Chapter 36
Kit's POV
I really have to hand it to my dad. He is such a fast worker. When he wants to accomplish something, he accomplishes it in the shortest time possible.
While Ming and I were taking our sweet time preparing to come down for breakfast, my dad had already contacted Ming's dad and had miraculously made him come around to his way of thinking. He was somehow able to convince Ming's dad that the permanent union of their sons would be the best thing in the world for both fathers.
He announced it to Ming and me even before we had sat down at the breakfast table.
Ming and I were so stunned at the rapid turn of events that we could barely finish the blueberry bagels on our plate which had generous applications of cream cheese on them. I just had to keep drinking orange juice to help me swallow my breakfast and I noticed Ming doing the exact same thing.
My father announced that the following day, Monday, he would be contacting his lawyers to put together the contract binding Ming and me as permanent legal partners, the formal signing of which would take place in the secluded private property by the lake that my father had passed on to me as my birthday present.
The formal ceremony took place exactly a week after. That was how fast my dad wanted Ming's and my legal union to become a reality.
It was a hush-hush affair to keep media and paparazzi away. Only our closest friends and immediate family members were present.
My father had hired a well respected judge to officiate the ceremony. Ming had chosen Mr. Wayo Panitchayasawad as his best man, while I chose Dr. Baramee Vongviphan to be mine. Wayo was a well known business figure but in a different industry from mine so we were not business competitors. Baramee was my primary physician who had made a name for himself as one of the country's best cardiologists. We had to invite Wayo's partner Dr. Phana Kongthanin who was a well known physician like Baramee or Beam as we all fondly called him. Beam's partner Forth could not make it to the ceremonies because he had an important overseas engineering project somewhere in Japan.
The entrance to the lake property was heavily guarded by my dad's security men to keep the media and paparazzi away in case somehow any one of them got wind of the affair.
My dad had hired a group of musicians to provide music for Ming's and my entrance through the row of chairs provided for the guests and all the way up to the front where the judge was waiting in his judge's robe to officiate our union.
The same group of musicians was going to provide the music during the reception after the ceremony.
Both my parents were standing on one side of the aisle while Ming's parents were standing on the other side of the aisle at the top row of chairs closest to the judge.
On cue, as the slow, solemn, but sweet and romantic music started, Ming took my hand and placed it around his elbow.
Step by step he walked me down the aisle as the crowd of loving faces smiled at us.
When we reached the front row of seats, my dad stepped forward and to my greatest of all surprises, he went to hug Ming very tightly instead of me, and then with tears in his eyes, I heard him whisper to Ming "Welcome back to my life now and for always."
I was starting to get jealous when suddenly Ming's dad walked over to me and hugged me tight saying over and over, "My son, my son, you are my son." Of course, after I sign the papers with Ming, I would legally be his son. These fathers, I thought, were acting weird.
After Ming and I said our vows and signed the papers, the judge pronounced our partnership as legally binding and said in solemn tones, "You may seal this union with a kiss."
Suddenly, from the far end of the aisle, we all heard a shrill cry of "NNNOOOOOOHHH ! ! !"
I noticed James my butler, grappling with a kicking and scratching Melanie as he dragged her away from the scene. I would later have to bring James to my physician friends Phana and Beam to tend to any bruises or cuts that James might have suffered while carrying out his loyal duties to me.
THE END THE END THE END
