and she looked at her maliciously.

"I'm a tough teacher, you know. I won't go easy on you," she warned.

"Bring it on! I can take it!" Sakura smirked.

Tsunade laughed. "I knew I liked you! Alright then, tomorrow, in my office, seven am. Be there."

            "Hai!" she saluted.

I am Sakura Haruno, daughter of Mebuki Haruno and Kizashi Haruno, raised by Shizune. I will become the most kickass Healer anyone's ever seen, and that's a promise.

I hope you guys enjoyed the chapter. Sakura's identity has been confirmed, and she has a goal now! Our Saku's growing so fast! So, sorry for the lack of Sasuke's presence in this chapter, but he's off being emo so you can't disturb him, you know? The next few chapters will mostly be focused on Sakura and her development as well as developing her friendships and connections in the village so look forward to that. Do not worry for all of you people who are instantly mad at me, and are probably screaming, "I WANT SASUKE!" in your heads. Sasuke will come back! But this story has to have character development for both characters, and this is the way I'm going about it. Again, thanks for 2.9K, but I really think I'm going to go to sleep now because I have to wake up early tomorrow. Please vote, comment, and share. I'll see you next time! Ja ne!
