TOO FAMOUS ! by KissLeclerc
March 14, 2024 # "Oliver."
"OUR GIRL IS HOME!" Hiro Suzuki exclaimed as Devyn walked into her beloved childhood Manhattan residence. A smile on her face as she set down her bag and lanyard of keys before bringing her parents into a hug.
"Missed you guys." Devyn said in satisfaction as she felt the comforting embrace from her mom and dad. "HI BABIES!!" She squealed, looking down at her two dogs; Klaus and Kiko who were jumping on her in excitement. "Oh, that's a good girl!" She rubbed Kiko's belly.
"Good flight? How much was the taxi? Do you need money? Are you tired?" Her dad interrupted. Quickly tending to her needs and bombarding her with questions that lingered through his subtle Japanese accent.
"My flight was okay, nothing too crazy happened." The girl said softly as she stood back up and discarded the headphones that sat around her neck, setting it aside on a table. "Taxi was decent, don't worry about paying me back." She insisted.
"And I'm exhausted. But! Also very hungry."
"Perfect!" Her mother smiled. "Your dad has prepared dinner for you." She rubbed her daughter's shoulder before bringing her into another hug.
"IS DEVYN HERE?" The familiar voice of Max called out from the staircase. "DEVYN!" The boy caught glimpse of his older sister before rushing down the steps to engulf her in a big hug.
"Oh! Someone's excited!" She laughed as he lifted her off the ground, tightly wrapping his sister in a hug.
"I missed you." He frowned as he set her down. Devyn proceeding to push him away in a playful manner of disgust.
"Girl, it's only been two months." She huffed. "But oh my god, you've grown so much more?" She continued before glancing up at her brother who seemed to have had a growth spurt since the last time she saw him.
"I am now a whopping five foot ten." He crossed his arms and smiled cockily. Standing up against their dad who was clearly shorter. "You think I'll reach six foot?" The sixteen year old boy began to flex his biceps as Devyn shot him a disgusted glare, looking him up and down.
"It would be a miracle." She snickered as his expression fell dead, standing up straight to stare at her in disbelief.
"Am I taller than your boyfriend?" He asked knowingly as her face sat unamused.
"Not a chance." Devyn shook her head.
"Oh! He is coming tomorrow, right?" Her dad was quick to rejoin the conversation and ask.
"Can we discuss this while I eat..." She requested as her stomach grumbled in hunger.
"Yes. I'll get you a plate ready." Her mom pat her back and excused herself to the kitchen.
"Let me put my bags in my room." Devyn said through a yawn. "Max, help." She glanced at her brother with a knowing stare.
Nodding quickly, Max was quick to help his sister with her luggage, happily hauling her decently sized suitcase upstairs as she just carried her backpack.
"Do you still sleep in my bed?" Devyn asked as she walked into her room. Her bed a slight mess as Max glanced at her with a superseded grin.
"Well. It's comfier than mine. We both know that." She snickered. "It's the best for my mid-day naps."
"Okay! Well! At least fix it when you sleep in it, doof." She rolled her eyes before quickly adjusting her comforter and sheets.
"So, What time does he come tomorrow?" Max was quick to change the subject as he stood in her room, crossing his arms. Watching his sister get her things in orderz
"Late afternoon... Evening—ish." She took a breath and turned to him. "Gonna taxi to the airport, retrieve him, probably take him to his hotel first, and then bring him here."
"Oh, I'm so excited." The boy laughed as Devyn felt herstel grow more anxious by the second. "Dad was so happy for his points finish in Saudi. He's gonna fangirl so hard."
"You think I don't know that? I saw his Facebook when I was lurking." The girl scoffed before feeling a pit in her stomach again. "I don't know why I'm so anxious. Dad will love him without a doubt."
"Yeah, he's actually gonna want you to him Ollie ASAP." Max leaned against her door frame and teased her. "How much you wanna bet he's gonna show off his collection room?"
"Wouldn't put it past him at all." Devyn laughed as she thought about the extra room in their household dedicated to their dad's obsession to the sport of Formula One. From shelves of hats to posters and many small replicas of the cars, it was no secret their dad was a huge fan.
"What do you think mom will say?"
"Well, he's tall, handsome, successful, and handsome." Her brother shrugged. "Good enough for mom."
"You said handsome twice..." Devyn quirked a brow at Max. "Yeah, I know." He shrugged.
"So like... how did you manage to bag him?" The boy continued to ask. The question making her flash back to the text she sent months ago.
The very unserious text that she has yet to re-acknowledge.
"I sent a DM." She replied with little to no detail. "And shockingly enough, he responded."
"What the hell did you say?" Max laughed. Curious of his sister's game card.
"None of your business." Devyn brushed it off and removed the zip up sweater that sat on her upper body.
"Fine! Be like that." He crossed his arms. "I'll just get Ollie to tell me what you said." The smirk on his face was devious, making her roll her eyes back in disbelief and annoyance.
"No! You will not be doing that." She declined. "Now, please! I would like to eat so I can shower and then go to sleep in my beautiful, wonderful, comfortable bed."
"And then you can wake up and count down the hours until dad meets Ollie." Max smirked with a laugh following after. The thought making Devyn anxious once again.
"Oh, I'm gonna throw up." She groaned.
"You're being dramatic." The boy shook his head. "Everything will be okay. Mom will love him, and dad lost
especially. There's nothing to worry about."
"I can't help it, doofus." Devyn glared in annoyance.
"Yeah, yeah." He held his arms up in surrender. "Anyways, come on. I think your dinner is ready."
Taking a deep breath, Devyn nodded and followed after her brother. As they made their way down the staircase, the thought of the events leading up to tomorrow ate at her body. Nothing but anxiety and overthinking thoughts consuming her mind.
But she kept trying to convince herself it would be fine.
Nothing should go wrong. Everything will be okay.
She just needs to believe it first.
Taking a seat at the usual spot at the dinner table she'd been sitting at for the 18 almost 19 years of her life, Devyn took a sip of her water.
Although her family had already eaten dinner, they still sat with her to keep her company and talk mindlessly about anything new with their lives.
They were a very close knit family.
Waiting patiently, she was soon met with the comforting smell of her dad's freshly made Japanese curry. A dish she happened to cherish with her entire heart—especially since Hiro Suzuki was an incredible chef.
"So, how's school?" Her mom questioned as she took the first bite of her meal.
"School is good. My midterms were better than I anticipated but—Ohh. wow, this is better than I remember." She exhaled through her nose in satisfaction before washing down her food with a large gulp of water.
"You like?" He asked with a happy grin. "My chefs and I have been working on a new recipe but we're just testing things out." Her dad continued to explain as she nodded.
"How are your restaurants?" She asked in curiosity.
"Business is booming!" The man said with a wide smile. The phrase sounding off as he has never said something like that before. "Everybody loves their Japanese cuisine."
Kyoto Kitchen was a small restaurant chain owned by Hiro Suzuki. With nine and soon to be ten locations across the east coast, the man found success in his talent and passion for cooking when he opened his first location in Brooklyn, New York.
"We should take Oll—Your boyfriend to get some food from there." Max bit down a laugh as he nearly said Ollie's name. Reaching over to grab a piece of chicken from Devyn's plate.
"No need! I can feed him right in this house." Their dad insisted as he laughed.
"Hmm, wait. Devyn, what is your boyfriend's name?" Her mom quirked a brow as she glanced. "I don't think you've ever told us?"
"Oliver." Devyn plainly said out loud as Max wiggled his eyebrows with a smirk. "Ohhhhhhh—Very interesting!" He smiled as she chewed her food in annoyance.
"Is he white?" Their dad asked. The question making her laugh loudly in her mind. "Very." She replied.
"Can we see a picture of him?"
"Uhh—I don't have my phone on me, I left it upstairs." She replied with a lie, hiding the device between her thighs to avoid showing off Ollie right now. "Besides! You guys will see him and meet him tomorrow."
"Is he even real?" Hiro snickered at his daughter, receiving a light smack from his wife.
"Dad." Devyn glared. "Yes, he is! And I'm sure you'll love him!" She smiled.
"Will most definitely love him." The boy said knowingly.
"Do you know him or something?" Their dad seemed to be getting suspicious with Max's behavior, making Devyn groan internally. "No! No, not at all. I just have this gut feeling!" He smiled.
"Well, I hope I like him too." Hiro nodded as he took grabbed a piece of chicken from Devyn's plate.
