Chapter 24
Third Person POV
Kit was awakened by a knocking on his door.
"Come in," Kit called out, rubbing the sleep from his eyes.
James walked in.
"A good morning to you, young master, I believe you will be late for your work if you don't hurry out of bed," said James, already opening Kit's closet and sorting through the suits hanging inside it.
"Shit," said Kit, glancing at his bedside clock, "oops, sorry for my English, James."
James just laughed, "People your age and even younger say worse things than what you just said, don't worry about it."
Kit rushed to the bathroom and tried to do all his morning rituals in the shortest time possible. When he rushed back out James had already laid out everything on his made up bed.
"I will be waiting outside your door if you need anything else, young master," said James as he walked out of Kit's room to give him privacy to put on his work suit.
As James stood outside Kit's bedroom door waiting for his young master to finish putting his clothes on, he replayed yesterday evening's events in his mind.
James had kept a respectful silence about the most recent events but he sorely wanted to advise Kit to ward off Melanie from going back into his life and turning it upside down all over again.
He had watched all those miserable months that he had seen his young master go through. His heart broke at seeing Kit bravely going through his daily routine, trying hard to focus on his work to keep his company running smoothly but deep inside he was hurting, hurting really bad. And all because of that Melanie witch who all the time had been faking her affections for Kit and had been seeing someone else behind his back even during their engagement period. And then, going for the kill, she had abandoned Kit at the altar on their wedding day to run off with whoever she had been seeing secretly behind Kit's back.
James made up his mind that if he noticed Kit falling for Melanie all over again, that he was going to do everything in his power to keep Kit out of Melanie's selfish grasp. He was going to protect Kit from Melanie at all cost.
He was startled from his thoughts by the opening of Kit's door.
"Does my tie look straight?" asked Kit.
"As always, no," said James, straightening Kit's tie expertly.
"When you're ready to settle down, you should choose someone who is an efficient tie straightener," said James seriously.
James paused for a moment, and then added, "It's mostly men who can do this really well, though, because they're the ones who wear ties."
Kit gave a sideways glance at his butler. Was James hinting that he should marry a man? Did James secretly disapprove of Melanie but was too polite to tell him?
Kit wondered what James thought of Ming. Wait, what? Why did Kit's mind even turn to Ming at James' mention of marrying a man?
This was ridiculous, Kit scolded himself as he ran down the flight of stairs and rushed out to his waiting limousine.
He had to skip breakfast again.
James was wrong. Well, not really wrong. His advice was just not complete, Kit thought. He not only needed someone who was efficient at straightening ties, he also needed someone who would kiss him awake each morning to make sure that he would have time to eat a good healthy breakfast before rushing off to work.
Ugh, he would have to settle for a grilled cheese sandwich and a glass of orange juice again. His secretary might ask for an increase in salary for this extra work of preparing a hasty breakfast for him almost every work day.
