✷ 029: The Meet.
TOO FAMOUS ! by KissLeclerc
March 15, 2024 # "WHAT THE FUCK."
DEVYN'S ROOM PROVIDED A COZY space for the reunion of her and her dearest friends, Elena and Belle. It's only been two months, but there was lots to catch up on. They were sprawled comfortably across the room, immersed in lively conversation as they caught up on each other's lives.
The soft strains of Devyn's favorite vinyl, Ctrl by SZA, filled the air, playing on the record player perched proudly on her bookshelf. The album, a cherished birthday gift from the year before, infused their gathering with its soulful melodies, enhancing the nostalgic atmosphere of their reunion.
"So then! She kissed me." Elena sighed. "And one thing led to another and—"
"OHHH!" Devyn interrupted with a smirk on her face.
"Don't get too excited. Nothing happened after that." Her friend replied as she soon frowned in response.
"Riiiight." Belle nodded. A finger over her pursed lips as she stared intently. "So, what did happen?"
"We just kissed." Elena replied.
"Then what the fuck do you mean one thing led to another. That hints at something way—"
"Well!!! You did not let me finish." She cut Devyn off.
"Right... Okay, do proceed." The Japanese girl motioned for her friend to continue.
"One thing led to another and she stopped before anything can happen and then left."
"BOOOOOOOOOO?!" Belle groaned as she threw chocolate pretzels like they were tomatoes. "Now, how could you let that happen?"
"Slipped right through my fingers." The girl sighed as she thought about her experiences at the University of Connecticut.
"She sure as hell did." Devyn frowned. "You poor thing."
"Okay, but let's get back on that Ollie train." Belle stared at Devyn. "We have still yet to know how you bagged this man?"
"Oh—SHIT." The girl gasped in shock as she looked at the clock after hearing his name. Realizing she had lost track of time as the hour approached Ollie's landing time.
"WHAT?—WHAT." The brunette was startled at her friend's sudden burst of realization, looking around to see if she could piece anything together.
"I have to go—Ollie lands in like twenty minutes." Devyn shuffled across her room as she hopped off her bed and began to gather things into her purse.
"GIRL." Belle scolded as she rolled her eyes. "You are not making it in time." She laughed.
"DO YOU GUYS WANNA COME?" She asked in a rush, as she threw on a large sweatshirt and spritzed herself with perfume. The trio always invited each other to the most little or outrageous things just for the sake of keeping each other company.
"And suffer on an hour transit? I'm good girl." Elena declined. "We'll meet him eventually."
"I'm gonna take a taxi. Why would I take the subway right now." She groaned. "Do you guys wanna come or no?"
"Uhh.. yeah, no." Belle said with a knowing smile as Devyn playfully scoffed, not taking it close to heart.
At least they were honest.
"So you hate me?" She stopped in her tracks and sighed before grabbing her headphones since she'd need them.
"Just a bit." The brunette with glasses smiled.
"Right! Well! If my parents say yes to Australia, you guys only have only two days." Devyn explained, shoving on her New Balance 550s.
"Now, I gotta go." She took a breath and walked to her door. "Uhm...??" She turned around. "Are you guys gonna leave or just stay in my room?" Her question aired into the room.
"We'll stay a little bit, but we'll be out of your hair by the time you're back. Gotta leave you guys some privacy for the family meet." Elena laid back into the bed and got comfortable with Belle cuddling into her.
"Gonna NAP!" The girls exclaimed.
"Right..." Devyn nodded. "Okay, well enjoy my bed." She laughed before leaving them be. The three were extremely close so this wasn't anything new anyways.
Making her way down the stairs, Devyn grabbed her house keys off the key rack and bid her parents a goodbye. Max waving with a devious grin as he sat, sprawled out on the couch watching Breaking Bad.
"Will be back in an hour or two! See you guys later!" She called out. "And just a warning! Belle and Elena are still here, so don't be frightened when they make their appearance!" The girl announced before slamming the door behind her.
Making her way through Manhattan, Devyn approached a busy main street where it would be easiest for her to call for a taxi which she quickly succeeded in doing.
Getting into the yellow vehicle and telling the driver where to go, she was soon on her way to the airport as she pulled on her headphones.
As she blasted music and scrolled through her phone, Devyn sent a few messages back and forth with Max. Her heart beating faster by the second as the hour of her boyfriend meeting her family was soon to arrive.
Upon arriving to the terminal that Ollie was sure to be exiting out of after a 25 minute drive, including traffic, Devyn gathered her things and paid for the taxi, soon entering the airport with a small pang in her chest.
"Aw, shit." She gasped as her eyes darted around the bustling airport terminal. Herds of people held up colorful welcome posters, each one a cheerful greeting.
She suddenly remembered, with a sinking feeling, that she had forgotten the small poster she had made for Ollie. The plan had been to embarrass him with it, a playful gesture now lost in her absentmindedness.
Sighing in defeat, Devyn checked her phone to see that Ollie's location updated, his contact now displaying that he was in New York, and as if it was the most perfect timing, he called her.
"Hi! Hello!" She was quick to answer, immediately hearing his laugh through the other line.
"I've gone through international customs, and I'm about to grab my luggage, are you here?" Ollie was quick to ask. "Oh wait, my suitcase is right here..." He spoke to himself before a small grunt followed after, assuming he had just retrieved his bag.
"I'm near the exits, should I come find you?" Devyn glanced around the building as his voice continued to speak in her headphones.
"Which exit?" He asked. "Wait—" She was soon met with a beeping noise, indicating he hung up.
Confused by this gesture, Devyn adjusted the tote bag sat on her arms before pulling down her headphones to glance around the airport, her eyes soon locking with the happy brunette that was making his way towards her.
Caught by surprise, the girl smiled wide as she now began to approach him in order to meet him in their middle, soon engulfing each other in a large embrace where Ollie quite literally swooped her off her feet.
"Hi!" She laughed in satisfaction as she held him tight, soon being met with the ground after he set her down and quickly pulled her in for a quick kiss.
"Oh!" Devyn titled her head as she let go. "Missed me that much?" She quirked a brow.
"Not even a little." Ollie shrugged with a playful smirk as he pulled away. "Riiiight." She nodded before he laughed and bent down to place a kiss on her head.
"Shall we?" She asked, holding her hand out for his before he gladly took it. "We shall!"
Walking hand in hand as he carried his luggage, the couple exited the airport before Devyn called out for once again another taxi, but this time, it took a little longer than anticipated since they were at a busy airport.
After getting their things settled, and most importantly getting Ollie freshened up and checked into his hotel a few streets away from Devyn's place, the couple eventually arrived back to the Suzuki residence, her nerves soon firing up again with anxiety.
"It'll be okay." Ollie rubbed her shoulder as they approached the steps that lead to her family's condo. "Deep breaths, Dev. Whenever you're ready, just go for it." He waited patiently as she groaned into his chest.
"I'm gonna walk in first.." She paused. "Announce your arrival, and let you in... is that okay?"
"Sounds perfect." He smiled. Looking down at his girlfriend before brushing a strand of hair from her face.
Squeezing his hand for a greater measure, Devyn soon let go before walking up the steps to unlock the front door with her keys and let herself in.
"Family!" She called out. Max being the first one to quickly run to the entrance. "Hi!—Oh?" He was clearly met with disappointment. "Where is he?!" The boy mouthed the words as their parents soon joined along with Kiko and Klaus following behind.
"Is he here?" Adaminta Suzuki quickly asked in confusion as she stood closely beside her husband.
"Uhh—Yeah.. He's outside still, but! I just want to make a few things clear." Devyn said through a shaky tone as she glanced at Max for comfort. Her brother picking up on the signs as he held a reassuring thumbs up.
"Make what clear?" Her dad asked.
"I don't want you to freak out too.. much." She bit down on her bottom lip nervously as the man still seemed confused. "Like, there's one thing I've been hiding—"
"Devyn, what's going on?" Her mom now seemed on high alert as this meeting felt ominous.
"You know what... I'm just gonna let him in." Devyn closed her eyes and took a deep breath before turning back to the entrance.
Creaking the door slightly open, she motioned for Ollie to come up the steps before he smiled wide, soon taking his hand into hers when she turned her head back to her family.
"My sweet family... This is Ollie." Devyn said through a laugh as she dragged him in, fully opening the door and revealing the familiar boy to her parents.
"Ollie, these are my parents." She presented with a small motion as he waved and said hello. Her dogs sniffing at him before growling a tad.
"WHAT THE FUCK?" Her dad erupted with complete shock. Frozen in place as he stared at the tall teen standing in his doorway. "Devyn?! What?!" His glares of utter disbelief switched between his daughter and the familiar racing driver.
"MY GUUUUY!" Max said excitedly. Walking forward to give his sister's boyfriend a friendly bro-hug, patting his back aggressively.
"Okay, tone it down." Devyn shoved him away from Ollie as he just laughed at the boy's antics.
"Pleasure to meet you, Mr. Suzuki." He held his hand out for Hiro's, but the man was still standing frozen in place. "Mrs. Suzuki.." Ollie decided he'll try again for another handshake in a moment, turning to Devyn's mom instead.
"Race.. car.. driver?" Her mom put the pieces together as she pointed at him. The woman's hand still rested in his as they shared an awkward handshake.
"Dad?" Devyn glanced at the man who was staring at Ollie as if he was an alien from a different galaxy. Completely shell shocked. "Are you okay?"
"THIS OLLIE BEARMAN?" The man stated the obvious as he pointed. His words piling into broken English, extremely gagged at the events currently happening.
"Yes..." The girl laughed. "This is my boyfriend." She nodded, taking the brunette's hand into hers and stood beside him proudly.
"Oh my god." Hiro was still yet to take everything in. Holding his hand over his heart as he hunched over his knees the take a deep breath.
"Okay, dad! Breathe! Deep breaths!" Max was quick to come to their dad's aide. Helping the man acknowledge that this was real life.
"This is joke." His broken english was still prominent, Ollie laughing at how cute it was.
"Dad..." Devyn took the man's hand. "Meet, Ollie.." She smiled softly as she calmly and properly introduced them once again.
"Pleasure meeting you, of course." Ollie smiled again, Hiro practically in tears at the sight of him standing in his house.
"Can we hug?" The man finally found his train of thought, receiving a laugh from everyone in the room.
"Yeah! Of course." The brunette nodded happily before he held his arms open for the man, bringing him into an embrace that lasted longer than expected.
"I FUCKING TOLD YOU!" Max laughed in Devyn's face, thinking back to when he bet money that their anti-physical touch father would hug Ollie.
"You're dating this guy?!" He turned to Devyn after letting go of the hug, still in clear disbelief.
"Surprise..." She said nervously as he just found himself laughing.
"ADA!" Hiro called out to his wife happily. "THIS OLLIE BEARMAN!" He exclaimed once again as she nodded at her husband who had finally registered everything before he pulled out his phone.
"Okay, no pictures." Devyn was quick to push down the camera he was about to shove in Ollie's face. "Save it for later."
"I'm so sorry." He was quick to apologize. "I'm just a big, big, fan, this is so crazy." He explained. "My daughter? Your girlfriend?"
"Yes, sir." Ollie nodded with a wide smile, glancing over at Devyn proudly.
"Please, call me Hiro." He held his hands out again for a handshake. Firmly gripping the brunette's hand with both of his palms. "It's very nice to meet you. I feel like I'm in a dream, come pinch me!" The man's playful banter was soon coming out in full swing.
"Devyn? Why didn't you tell me you were—Do you know who this is?!" He asked.
"My too famous celebrity crush?" She quirked a brow as the man laughed at her playful jokes before turning back to the brit.
"I've heard you're a big fan?" Ollie created small talk, shoving his hands in his pockets as Devyn went to stand directly beside him.
"Come, come." Hiro motioned. "I will show you, my collection." He insisted as Max laughed once again, being right about every prediction he had made so far.
"I hate you." Devyn mouthed at her little brother.
"I'm just right all the time." The sixteen year old snickered as they followed after their dad who was leading Ollie into the other room.
"Devyn, come." Their mom was quick to interrupt. "Help me set the table, and Max, make sure your dad doesn't die." She joked around with a wink before placing an arm around her daughter.
Respectfully listening to what she was told to do, Devyn followed after her mom to set the table in the dining room, when the woman opened in conversation.
"Someone forgot to mention their boyfriend was a racing driver." Adaminta snickered as she set out chopsticks and soup spoons for everyone.
"Get a fork for him, he's bad at using chopsticks." Devyn corrected her mother's choice of utensils, letting out a laugh. "And to answer your statement, I kept it a secret to see how you guys would react."
"I'm happy for you, he is very handsome." The woman winked. "Your dad seems to love him too."
"I hope.." Devyn said nervously. "Do you like him?"
"Well, I will get to know him as we have dinner, but he seems like a respectful young man."
"Does it seem random to you?" The girl asked.
"A little bit—I will say I did not expect to see a racing driver in my house this evening." The older lady smiled. "Your dad's face was priceless, I'll give you that one."
"Max said it would be a good reaction. I loved it." Devyn smiled. Pouring out cups of water to distribute at the seats.
"Alright, well. Go get them, I'm gonna prepare the bowls now." Her mom insisted as she she nodded happily. "Are you sure? I can help you."
"No, go ahead, make sure your brother and father haven't driven that boyfriend of yours insane." Adaminta laughed.
"Riiiight. Will do." The teenager was quick to excuse herself.
Leaving the kitchen, Devyn walked down the hall toward the room where her father proudly displayed his extensive collection of Formula One memorabilia.
As she got closer, the sound of joyful laughter filled the air. And upon entering the room, she was greeted by the sight of her dad, animated and enthusiastic, in the middle of recounting one of his favorite stories.
Standing with his arms crossed and a broad smile on his face, Ollie listened intently, clearly enjoying the lively conversation as he joined in and out, interacting happily with his girlfriend's dad and brother.
"Hey!" Devyn announced herself after observing the three. "Dinner is ready." She smiled as the guys turned to look at her, all with happy expressions on their face.
"You ever eat traditional japanese noodle?" Hiro pat Ollie on the back with a wide grinning expression.
"Uhh—Devyn has made me some before." He smiled. "It was delicious."
"Oh—Pshhhh. My daughter's cooking is no where as tasty to mine. You will eat real Japanese cooking this time, my friend." The man chuckled, throwing slight shade at his daughter as Max and Ollie laughed, leaving Devyn with a dropped jaw.
"You taught me everything I know?!" She was playfully offended.
"Your technique still needs work." He continued to tease.
"Very funny." The girl scoffed before Ollie placed an arm around her.
"After you taste my soup and noodle, tell me which you like better." Hiro pointed at the brunette as they all entered the kitchen for a sit down meal. "Me or Devyn."
"Will do." Ollie nodded happily, receiving a gleeful laugh from the man in response.
And Devyn couldn't help but feel her heart flutter at the interactions.
