Lost

"Nonononono- where is it?!"

For the past few hours, Tom had been rummaging through his belongings in search of something. It was very important to him and he couldn't believe he lost it.

He has asked Edd and Matt for its whereabouts, and searched their rooms only to find nothing.
Tom went throughout the whole house;
The kitchen, in which he looked inside the shelves and cupboards, under the dining table, inside and under the sink, and even inside a few food containers.
He searched the living room. Checking every inch, nook and cranny of the couch. Behind the TV, in the lamps, under the carpet, and inside the pillows.
Next he went to the bathroom.

He searched everywhere.
Even the toilet.

You never know, it could've fallen in.
(JaidenAnimations-)

Lastly, he checked the attic. It was filled with relics and valuables from the many years of having adventures. Every object contained a certain memory and they cherished every single one.
Tom thought he might find it here.

What was he looking for?

It was something his father gave to him before passing away.

It was a pretty small and fragile thing, yet precious in every way.
It reminded him of his father and every moment they spent together. He would usually listen to it to calm his nerves and to relish the days they spent.

Got any clue yet?

"I'm sure it's in here somewhere... I'll check tomorrow. Maybe I'll find it." Tom assured himself. Maybe he'll find it. Just Maybe.
.
.
.
"I heard you were looking for something." Tord said, not really caring very much. He just felt like that was perfect chance to annoy Tom.

Tom rolled his eyes, not that Tord could tell, and grumbled to himself.
"Stupid Commie... Always there when he's not needed..."

"I heard that."

"Just leave me alone-"

"What are you looking for anyways?" Tord tried to pry into his privacy again. But, maybe.... Maybe he'd know where it was.
Maybe he could ask Tord for help-

"It's... It's none of your business." Tom replied as he walked away. Tord could hear the click of a door signifying that Tom had entered his room and would not be coming out soon.
This made Tord more curious. What was Tom looking for? Why won't he tell anyone what it is?

The next day rolled by. Tom was up and ready; looking for his missing belonging as soon as he awoke. He rechecked from his room. His drawers, closet, under the bed, boxes under the bed, bags, and even outside his window. Just in case.

He threw his pillow on the ground in hopes of finding it under there but of course, it wasn't.
What did he expect?

He rummaged through the closet and drawers once again. This time, throwing out every content that was inside just to make sure it was in there.
Nope.
His bags?
He checked each one.
Nothing.

Okay Tom, just calm down.. You'll be fine... It's somewhere around the house. Besides, I doubt it could have gotten out. I'll just search through the attic today-

"Tom!" A knock was heard. "Wake up sleepyhead! Breakfast is ready. We're leaving after." Edd called out from the other side.
Oh no.

"Can I stay home? I have to do something really important." Tom asked. He had to find it. He just needed to.h

"Sorry Tom, we've planned this for a long while now. It would be sad to cancel. I know it's really important, but it's just for one day."

"Edd, I really need to-"

"What even is it?"

Tom remained silent. He couldn't tell Edd. He couldn't tell him what it was.

"Fine."
.
.
.
What a terrible day it has been for Tom.
One, he had to leave the house when he needed to do something important (which was to look for the 'thing')
Two, he spent the whole day with Tord. And from there, things were going bad.
Three, Edd had blamed him for causing the trouble when it was clearly Tord who started the fight.
What was his problem?
Once they reached home, Tom dashed out the car and into the house.
He needed something to calm his nerves.
But how could he when that 'thing' was lost?

I can't believe this...

Tom was stressed out to the point where his emotions were everywhere. Controlling them was difficult.

Tom had gone to the attic to look for it.

The sun had already set and he still hadn't found it.
Tom was exhausted, stressed, and easily irritable.
The whole place was messed up.
Objects lay scattered on the ground, a few were piled on top of each other.

"Where is it??"

"Looking for something, Jehova?"

Tom turned to face the person who had come into the attic. Tord.
He stood by the door, leaning on it's frame. There, on his hand, was the object he was looking for.

"Where did you find it...?" Tom asked.

"Somewhere." Tord shrugged.

"Alright... That's very kind of you, but please give it to me."

Tord hummed in thought. He held the object out. Tom was about to grab it when

"How about 'No?' " And quickly pulled his hand back.

"Tord, give it back!" Tom yelled, desperately trying to reach for it when he knew Tord was pretty taller than him.
Tord decided to tease him. With a sly smirk, he purred.

"This seems very precious to you, huh?"

"Give it!"

Tom was hopping, but the higher he hopped, the higher Tord would stretch his hand up.
Tord laughed at how desperate Tom was.

"Try to reach it from me!"

"You dick! You know I can't!" Tom was getting irritated.

"Exactly~"

Tom was tired.
So very tried.
It's as if he didn't want to try anymore.

"Giving up so soon?~" Tord poked Tom's cheek to get him angered. Which kind of worked...

"Hand it to me!" He reached over to grab it but Tord pushed him back.

"Nah."

"TORD- I AM S-SO DONE WIth your shit d-dammit...." His voice softened at the very end.
Tears slowly fell down his face.
He was tired, he was stressed, and he had been worried.
After searching for a long while, he couldn't find it. Then suddenly Tord said he found it, but decided to be a douche.

Tord went silent. He watched as Tom cried on the floor.

"I n-needed that!" Tom's voice cracked. "Do you e-even care...?"

The tears wouldn't stop falling. He was so stressed, he needed to let it all of it out.
"Of course you wouldn't..."

Tord sighed. Clearly Tom wasn't up for it.
Tord looked down at the object in his hands, then back at the crying Brit.

"Guys? Hey! What's going on up there??"

Oh shit. Better think of something before Edd gets here.
Tord thought.

Tom continued to cry until he heard soft music playing.
This song always reminded him of so many things.
Looking up, he saw that Tord had turned the key and made it play. In an instant, he felt calm. The tears were still there, but he felt slightly better.
Tord sat down beside him holding the object.

Have you guessed what it is yet?

"Sorry..." Tord apologized as he handed him the music box.

Tom just looked at him unsure.

"I'm serious, take it."

Taking it out of Tord's hands, Tom placed it beside him. He continued to listen to the music. It always brought him back to when the times were better.

Tord observed him. The way Tom closed his eyes and slowly swayed to the music made him look at ease.
A small smile crept onto Tom's face.

"Why is it so important? If you don't mind me asking..."

Tom wiped his tears before replying.
"It was given to me by my father. Something to remember him while he was away... That was the last time I saw him."

Tord formed an 'o' as he looked at Tom.
Wow, he felt bad.
"I didn't know..."

"That's because you never bothered to know."

They both stayed in their spot, surrounded by random objects that were scattered across and everywhere.

"Hey look, it's that weird rock Matt found." Tord pointed at a crystal-like stone.

"That's a gem, Tord."

...

"... I knew that..."

Tom rolled his eyes. "Sure."
He picked up the stone, observing it's texture and color. The surface created some sort of mirror.

"Erm.. Tom, why don't you want anyone to know about that?" Tord questioned as he looked at his reflection.
If it was just a simple music box, why keep it a secret?

"It's more than a music box. This was bought from the magic shop." Tom picked it up and twisted the key.
"Made from materials non-existent from this world. Including this "weird rock" or so you'd call it."
Tord looked at the gem in awe.

"What's it's purpose?"

"This."
Underneath the top main platform was a lid, that when opened, would show a certain memory. Specifically the most significant one.
Tom opened it and out came a memory from his past;
Him on his father's shoulders. They looked very happy.

While watching, Tord would often glance at Tom; noticing this different side of him.
Much calmer, talked soothingly, had a caring attitude...

A genuine smile...

One that no one has really seen Tom wear before.

The memory ended, the music stopped, and the box closed.
The room fell silent.
Nothing but the sound of crickets and the soft breeze blowing outside.
If you looked out the window, you'd see the moon's faint light.
The streets were empty.

"I swear I heard something. Tom? Tord? Hey-"
Edd looked into the attic and found them just sitting there in silence.

"They seem to be... Lost..."

I didn't know how to end it. This is the best I could do.
