✷ 021: A Confession.
TOO FAMOUS ! by KissLeclerc
February 12, 2024 # "I Don't Know."
ONCE THE EVENING APPROACHED, Reneé and the others eventually left Devyn and Ollie alone in the dorm. After hours of plotting, planning, and discussing, the four girls decided that perhaps an Australian spring break could be arranged, and that felt nothing but exciting for them.
Well. Most of them. Kinda..
As everything was getting settled, Devyn found herself somewhat indifferent with a nagging ache eating at her body. She felt a mix of anxiety and hesitation, especially as her relationship with Ollie was progressing faster than anticipated.
It was just a sudden realization.
It was not uncommon for her to feel these random outbursts of emotions, it was a usual thing she struggled with. Ollie knew little details about it as she has barely opened up about it, but right now, she felt like something needed to be mentioned, but she didn't know how to bring it up.
She wanted to at least let him know what he was getting into.
Which was having an anxious girlfriend.
From being unsure to what everything will lead to in the future, the terrifying idea of him possibly leaving her one day that seemed to be haunting her deeply, and just the lingering thought of her family being unaware of her relationship with a certain someone, Devyn felt stuck, and she was unsure about where to start when it came to tending to these emotions.
Lying beside Ollie on her bed as the two watched Adventure Time on her laptop, she had a fleeting sense ticking at the back of her neck, it felt permanent to her as she rubbed it constantly, and he obviously noticed.
Thank god.
"Are you feeling alright?" He asked, reaching forward to pause the show to give her his full attention.
"I'm okay." She hesitantly glanced at him as she mindlessly picked at her nails.
"You're a bad liar." Ollie sighed as he adjusted his seated position, closing and pushing away the laptop so he could properly face her.
"It's fine—Don't worry about it." Devyn shook it off as he took a breath, straightening her posture like he did.
"I don't want to pressure you, so I won't. But just know that when you talk, I will listen." He rubbed her back.
Finally looking at him with a small weight lifting from her shoulders, she softly smiled as he leaned forward to press a kiss on her forehead.
"Thank you." Devyn let out a brief and soft laugh. "But really, I'll be okay. I don't wan to burden you with my issues." She pursed her lips. Ollie quirking a brow in response with a cheeky, but suppressed grin.
"Not a thing." He replied, shrugging at his shoulders.
"What?" Devyn furrowed her eyes brows as Ollie brought her closer. "You being a burden... Not a thing." He mumbled as she let out a laugh.
"You're my girlfriend... reminder.."
"Not even for a full 24 hours yet, you doof." She snickered. Her smile slowly fading away as her mind lingered back to her previous state.
"Don't care." Ollie shrugged. "I just wanna know what's going on in that pretty little mind of yours." He playfully poked at her head as she glanced at him with a small grin.
"Try a severe anxiety disorder." She tried to play it off casually as he just nodded in understanding.
"Tell me more?" He looked her in the eyes with a soft gaze. Wanting to solve every puzzle piece in her brain and protect everything her kind soul has to offer.
"I—Well." She wasn't expecting that answer. Instead, she was expecting him to judge her or be weirded out. And truthfully, that was just the anxiety talking.
"Just something I've been struggling with for the last three years." Devyn shrugged, finally admitting something. "It's still new to me." She nervously laughed, briefly looking into his eyes as he intently listened, which made her look away.
"So, what's on your mind right now...?" Ollie seemed hesitant to ask, unsure of how to go about this, but he really just wanted to be there for her.
"A lot of things." Devyn replied with a small chuckle that was quick to end as soon as it started. "Starting with ... you and me, basically..." She confessed.
"I don't know, I sometimes have doubts about it." She continued to explain as she started talking about their relationship.
"It's all so new, and the thought of you leaving—It's just a scary idea I get sometimes because with the short amount of time I've known you..." She trailed off.
"I don't know how I'd function without you now." Her tone seemed ashamed as she admitted it. Not wanting to sound insane but it was her whole hearted truth.
"We've briefly discussed this and you were quick to shut down my doubts but it's a genuine feeling I have deep down inside and I can't shake it off sometimes." She looked him in the eyes once again as he stared at her with a soft smile.
"I understand." Ollie eventually replied, taking a deep breath. "I'll reassure you as much as I need to, so Devyn..."
"I'm here for the long run." He admitted, continuing to draw mindless circles on her back as his hand was still placed there. Her heavy breathing slowing down by the second.
"How do you know that.." She mumbled in a low voice.
"Truthfully, I don't." He paused as it made her heart briefly stop. "But it's something I just feel."
"God." She closed her eyes at his sweet words. Hiding her face into the palm of her hands as she let out soft giggles.
"It's the truth!" Identical sounds began to flow from him. "I did ask you to be my girlfriend. And that's obviously because I want to be with you."
"But... why..." Devyn's forehead wrinkled.
"Why not?" He quirked a brow as he brought her in closer once again.
"I don't know," She replied, feeling like she sounded repetitive, but it was real. It was difficult to explain why she felt the way she did. She didn't have an answer; it was something that just happened naturally.
"I feel like you could have anyone you wanted and yet it's me..." Her own words made her cringe. "Sometimes I feel like it's a sick joke."
"I guarantee you that it's not." Ollie let out a breath through his nose. "And I would choose you over and over again." His words were used to reassure her. "If you put me in a room full of every girl on this planet, it will only be you I run to."
"Good lord." She grumbled, her heart racing at his sweet words. "You're so sick." She suppressed her geeking smile.
"It's my whole hearted truth." His tone was genuine. Smiling softly before he pulled her into a soft embrace, holding her close as they sat in silence, the only sound being the steady rhythm of their breathing.
In that moment, Devyn felt that no matter what challenges she faced, as long as she faced it with him, maybe they would be okay.
"What factory did they make you in. Jesus fuck." She mumbled into his chest as he laughed. Pulling away to see her teared up, but she was quick to wipe it away.
"You're so disgustingly perfect." Devyn played with her fingers nervously as he just watched her.
"I try." Ollie replied with a smug lift at his shoulders, shrugging nonchalantly.
"Thank you for listening." She smiled. The same expression appearing on his face in response. "Always." He nodded.
"Do you feel better?" Ollie asked.
"A little, yeah." Devyn admitted.
"Is there anything else on your mind?" He wanted to make sure she got everything off her chest, in hopes it would ease her even more.
"Well." She tilted her head. "There's never not anything on my mind." A small laugh escaped her lips. "I guess... it's also my family."
"What about them?" Ollie quirked a brow as she sighed.
"They need to meet you... eventually."
"Right."
"My parents are a little strict, but they've been pestering me about getting a boyfriend... as embarrassing as it is to admit..." She trailed off.
"I just don't know how'd they react to you." Her words came out in a subtle mumble, glancing at him as she continued to empty out her thoughts.
"How would they react?" He questioned intently, curious of her answer.
"I don't think it would be bad... I just don't—Okay, so basically." Devyn tried to find the right use of words. Once again being unable to explain her thought process.
"I guess it's also the thought of going to Melbourne for spring break, and when I tell them about you—Okay hold on, I don't know where I'm going. I feel like I'm about to not make any sense." She began to get frustrated with herself.
"I get it! No worries." Ollie continued to rub her back. "Just take your time. It's no rush." He laughed. "And you're not obligated to tell me, so if you can't, it's okay."
"No I wanna explain." She insisted. A subtle smile at her lips as she felt more trusting with him as the hour went by.
"Alright." He nodded. "Whatever you want."
"I want my parents to meet you eventually, and I guess I feel like it would be best if they met you in person..." Devyn confessed. "And the issue there is that my parents are 5,000 kilometers away."
"And I'm sure they'd love you, but out of respect, I feel like you meeting them is very important if you want me to go to Melbourne..." She paused.
"If you get what I'm trying to say."
"I totally understand." Ollie was very transparent.
"And I guess I'm just anxious about it because—Well I don't have an explanation. I'm just anxious." Devyn laughed into the palms of her hands. Feeling like she was just word vomiting at this point.
"Well." Ollie clearly had an idea. "Do you think if I went to New York with you the first week of your break before Melbourne... I could meet them?" He questioned as she returned a small raise at her brows in response.
"I—I don't know." She confessed. "Its just that Melbourne is kind of already a month away and I wasn't really prepared for them to meet you this soon..."
"Your feelings are extremely valid." Ollie assured her with a calming tone. "It's okay if you're not ready for that yet and I understand that it's a big step, and there's no rush.. especially since everything is so new."
She nodded, feeling a sense of relief wash over her. "Yeah, but also parts of me wants to go to Melbourne too... so you're gonna have to meet them... you know..."
"Well, I don't mind meeting them.." Ollie admitted. "Do your parents like gifts?" A small tug at the corner of his lips as he asked this question.
"Don't be insane." Devyn nearly scoffed with a small smile in return.
"It was a genuine question..." He laughed nervously.
"Are you serious.." She quirked a brow as Ollie playfully rolled his eyes.
"I'm serious about everything. Especially about me and you." He confessed. "I want to be perfect for you."
"Oh, I'll kill you." She got flustered, proceeding to laugh out loud.
"So... how about it then? I fly to New York?" He smiled. Re-mentioning the question at large.
"I mean I was planning to fly home for spring break." Devyn looked at him. "I already have my ticket."
"Okay so if I bought a ticket, then it would work out?"
"Mmm..." Devyn fell into a brief thought. "Okay. Well.." She briefly snickered. "First off... I need to at least mention you to my family first, because you can't just show up out of no where."
"Right..." He nodded, feeling stupid as he didn't think of that part.
"Second. My parents will not be letting you stay at the house... Well, at least I don't think so." She sighed. "So hotel arrangements have to be booked..."
"No problem."
"And third. This entire scenario makes me want to vomit." Devyn admitted. "I don't have a reasoning but the thought of it all is making me spiral!" She paused.
"Ugh, and I feel like my dad might fan girl over you..." Her statement was a random and sudden thought she had.
"What if you called your family right now?..." Ollie subtly asked as she gave him a side eye. "..At least tell them that I'm visiting or tell them about a boyfriend..."
"Actually..." Devyn fell into a thought. "Maybe—Hm.." Her mind raced as she thought of the potential outcomes. Proceeding to think about everything that could happen.
"I think... that's a good idea?" Her answer was unsure.
"It's either you do think so or you don't.." Ollie snickered as she lightly smacked his chest. "I don't know!" She laughed at his teasing tone.
"I say you just do it." He smirked. Devyn giving him a glare in response.
"Hmm... I'm scared now." She hunched over, bringing her fingers to her mouth as she began to mindlessly bite at her nails.
"What if you started off with your brother?" Ollie suggested. "Gotta start somewhere at least."
"That doesn't sound so bad actually." Devyn glanced up. "Maybe..." She trailed off. Her mind beginning to race with sudden thoughts again.
"Ollie, you have no idea how random it would be for my family to suddenly get a call from me to tell them I'm dating a Formula Two race car driver." She quickly confessed. "Because obviously, do you hear how insane that sounds?"
"Yeah, so might as well rip the bandaid.." Ollie laughed, tuning supportively rubbing her back once again.
"So do you want to meet my parents or—"
"Well in order to get you to attend one of my races... kinda have to..." He sassily replied as she scoffed.
"I mean..." Devyn paused. "I guess you're right."
"Do what you want. I'm just giving you suggestions." Ollie laughed, continuing to mindlessly rub her back.
"Shit." She paused. "Okay... Hand me my phone."
