(Angel’s POV)

As everyone got ready in their rooms, I looked at the decorated church for the wedding. Through the huge, stainless steel glass window, you could start to see the sun go down along the horizon of the Australian bay. Somehow, I was getting nervous seeing all the people standing in the lobby of the church before the wedding started.

“Angel,” someone addressed. I turned over my shoulder, feeling my curled hair graze my shoulders, to see Lulu standing there. She walked over and zipped up the remaining length of my dress. “It’s time to go.”

I looked to her in her beautiful blue bridesmaids’ dress and left with her to the room where we could wait with Mia, Grace, and Lulu. In the back, Nelly stood in her beautiful white dress with her eyes closed and she took deep breaths.

Yeah. It was her wedding, not mine. After two years, she and Callaghan were getting married right when he would come home. It was tough planning a wedding when you weren’t in any contact with the groom or groomsmen.  Nonetheless, minutes later, we were all standing in a line after the guests had taken their seats; Grace, then Mia, then me, and then Lulu. Of course behind us was Nelly in her classical, mermaid-style wedding dress. We were waiting for the boys to join us. Their time was capped. They needed to arrive, get here, and change in that order. There was no extra time.

“Hello, beautiful,” Brian greeted to me as he looped his elbow with mine and smiled down to me.

“Hi,” I smiled.

“It’s packed in there,” he commented.

“Nervous?” I asked him. He looked down to me.

“Of course,” he joked.

“Where are the others?” Mia asked him.

“They’re taking a quick shot and trying to make Callaghan think about what he’s doing,” Brian answered.

“Those stupid maggots…” Grace hissed before walking off. You know, even though she was Maid of Honor and in a dress, but she was as scary as ever. She handed Mia her bouquet and started stomping over to the boys’ side of the church where they were.

“Why have a wedding planner when we have Gracie?” Mia teased with a perfect smile. It was true. She had connections with the boys and relayed any information to them for us. She also kept them in check from having their necessities and to their behavior. The only thing I had to do was arrange the bridal party, and do the guest list. Grace and Nelly handled the rest.

Not even five minutes later, three boys walked over with their heads down. Of course the first one to emerge was Archer, who collided into a hug with Lulu. He set her down after one twirl and then kissed her passionately. I was happy that she had a steady relationship for two years, even if Archer was deployed that whole time.

“I’m sorry I wasn’t there to see you first,” Lulu whispered to him as their foreheads leaned on each other’s.

“This time, you’re exempt,” he laughed before kissing her once more. They had a promise to each other that any time he was on leave, no matter where he was come “home” to, that she’d be there to see him first. She kept that promise every time. Lucky for her, this would be her last time because his two year duty was finished and he had been discharged earlier today before he flew here to Sydney.

When he broke the kiss, he looked to the rest of us and greeted us along with Streeter, who had grown past his skinny and gangly body because now he had an average structure with muscles. He was no longer nerdy looking. He had grown out his hair since the last time I saw him—last summer—and yet was still picked on for being a geek.

“Where’s Ty?” Nelly asked. Even though he made crude comments and was quiet any other time, he was a good friend like the others. Brian shifted positions. Right, because he was closer to Ty than anyone else that we had met just two summers ago.

“Ty’s…in the hospital,” Streeter informed. I frowned and started to be concerned. I looked up to Brian who’s jaw was as tense as can be. “His team got bombed when they were searching a vacant house. He went through surgery this morning…that’s the last that I heard…”

“Oh…” everyone said, already starting to put him in our prayers—after all, we were at a church.

What happened next made me feel as if my heart was on lockdown and I already knew that this was reality; I saw Grace and Zac walk out. Of course they were talking as Zac’s eyes remained on her face or on the ground as his hands were folded behind his back. It suited him well as he was in his military suit with colorful metals placed down the majority of the left side of his jacket.

I read his letters that he had written, now, three years ago for me. I could tell he loved me and the way he talked reminded me that I loved him too. But of course, as the letters progressed through that year, he started to close off and it was clear that he was moving on. Now that I see it…he moved on to Grace. A year after I met Grace, she was honorably discharged from the military and I saw her more and more when she stayed with us at the house, occasionally. It wasn’t so bad because I knew she wasn’t mad at me. We didn’t discuss why she was in the first place—because it was obvious—but I had grown to see her as a friend. And I also realized that my assumption with her being the reason to Zac’s genetic change wasn’t investigated at all because it wasn’t needed. It turns out that Joey was right; Stacey—or any girls—was, in fact, Devin’s trigger. He was happily in love with her, and yet always got nervous around her…which was enough to evict his powers away from his nervous system.

And along with that, Joey had investigated into his own triggers because after kissing me that last time, it was finally clear to the both of us that we were over each other. After that, Zac had obviously come to say what he had to say while Joey and Brian gave me my time with the letters. After I lied about my security, Joey went back down to Florida and made up with Meghan. By “made up”, I mean he pleaded to her persistently for months before she even decided to remain friends with him long enough to realize she missed him as much as he missed her and then they got back together. The closure from Joey about me—or maybe his ability to move past it all—made me realize that maybe I was over Zac.
