✷ 025: Goodbye.
TOO FAMOUS ! by KissLeclerc
February 12, 2024 # "NO WHAT."
"YOU'RE A WEIRDO!" Devyn laughed, staring at Ollie in disbelief. "I can't believe I just paid for your disgusting ice cream." She teased him, unable to stop mocking his flavor choice as they continued to banter.
"I can't believe you hate mint chocolate?" The boy was still in shock as they continued their walk back to her dorm. "It's my favorite!"
"You're sick." She shook her head, cringing at his choice as she continued to enjoy her strawberries and cream.
"Maybe I should reconsider this entire ... relationship of ours..." He abruptly stopped and turned her around effortlessly. His words trailing off.
"Excuse me?" She scoffed. Not at all taking his words seriously.
"My girlfriend can't hate mint chocolate chip." His lips thinned as he shrugged, continuing to enjoy his sweet and cold treat.
"Oh! That's unfortunate. Because she does." Devyn frowned, cringing at his cone as she watched him happily enjoy it.
"It's not even that bad!" Ollie laughed, offering a lick of his ice cream as she automatically declined. "Try it!"
"Get that away from me." She held a hand up as he tried to shove it in her face. "OLIVER JAMES." The girl continued to scold after he got a little too close for comfort and smeared it on her nose.
"Oh no! My hand slipped!" His voice laced with playful sarcasm, continuing to look down at Devyn as she wiped her nose with a finger and smeared the remaining residue on his sweater. "Oh, COME ON!"
"You started it." She snickered. Attempting to walk off but he pulled her back effortlessly once again.
"Why don't you like it exactly?" Ollie continued to press this question. "Because it's like cold toothpaste."
"It's nothing like that though..."
"Well it is to me!" Devyn argued with a playful shrug as her boyfriend just laughed in response.
"We're breaking up." Ollie matched her tone. The two of them both knowing he was kidding but she still scoffed out loud.
"GOOD!" She continued to banter as they just laughed. "I'll just go find Marcus and—"
"Okay, hold on." Ollie was quick to stop her. "Now wait a second." He quirked a brow.
"Yeah, I'll go find Marcus and try to work things out with him..." Devyn kept dragging the joke in attempts to piss him off and it was surely working.
"That's not even funny." His expression was unamused.
"Unless we get back together." She said in a small whisper, nearly laughing to herself.
"Oh! Okay perfect." The boy smiled. "Do you want to get back together?" He asked, continuing to eat his ice cream.
"Hmmm... No." Devyn declined.
"WHAT?" His jaw practically fell.
"Kidding! I would love to actually." Her laugh caused a smile on Ollie's face before he took her hand and continued to make their walk back to her dorm.
Approaching the entrance of her building, Ollie did his usual as he opened the door for her and followed behind. The afternoon was yet to arrive, and the couple didn't have much planned except for getting Ollie to the airport by 7PM. They just wanted to spend their remaining time together any way they could. Sitting in silence could've even sufficed.
Finishing her ice cream, Devyn disposed of her napkin at the trashcans near the elevator as the boy beside her soon did the same since he finished. The warmth of the dorm building heating up her cheeks as she was freezing from both the treat and weather.
"Are you packed?" She asked, glancing at Ollie as they stepped into the elevator.
"Yeah." He nodded. "Figured to just get it over with so we have no interruptions today."
"Beautiful." Devyn grinned before the doors of the lift opened, letting the couple off on the third floor as per usual.
Arriving back in her dorm, Reneé was sound asleep as expected, causing the couple to glance at each other before they let out small laughs.
"I'm fighting the urge to nap. But, I'm tired." Devyn slipped off her shoes and extra coat layer.
"We could take a nap, if you'd like." Ollie shrugged. "I'm up for anything you want. We could even just do our thing and watch movies until... you know." He mentioned.
"Oh! Riiight! Thanks for reminding me." She said unamused, not wanting to acknowledge the fact he was leaving later tonight. "Actually—No! You're not leaving."
"Oh.." The boy pursed his lips. "Of course."
"Turn around, real quick." She requested as she wanted to put on sweatpants. Ollie quickly nodding and doing as he was told.
Slipping into her cozy sweatpants, Devyn carelessly tossed the jeans she had been wearing over the back of her desk chair. With a sigh of relief, she quickly plopped onto her bed, the mattress softly cradling her tired body.
Across the room, Ollie let out a big yawn, a smile spreading across his face as he made his way toward her. Seeing Devyn with her arms outstretched in an inviting gesture, he wasted no time. He climbed onto the bed and nestled on top of her chest, wrapping his arms around her like a contented toddler seeking warmth.
"You're really heavy." Devyn breathed out as she ran her fingers back and forth through his curls.
"Don't care." He mumbled in response.
As they laid together, the room filled with a comforting silence; well, minus Renee's small snores. Devyn felt the warmth of Ollie's body meld into hers, and soon, their eyes grew heavy. The steady rhythm of his heartbeat against her chest lulled them both into a peaceful nap. The world outside faded away, leaving them in a cocoon of serenity.
Hours later, they stirred awake, the afternoon sun casting a gentle glow through the window. At her desk, Reneé absentmindedly ate from a cup of noodles, her legs tangled in a crisscross position on the chair. She was engrossed in a facetime call with a familiar face, that Devyn couldn't quite grasp yet.
Stretching lazily, Devyn glanced at the clock and then at Ollie, who gave her a sleepy smile. Neither felt like getting up, so Devyn reached for her laptop that sat on her nightstand, seeing that the time was nearly 3PM.
They didn't have much time left.
"Oh—Hey!" Reneé had turned her head, looking up from her phone to acknowledge the two. "Goodmorning."
"Oh, are they awake?"
"Is that Kimi?" Ollie mumbled as he recognized the voice "Oh!—Yeah." The blonde laughed, picking up her phone to show him the screen.
"Ciao!" The boy waved as Kimi's laughs were audible through the phone. "Mate, you look so cute."
"Stop...." Ollie blushed. "You look good yourself."
"Okay, that's enough." Reneé pulled her phone away as Devyn glared at him, the two boys snickering in response.
"How long have you been up, Ren?" The girl asked her roommate. "About an hour." She shrugged. "By the way, you guys looked so cute. It made me quite emotional." Reneé sighed. "Just remember your roots, Dev. I was the one you cuddled every night first."
"Ohhhh trust me, I will never forget." The tired girl flirted back, sending a wink as Ollie wrapped an arm around his girlfriend out of jealousy.
"Don't mind me. She's all yours now." Reneé rolled her eyes before putting her attention back on Kimi, grabbing her headphones to put on since the couple in the room was now awake.
"Wait do you have to be at the airport by 7, or is your flight at 7?" Devyn mumbled at Ollie as she thought about the remaining time they had left.
"My flight is at 7..."
"Girl." Her face deadpanned. "And it's an international flight?" She asked.
"Yes." The boy nodded.
"So... we get there at roughly... 5:00?" She frowned.
"Around that time... yeah."
"This is so awful." Devyn groaned as he laughed at her subtle frustration.
With just two hours left before she had to get Ollie to the airport, Devyn decided to make the most of their time together and even suggested a few rounds of Uno as he readily agreed.
They spent their pass time in lively competition, their laughter filling the room as they strategized and teased each other playfully, while Reneé joined in for a couple small rounds.
As the clock ticked closer to their departure time, they reluctantly packed up their things, knowing that their weekend together was officially coming to its end.
After making sure he had everything, Devyn summoned an Uber, which drove them to the airport , and more specifically the terminal Ollie was flying out of. The ride was filled with quiet conversation and stolen glances, Devyn's heart aching at the fact that this was the end of the road for the amazing time he had graced her with.
Upon arriving at the airport, amidst the bustling crowds, Devyn insisted she would just transit back to her dorm as she walked Ollie inside, hand in hand.
Approaching the furthest check point she could lead him, the tears began to well up in her eyes as she hugged him tightly.
"Don't cry!" Ollie's smile soon turned into a small frown, his heart aching because the goodbye was hitting him just the same.
"Oh, trust me." Devyn sniffed. "I'm really trying not to." She laughed into her sleeves as she wiped her eyes. "You know how ridiculous it is to cry over a boy?"
"Oh, alright." He suppressed a laugh before taking her into another hug.
"I'll see you in a month! Alright?" He mumbled as his chin rested on her head. Devyn slowly nodding as she cried like a baby into his chest.
"See you in a month." She laughed. "Oh my god, I need to stop." Her tears continued to pour, the crying continuously getting worse. "It's just a month, I don't know why I'm being a bitch right now." The girl looked up at him as he took her face by his hands, wiping away anymore loose tears with his thumbs.
"I'll call you first thing when I land, okay?" Ollie smiled as she tried to mirror the same expression.
"You sound clingy..." Devyn tried to joke, but instead she practically contradicted herself.
"You're the one sobbing at the moment."
"You think I don't know that, you turd?" She closed her eyes as they began to sting.
"Just thought I'd let you know." His voice was comforting.
"You should get going, TSA looks ridiculously long." Devyn finally tried to end it here so she could stop crying in front of him, also glancing at the security line that extended through the building.
"I don't want to leave you yet..." Ollie frowned.
"Well! You kinda have to!" Her voice congested and her eyes still wet as she looked up at him. "I will see you in a month." She told him as it was also a reminder for herself.
"Can't wait to meet your parents!" He shined his gummy smile. The gesture making her feel warm. "Can't wait either." Devyn laughed.
"So... yeah. See you then?" Their goodbye was coming to its end, but they really didn't want it to.
"Of course." She smiled wide, her tears beginning to dry but new ones were still forming.
Adjusting the strap of his bag that sat on his shoulder, Ollie effortlessly pulled Devyn in with one hand, holding the girl securely by her lower back as he embraced her once more.
Pulling away, he softly smiled down at his girlfriend before leaning down to place a long and steady kiss goodbye, followed by a couple more pecks of assurance and care.
"Bye, Devyn." He held her hands as he began to pull away.
"Bye, Ollie." She let go of his hands before he got one more good look at her and turned on his heel.
Taking a deep breath, Devyn watched him walk away, silently praying he wouldn't turn around as she knew that it would make her more of a mess than she already was. It also felt embarrassing to be crying over something like this.
So, thankfully, he didn't.
As Ollie disappeared into the distance at the airport, she felt the weight of their long-distance relationship settle in. The thought of not having him by her side for weeks was almost unbearable. She already missed his presence, his smile, and his comforting words.
She knew she was being slightly dramatic, it all just sucked. Devyn really liked Ollie.
But she knew it was only a month until they'd be reunited.
And she couldn't wait.
